Fullmetal Alchemist (the first one, not Brotherhood) is the first anime I sought out and streamed.
If I want to be 100% honest as a ~5 years old kid in Québec I also watched Les Mystérieuses Cités d’Or et Sous le Signe des Mousquetaires back on Saturday mornings in the early 90s, but I don’t think they should count. Then I suppose we should also count Pokemon and Digimon 10 years later, and that feels like cheating.
Yeah, same feeling as watching Rebuild of Evangelion after the first
Anyway…
Also what anime scarred you for life? Probably stuff like Elfen Lied or Gantz, I suppose. Gantz more for the squick than anything. Or Shiki. You can’t watch Shiki and not side with the Vampires in the end, imo. It’s gonna cement one’s opinion that humans are bastards something fierce, right quick.
Not really an avid anime fan, but I think in the 1990s/1980s (can’t remember) it was something like Devilman, it was on VHS, and in a Manga section of the video store.
hard to tell… was either pokemon, or cardcaptor sakura. then came digimon, and medabots, monster-rancher, and beyblade… lot of good-ish kids anime back in the day. …then dragonball z- no wait! first anime i ever saw, was sailor moon! hated it, but it was the earliest one i can think of.
My first “anime” (though I didn’t know what anime was at the time) was Robotech, the Americanised version of the Macross anime. I also had Speed Racer, Astro Boy, and Samurai Pizza Cats in that same era. Later I had Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, etc.
The first actual anime that I watched knowing it was an anime was Chobits.
I’ve got 2: Akira & Urotsukidōji: Legend of the Overfiend
Dragon Ball Z, it was huge here in Brazil back in the day and I guess Dragon Ball still holds some merit here because of Super have aired on Cartoon Network.
