What the forums need is a thread auto-lock after certain time of inactivity

Which is almost never.

Auto-locking a thread doesn’t remove it from the forums, it just doesn’t allow for any more comments.

Yes and I think that would not be a good idea.

here is another very useful thread… i think that it would be great for someone to be able to help the OP, even if it takes a couple years to figure out.

I think that was the original point though. Posting on those old threads resulted in a forum vacation. They were like land mines.

the original point of this thread is that no threads, under any circumstance, should ever be allowed to be revived after 30 days.

i am taking the time here to post my opinion on the matter, which is what i am allowed to do, which is why i am doing it.

i believe that auto-locking threads is not healthy for the wow forums as a whole and it should never be implemented.

thank you for your time, though. i did enjoy our discussion on the topic, friend.

have a lovely day

Because of this…

Either change the rule that necroing is not bannable or lock the threads so that people coming here with honest questions aren’t getting a ban because of flag happy people.

change the rule obviously is the best choice.

i’m not sure why OP is against reviving old threads and breathing new life into them in order to help new players and old players alike

Well, because what was accurate and relevant 5 years ago when the thread was created is no longer accurate or relevant now, two Expansions later. Better that the old thread and its outdated info be locked in favor of creating a new thread with up-to-date info.

but did you try to put a ticket in asking about a 4year old issue?

you have no proof of this, correct, though, friend?

yes, there are still things in the game now that were in the game 5 years ago…

take for example, the nighthold raid. that was in the game more than 5 years ago and it is still in the game now.

let’s have an example from nighthold, shall we? so someone wants to get the red infernal mount and the green infernal mount from nighthold.

they might ask what is the best method for farming both mounts?

they could have asked this question 5 years ago…and no one knew the answer, until today, i know the answer and then i could post the answer in their thread…then the OP would get a notification that someone finally found an answer for them and VOILA, the OP now knows how to farm both mounts at once.

i understand that you made a mistake but that’s completely alright, friend… sometimes people just make mistakes because they don’t know the correct answer… but the beauty of making mistakes is that you opened yourself up to my intelligence, which allowed you to breath in my knowledge and learn the correct answers.

we have come together in order to better understand the situation at hand… and that, my friend, is a beautiful occurrence.

i want to thank you so very much for giving me the opportunity to demonstrate the correct answer for these forums.

i hope you have a lovely and wonderful day, friend

wow look at that… someone found an issue in the forum threads from over four years ago and kindly notified the OP that there was a ticket in for that issue.

the OP must have been so happy to know the answer finally!

FFS, Khrog, how did you get off my ignore list? Back you go!

But… but… think of the necromancers!

/wilderness man nod

Not this time, nor the 4-5 times it also happened earlier today either. They should lock posts after a set amount of time, and make them read only.

Your 1 month necro just to make a little quip is testament to what I’m referring to.

After a set time of non-activity.

That means that the moment in time has passed, and the community has moved on. Start a new conversation if you’re interested in the topic. It will have more up to date information that is actually relevant at the time of posting.

You know what you’re doing…

why is bumping old threads such a bad thing? nothing wrong with rekindling a discussion imo

I find posts like these, amusing.

People paradoxically dislike when a new thread is created about a subject when a similar one already exists. All the while, hating when a thread gets necro’d. (Bumped)

I don’t hate it, but so far today I’ve seen a number of threads risen to the surface that were 3-4 years old.

They leave a reply to someone long gone while thinking that they are making a point that has long past relevancy, or that by doing the act they are funny in some way. Trolls are tiresome, especially at this low of an effort level.

Doesn’t seem necessary. If you don’t want to read an old thread, don’t click on it.
