What Was Your First Anime?

Ninja Scroll in like… '95? When you’re used to NA cartoons, this was mind blowing.

Card Captor Sakura.

I was like 8, and I mainly watched it because it stared pretty anime girls.

My exposure was from the '80s, so Voltron, original Dragonball, etc.

One bad apple like Bocu No Picu vs hundreds of amazing and excellent titles and classics…

Its like saying to ban all movies because Sharknado is horrible.

Sadly yes, Australia also has state run media and wants Google/Facebook to pay money to the state since their services take away revenue from the State Run Media, Google and Facebook responded by not providing service to Australia.

Australia’s censorship is huge and widespread. It is an opressive nation.

It’s not a main character unique ability, but the fighting style they are trained in. The main character knows the same style as several others, and the first slayer he met later shows him up in the same style in one of the later arcs.

Initial D. Street car racing anime.

Boogiepop Phantom

I’ve heard of Anime being adapted into Western Live Action Movies yet… We really need Anime adapted into outright Cartoons with the original’s Art Style!

Obviously the author of Sailor Moon clamps down on all Adaptions of her work so that Anime is out of the Question yet what about other Anime?

Inuyasha, Bleach, Naruto, Lyrical Nanoha, Pretty Cure, A Certain Magical Index, etc.

Kimba the White Lion and Speed Racer. I’m old. But my first modern Anime was Full Metal Alchemy Brotherhood. After that was Death Note and Attack on Titan. Those three set the bar so high, I haven’t been as satisfied since with any of the others I’ve watched.

Starblazers!

Once upon a time, long long ago I was young.
It was then that I saw my first cartoons from Japan.
Tobor the 8MAN. (8th Man 1965)

You and I are clearly contemporaries as this is the same for me!

Science Ninja Team Gatchaman or G-force in Latin america, like you us know in USA, BATTLE OF THE PLANETS…

Along with Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds, or in my knowing D’artacan, I was the first anime to meet at 3 years old.

I wonder if my first anime was actually Sailor Moon. I don’t really remember.
But the first anime series for most brazilians - and one of the most loved of all time - was Saint Seiya.
It is really a shame that USA couldn’t get a version of that anime that wasn’t butchered by horrible translation and censorship.

Would have been something like Astro Boy, Marine Boy or G-Force back in the early 80’s

I’m not really into Anime, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night!

…but on the serious side, I did watch Speed Racer when I was a kid and it was one of the very first anime cartoons to come to America.

…yeah, I’m old, but not boring.

:dancer:

Speed Racer and Voltron back in the 80s here. I had a best friend who was a first generation American, his family being from Japan. We’d hang out after school or on the weekend and play Nintendo, watch anime and also Ultra Man.

It started a life long love for me. Cowboy Beebop will always be my favorite though, even if it’s not my first. And Hiroshi, if you’re out there buddy, thanks for the fun memories and cultural lessons growing up.

dbz on cartoon network

I guess Pokemon/Digimon/DBZ but I don’t really count them. I consider Yu Yu Hakusho to be my true first.
