What the forums need is a thread auto-lock after certain time of inactivity

non-issue. if anyones concerned of the sudden uptick of necro threads its bc the recent forum update is acting up again. notice you suddenly get a like or post that was like 2-4 years ago lately that wasnt recent it just says it was. on other occasions its just people googling something they need help on or whatever and are not paying attention to the date. just…dont click or reply to it? like every necro thread some captain obvious cries it and no one cares.

stop making a mountain of a molehill about every function of these forums, jesus christ lol

Or, now hear me out, they could simply lock threads after a time with no activity like many other sub forums already do here. The tech is being used today, so not much is in the way of implementing it here too.

If people want to discuss a topic that isn’t on the board at the time they can click the big blue start a new topic button. If others are so inclined, they can respond, and conversation of current content can be discussed.

People are dragging up the past because they think that they are cute or funny in some twisted way.

Because the threads come up in searches, and are sometimes offered at the bottom of the page, which suggests you might want to participate in them.

I think 1 year would be a good cutoff time period. And perhaps there should be a “reason to report” added that is “thread out of date”, for threads where the problem that resulted in the topic for discussion has been changed and no longer exists.

Yes. There is. If people are discussing something that has already been changed, in fact was changed not long after the original thread that was full of discussion based on a topic that no longer exists, you are supporting the spread of misinformation and drama by insisting on keeping the ability to spread that misinformation.

Fact: Lots of people do miss the original posting date of a thread. Also a fact: Lots of people are inspired by the topic of some old thread and want to add their own complaint to it, which is barely related to the original topic, rather than start a new thread.

I don’t know why you’re so dedicated to the promulgation of misinformation and continuation of irrelevant threads. Is it that you want people to see the posters who used to be GD regulars and have warm, fuzzy feelings about at least something in the game?

If people are complaining about something that no longer exists, a year or two later, people who aren’t aware the problem was fixed shortly can start raising outrage over it.

It shouldn’t be up to you to decide that the forums should be full of poutrage over literally nothing. And this happens often.

Yeah the could, but why bother? Say someone was having a conversation then a while later they learn something new that may add to that conversation?

As for people puting in trash talk notes, they will just move to the notes just before what ever deadline they implement.

Look in the mirror, sweetheart. People like you who want to facilitate the spread of misinformation should play no role in moderation, even if you think you are a volunteer Blizzard employee who has the right to wreak havoc to make yourself feel edgier.

Speak for yourself. Why are you so obsessed with this issue when you could have muted the thread, instead of blanketing it with copy-paste responses?

Perhaps it is you who have been necroing dozens of threads every day in order to vandalize the forums.

“This has already been discussed, use search and comment on that thread instead of making another one.”

or

“Don’t bump old posts.”

And if a necro’d thread ends up getting a lot of traffic and new posts…

Maybe it should have been necro’d? Maybe it’s still relevant?
