What the forums need is a thread auto-lock after certain time of inactivity

This is an understatement lol.

:cookie:

Who cares about a necro thread? Consider it a time capsule to laugh about and move on.

Wait so you’re up in arms about an anti battle tag thread being necroed. I’ll only agree if you think that argument should die entirely from being mentioned again. It’s spam and I still see people trying to sneak posts about it. Move on.

This reminds me of that 5 year old guild permission thread that has been spam bumped by mostly the same person for 5 years. 5,300 responses, and 1,905 (36%) are made by the same 4 people. 1,180 (22%) are made by the same person. Most of the comments are just spam bumps.

I think I sent some offensive messages over aol instant messenger back in the 90s… you guys might want to necro that and ban me for it

This has nothing to do with any of the BTags threads. The fact that Blizzard has a rule where bumping any thread, but yet, the forum software supports an auto-lock feature is beyond me, especially when a lot of threads do get bumped when they have been dead for a long time.

This.

While I don’t see much of an issue with posting in old threads (especially if the topic is relevant), why make it a rule not to when it could easily be prevented?

This feature is needed desperately. A lot of threads from 5 years ago are resurfacing, and a lot of them are just being bumped to stir up drama again.

I genuinely don’t see the problem with older threads being posted in again. It breathes new life into an old topic and can really help new players who may be asking the same questions that others have asked five years ago.

I think that we should continue to allow old threads to be brought back to life so that new players may learn from the experience of the older players.

It’s a wonderful thing that happens when multiple people collaborate on a topic.

Someone five years ago may not have the knowledge we currently do today and we can use that knowledge to help those people from the past.

Imagine how happy a creator of a thread from five years ago would be if they logged into the forums to finally see the answer they have been searching for over the past multiplicity of years.

We should not stifle the creation that arises when people from the present collaborate on issues of the past.

I would like to kindly thank everyone who read my post and hope you all have a wonderful day

Let’s keep the old threads open so the collaboration may continue.

When the threads being bumped are threads of old arguments… Yeah, that is not bringing experience to new players.

And that is what the forums are most of the time. Just people arguing back and forth over nothing, or just people trolling and sockpuppeting on the forums.

this will kill that rfc thread that’s from like 2012, can’t have that

Just because you don’t find the threads useful doesn’t mean that no one will.

I don’t think it’s fair to deny the authors of a five year old thread the opportunity to learn the answer to a question they asked many moons ago.

On that same note, I believe it is unfair to deny a new player the opportunity to learn from the wisdom of old threads when they begin their journey to Azeroth.

I think keeping old threads alive benefits everyone on the forums and it would be a mistake to close them.

Thank you to everyone who read my post, I hope you enjoyed it and perhaps maybe even learned something new. Have a wonderful day to everyone

Look at the forums, at all the recently bumped threads. Tell me that they are teaching people about the game. Most things here on the forums tend to just be back-and-forth arguments or trolling threads at this point.

These forums are teaching people about the game and I can tell you, first-hand, that even i, as a veteran player, have learned alot from those threads.

I don’t think it is a good idea to remove those threads from the forums, they are wonderful and will definitely help others in the same way that they helped me.

I think helping new players is a good thing. Perhaps if you spent more time trying to help new player in the same way that this person is helping new players by breathing new life into old threads, then the forums would be a better place and you wouldn’t have to to say

I wish you didn’t have this view of the forums. The forums here are wonderful and everyone has such a lovely time when they visit this beautiful place.

Thank you for your time, friend

That got manually closed a few months ago.

Where? Nothing here teaching anyone about the game. In fact, most of the stuff in the forums is either people trolling, or people arguing with each other. What are you saying? The game is about Arguing and Trolling on the internet?

This might be khorg, trying a new tactic of brown-nose concern trolling.

Either that or the gap between their presented intelligence and actual intelligence is smaller than I think.

It is Khrog.

Just look at all of the beautiful knowledge on the small bit of forum threads that you linked. Imagine how much more knowledge is waiting for new players in threads that didn’t fit into that.

I, for one, am amazingly happy that you took the time to post this screenshot so that I could take the time required to help you see the correct answer.

Now you did make a mistake and discussed the incorrect answer but that’s completely ok, friend. When people make mistakes like you did, you give yourself the wondrous opportunity to learn from your errors. You opened yourself up to the correct answer and have become a better person for having done so. And that is truly great!

I hope you have a lovely and wonderful day

Same. Sometimes I’ll search forums for something i want to know and find a thread of the same topic, still not resolved and still perfectly relevant. I once replied to one of these that i didn’t notice was 6 months old, and the forum ‘police’ reported me for spam, because they said i wasn’t allowed to necro. Of course none of them addreased the topic. Instead, there were 4 or so spam posts saying i broke the rules for necro. I actually had a day of silence and no access to forums for a day. Not a big deal, but am definitely not missing previous forum dwellers with 30,000+ posts, but who rarely added anything of value other than regurgitating policy.
