i no like arthus turned to dust
And even more anger. Arthas is one of the few actual heroes of the story with a lot of the heroes the actual villains.
See, the whole “Oh no we found out we were wrong the whole time” falls under the “cuz I said so” excuse, unless you can really flesh out the How and the Why the view has changed. to simply state, well we were suddenly wrong because reasons, is lazy at best. also the “unreliable narrator” trope is done to death and not done very well by incompetent writers, which is why I hate they did that to the lore books.
What was supposed to happen? A Return of the Jedi happy ending with him smiling as a ghost?
Sometimes, there is no happy ending. Not everyone gets redeemed.
Based on what? ashes
Anima dust
I agree the ‘rule of cool’ has always been a thing but I feel like Metzen was at least competent in balancing between the ‘rule of cool’ and the ‘rule of cohesive story telling’. Unfortunately, his predecessors have had no such inclination.
It always does, and the other way around.
Hello, I see your replied to the thread. No, what should have happened was that he never should have been brought into the story again to begin with, haha! Artha’s story had a nice, clean ending in Wrath and that is where he should have stayed!
Thanks for your post and have a great day!
See, I don’t think he was better at it. All the stuff people complain about he was behind, too.
… Arthas has never been a hero, so I don’t get where you got that idea from
This part is partially true, at the very least if one applies it to the “neutral” (as in non-Alliance, non-Horde) heroes/villains of Warcraft-lore
it’s dust and we know it
Except they’re not. He’s creative director of the whole franchise: Hearthstone, Warcraft Rumble, the novels, merchandise, etc. I doubt he’ll have time to micromanage.
I’ve listed lots of details in other threads. Some of the highlights are having Malfurion, a demi-god, nearly killed by a dude with a bow and arrow, Tyrande being given god-like powers that leads to absolutely nothing and makes it pointless to the story (rudimentary rule of writing is Chekhov’s Gun), Sylvanas burning Teldrassil cuz reasons, Arthas being unforgiveable when Sylvanas was worse, the giant sword in Silithus being ignored…the giant sword being there to begin with…I could go on.
The creativity of the people behind it.
You mean in an on going game that is continually evolving they don’t want to be tied down by something that may butt up against something they want to do later and so make a storytelling choice that people who are more concerned about being right about trivia than an ongoing story don’t appreciate?
This I agree with. But so many people wanted him brought back.
Well…be careful what you ask for,you might get it.
I reject your appeal to authority because even the blind fanboys that make all their money pushing out positive Star Wars content for clicks even say that they are failing on key writing aspects.
Let’s agree to disagree. We enjoy it, you don’t. I’m just a casual fan and perhaps things look different from a more professional view on it. I’m entertained with the current shows and that’s enough for me after the total disaster the movies were.

The term hero is a rather Asian drama term, meaning, “main characters” in general.
Hello, I see you replied to the thread. I like the shows, haha! Most of the Feloni shows are passable in writing, and that’s ok! Andor though is something else, that thing is a masterpiece, haha! Of course Dave wasn’t a part of that one!
Thanks for your post and have a great day!

Where does that come from?
I always love people who come in with a question acting like they are being open minded, but get upset when the answer is not what they want it to be.
Danuser isn’t solely responsible for the story, but he is the lead narrative designer. He is responsible whole or in part for the narrative of Shadowlands, which is an abomination. There have been essay-length posts written about why SL was bad from a narrative point of view. So I won’t do that here. But the best he could come up with when the job fell on him was the narrative of SL.

“What is 2+2? And don’t say 4 I want a real answer!”
