What Was Your First Anime?

Akira is a masterpiece that still holds up to this day, but that finale with Tetsuo and Kaneda … Still hunts my nightmares.

Ah, I see you’re a man of culture.

Then met a person at school that introduced me to inuyasha. Cowboy bebop… And more

First? Speed Racer.

DBZ and the others that were on Toonami and Adult Swim back in the 90s / early 2000s

Was Pokemon, still like it but I just could not keep up with all the new ones and lost intrest.

I would not say any really “scarred” me.
Dragon Ball is was really got me into Anime though later in life.

Probably Cowboy Bebop, which I watched by chance when I woke up from falling asleep on the couch one night and the TV (which had been tuned to Cartoon Network by siblings) was showing a random Bebop episode was airing on Adult Swim.

There were two instances when I’d seen anime not knowing it was anime prior to that when I was a kid in the 90s, though:

  • Sailor Moon, which happened to be on when I was visiting another kid’s house
  • The Galaxy Express 999 movie, which was airing on SciFi channel, which a TV in a hospital waiting room was tuned to one late night

Although I didn’t know either of those were anime, they looked so strikingly different from the cartoons I was used to that they left a strong impression.

You may have those silver feet. BUT I’VE GOT THESE GOLD FINGERS. HERE I GO, SHINING FINGER!

As much as I would like to say DBZ, it was Speed Racer which I didn’t even know was an Anime as a kid.

My first anime was a bootleg copy of Dragon ball Z on VHS in woodshop. I think it was tree of might of world strongest one of those movies but the first I torrented was Chobits which lets be honest is almost a 180 from DBZ.

Redo of healer isnt that bad if you have no issues with people getting what they deserve

DBZ to Chobits is just about the sharpest turn I can imagine haha. Even Sailor Moon has more in common with DBZ.

Dragon Ball Z, but the first one to really draw me in was One Piece.

Pokemon or DBZ, but they weren’t really “anime” to me, they were just morning cartoons I watched before school.

The first anime I watched with interest in the genre was Death Note.

The first anime that scarred me was Gantz. I don’t know what I expected when I watched it, but it sure as hell wasn’t whatever Gantz was.

The Fantastic Adventures of Unico.

I didn’t even know what anime was, it was just my favorite movie when I was a kid.

I’m looking at Demon Slayer. Have you watched that before, and if so, is it good?

Though it’s not strictly anime, the Dragon Prince is amazing imo. The guy that voices one of the protagonists is the same dude that voiced Sokka. There’s a cameo in the third season that got me hysterical. Apart from that, the story is amazing and it made me ugly cry in some parts.

LOL I haven’t even watched that and I know what that is

I would pay money to see 4kids (if they still existed) tackle attack on titan

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
Dates me a little, but it was the first anime for me, after that I was a big Sailor Moon and Macross fan.
