Pretty much what the title says. Starting an alt and decided on Ret. Just wondering what makes it go from currently being bad to a higher tier spec come phase 3&4?
Well, P4 is easy: T10 2 set bonus.
As for ToGC, iirc I think that’s when we finally replace the Greatness trinket, but I could be wrong. Otherwise, I don’t think we scale as well from P2 → P3.
Happy middle.
Ret gets better scaling via Tier sets. Crit scaling increases significantly with T9 and Haste scaling because god tier with 2pc t10.
Aren’t rets doing good anyway because of the changes they made?
Or did they walk those changes back?..I try not to follow the patch notes. They stress me out.
They’re doing much better but still lowerish middle depending on gear.
The buff was a good support bump but the tier set bonuses coming up are going to be a larger boost IMO
Changes just made ret competitive with the bottom of the meters instead of well behind everyone.
Yeah we don’t replace dmcg
Libram is huge we’ve been using PVP librams the entire game.
In phase 3 the effects are a bit smaller, but it’s mainly a set bonus that slightly improves our stat scaling and a new big str boost trinket.
In phase 4, it’s largely our divine storm set bonus for better scaling, tiny abomination in a jar trinket potentially being absolutely insane for ret, and Shadowmourne all working together.
That stuff is just all locked behind late game items, rather than baked into the class.
I remember replacing Greatness for Tiny Abom and Death’s Verdict back in the day. Am I mistaken, or are you saying we just don’t replace until P4?
Just replying to this comment
Gotcha, then P4 it is
I’m thinking of swapping servers to benediction leaving horde and leveling a ret pally (to be my new main) what’s the chances of me finding a raiding guild and such?
I hope I don’t cripple my self by leveling one and can’t find a solid group.
This is the 2pc bonus:
Your Seals and Judgements deal 10% additional damage.
Is that all it is?
nothing it’s all bs
rets got a buff and they’re still the worst dps. Bad scaling
Everything in ICC is undead, and their set bonus is very good.
No, that is the 4pc. 2pc gives a 40% chance for melee to reset the cooldown on Divine Storm.
Oh well. Hybrid class. Someone’s got to be in their position
Yeah, as long as we aren’t so far below everyone that raids stop bringing one, we good. Ret buff definitely helped in that regard, which was the goal.
Its the accumulation of a lot of things actually.
Epic gems release in phase 3 and while all specs benefit, Retribution ends up getting the largest dps gain from upgrading to epic gems (Warriors, DKs and Affliction warlocks also have great gains)
In phase 3 Retribution finally gets a good set bonus with 2-piece T9. (The 4-piece is pretty insignificant though)
Also in phase 3 Death’s Choice/Verdict becomes available and retribution enjoys the largest dps gain upgrading from phase 2 BiS (DKs are close behind too on the item)
There is finally a really good libram from badges so we don’t have to hit 1800 rating in arena to have a useful libram
In Phase 4
Both the 2 piece and 4 piece T10 set bonuses are amazing
ICC is all undead enemies which gives us a 1% damage boost from our minor libram of tracking undead and a 3% damage boost from the crusade talent
The badge Libram is crazy good: Crusader strike gives 44 strength every cast stacked up to 5 times for a maximum of 220 strength
The rep ring from ICC grants a nice attack power proc which provides a nice boost
Shadowmourne is released if you are fortunate enough to acquire it
Additionally the trinket Tiny Abomination in a Jar becomes available, in original wrath this provided a substantial dps boost for ret paladins. It’s unclear whether or not it will work the same in wrath classic. Feel free to follow along here: Tiny Abomination in a Jar Interaction With Retribution Paladins
