Shadowlands was delayed and still released in a rushed state. By the time Legion came out, work was well underway on 7.1. There was already a playable version of SL when 8.3 came out in BFA. I think the delays resulted in them not being able to work as far ahead as they are used to. Combine that with the look that they are trying to not rush dragonflight, you get a content drought.
Look at the facts though. The company you now claims as âblizzardâ will soon be bought out by a company that began by borrowing its code base from pre existent semi closed sources in general, a highly questionable legal debate that blizzard fell prey to by many mmorpgs. so we have a victim of code theft merging with a code thief here imo.
well i just finished my own program using pieces of code i discovered along my way as a victim of the developmentâs teamâs âmalicious code.â
my program is simple: in order to succeed during the next expansion i will do two things
- logout.
- do not re subscribe.
adios!
If it doesnât drop in Q4 this year, it means it will have the longest test cycle of any expansion to date.
SoâŠ. Either way we win?
OP is also greatly underselling everything they are changing, but they are all in-system changes. You can do more work when you donât have to build a new framework every time.
Alright, alright, alrightâŠVex on the field!
But this has never happened before. Why are people expecting this?
I think the obvious answer is that the expansions are just getting smaller. SL is now the standard. I donât think itâs coincidence DF and SL have the same amount of zones and dungeons at release.
It wonât drop Q4 this year.
Time will tell. Personally, I think 10.0âs balance will be a disaster and we wonât see dividends paid out on this talent system until 10.2 / 10.2.5, but time will tell.
The legal department.
How even did you reach that conclusionâŠ
No content patch ever added a new class, new continent with 5 zones, 8 new dungeons, new flight mechanics or got rid of layered borrowed power systemsâŠ
Some major cope in this thread.
4 new zones + copy and paste of a new season of the â3 pillarsâ is not sufficient for an entire expansion. They need to come up with more. Iâve heard that the dragon isles are going to be big at least so hopefully each zone is big and fleshed out.
My hope/cope is that like Legion, weâll get to see some of the stuff they have planned for 10.0.5 that will fix the lack of content with 10.0.
If only they would learn a lesson and once they iron everything out, they leave well enough alone. I donât understand reinventing the classes every expansion. Think about how much time has been spent since Cata redoing classes every two years.
The optimistic side of me is saying: Maybe theyâve finally learned that they absolutely suck at systems and arenât bothering to try anymore.
They built the entire fan-base without any complicated systems. Vanilla, BC, WOTLK, it was all: âKill bad, get loot.â Nothing else. No borrowed power, no mobile game phone tables, no unrewarding pointless gimmicks⊠just core gameplay that was fun.
What are you talking about?
Heroic Dungeons were a system. 10/25 Raid Formats were a system. Badges were a system. Heroic Raids were a system. Arena was/is a system.
People want content contextualized. People rarely if ever play content devoid of any context. Thatâs what systems can do - provide context to make content capital C Contentâą.
âSmall-sized expansionâ sounds about right, the game feels less active than even WoD wasâŠ
And also, Oribos ( ) is the worst-designed âhubâ theyâve made in a while. Even though Legion Dalaran had no auction house, it felt way more lively/active than the âgrey, cosmic, boring airportâ design of Oribos
I canât for the life of me understand how anyone can look at the reveals weâve seen so far and think thereâs a lack of content.
Almost like theyre scaling back the stupid systems and hyper focusing on a few things to make them great. Weird how that works.
I donât understand how you can think there ISNâT a lack of content.
Theyâre completely replacing character progression and crafting. Theyâre adding a new type of movement. New race/class. The biggest landmass in the game. 8 launch dungeons, a raid, and the usually season stuff. Theyâre changing how m+ works season to season. Theyâve also gotten off their âalts have to have friction to force players to solo-characterâ mentality. Not to mention all the skill trees for various things. Crafting skill tree, riding skill tree, etc.
No matter how you play the game, everything is getting better.
They are making fixes to the game that will make the long-term better. We donât need cheap, crappy, temporary systems every expansion

Do I think account-wide reputation, lack of borrowed power currency grinds, retuned crafting, and retuned talent choices are cool? Sure. Blizzard is making some proper steps in the right direction.
None of that is CONTENT though. Content is things you do. âThe usual season stuffâ is the bare minimum we expect from the game, and S1 / 10.0 is literally having less than the bare minimum. And thatâs it. You have less than the bare minimum and nothing else to do. Callings/Emissaries, 4 new M+ dungeons, a raid, and no new PvP content.
How do you see âLess than the sum of the content of patch 9.0â and see that as not a lack of content? 9.0 experience a harsh content drought and it was far, far more feature rich than 10.0.
