Neon Genesis Evangelion of course.
“burp”
New Gigantor, when it first starting airing on SciFi in the want to say early to mid 90s.
Same reply as the other thread:
I… think my first was Higashi no Eden, but it was followed so quickly by Serial Experiments Lain, Gunslinger Girl, and Neon Genesis that I could be mistaken.
Star Blazers
Pokémon and Dragon Ball
Urusei Yatsura.
I doubt you’ve ever heard of it.
It was the first time I’d ever heard spoken Japanese, and I was utterly enthralled more by the language than I was by the animation.
Anime was one of the reasons I now have a Bachelor’s degree in Japanese (and yet I’m a welder by trade. What a world.)
I believe Speed Racer was the first, but it was reruns and I watched it around the same time as Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon, so I’m 100% sure which one was actually first for me.
No anime has ever scarred me (or any media at all for that matter), though there have definitely been some that I could understand people being scarred by.
Bondrewd is an amazing character and a truly great guy. I think anyone who disagrees is probably not thinking critically about his character/the show as a whole.
He is actively trying to cure the children and return them to their human forms and minds. And it’s not like they were merely tools for him or something, he knows all of them by name and knows their hopes and dreams. He actually cares about them. Additionally, he never forced any of them into his “service”. He offered them an opportunity to help with his research on the 5th layer of the abyss (which is known to be deadly and near impossible to return from) and took care of them during that time while giving them a much better life than they had on the surface.
Even if you still can’t accept what happened to the kids after knowing all that, he only started using the kids after finding out that he couldn’t use his raider group because the abyss didn’t consider them to be human. And that was after he used himself to get his white whistle. The children were a last resort when he didn’t have any other options and he did everything he could to take care of them before their descent and cure them after.
I feel that Demon Slayer is overrated. That said, it was still really good and I’m looking forward to the movie and hopefully a second season. My only real gripe with it is that the main characters “unique ability” is odd and feels forced.
Pretty sure it was between 1970’s/1980’s Starblazers and Speed Racer. For some reason I remember Starblazers more so then Speed Racer first. …hic!
Speed Racer
My very first was Digimon.
Can’t remember exactly but it probably would be been something like Pokemon, Dragon Ball, Cardcaptor Sakura or Sailor Moon.
This was long before I even knew what anime was, they were just cartoons back then.
I can’t say which was first but I encountered Akira, Vampire Hunter D, Ghost in the shell, and Fist of the North Star all around the same time.
As for others, I have an odd fondness for Read or Die, probably because I have a tendency to go on reading binges so I can relate.
I completely forgot about this one … and I also forgot when I first saw it. Probably mid-to-late ‘70s.
I think my first anime was dragonball in like the late 80s. After that i watched pokemon with my siblings on the regular.
Im not a huge television watcher though. I prefer reading so the manga versions of stories appealed to me more. Let’s not mention that i usually get the neat new stories before everyone else. It was fun messing with people when you know the overall story line.
Outside of this if you wanna talk my favorite story that has an anime it would probably be a tie between Elfen Leid and amusingly enough Chobits. They held my attention and the character interactions felt meaningful to me.
It was either Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, The Guyver, Ninja Scroll or Genocyber. I really couldn’t tell you precisely which I saw first cause that was, like, 24 years or so ago.
Yeah i did know, but it wasnt the same.
The first one I remember watching was Vampire Hunter D.
Vampire Hunter D - a boyfriend owned it.
The first series I watched was Sailor Moon.
I want to say Rhonin Warriors, Dragon Ball but the one that heavily got me into anime was: Fruits Basket.
