Its new, it brings new lore, its story driven, the combat is almost similar (If they had WOW macro system it would be better) and the list goes on and on.
The only thing that sucks about it is the lack of race originality, they all look human with minor differences and their macro system is garbage.
Other then that its not a bad game.

FF isn’t for me. I’ve tried it and can’t get into it. I will prob continue playing GW2 and Valheim.
Thank you for the thoughtful reply, and I will keep a lot of this in mind. I just unlocked the ability to learn other classes (I guess professions are classes?). I figured I would take the game’s advice and just stick with my first class until it has been ‘mastered’. To be honest, all the options are rather intimidating. haha

The fact that sub numbers are so low they don’t release them anymore is my source. If they had 10 million subs they’d flaunt it, but they don’t, because sub numbers are in the trash because they can’t retain addicted players, much less new ones.

I think it’s the relationship between Square Enix and the players. FFXIV had a pretty bad launch and the Devs actually took the criticism and put in tons of work to get the game in a good place. If there’s something in the game that the community expresses is an issue, it gets dealt with. Opposed to here where the Devs just double down on all the issues and ignore feedback given all the way back to the Alpha.
I think also newer MMOs in general have learned that they don’t want WoW with an entirely new skin. It does its own thing
