what classifies as zone griefing as I can not find the option in the support under report player, long story short we got people camping lowbies, killing quest givers etc for over 8hrs now
this sounds like a “war in warmode” issue… which isn’t something GMs will intervene with
then why has people gotten banned in the past for it then?
People rarely got banned for it and it’s mainly trying to crash the server, not PvPing.
then why did a ex-friend get banned for world pvp in hellfire then? was told for zone disruption,
Well, for one, people had been doing world PvP for a while now, haven’t got banned for it. Heck, there’s events to encourage world PvP. Would be a bad idea to ban for world PvP when there’s events for it in game set by the devs.
It is a bit complicated, Coldpaws, as there is often a misunderstand of what is considered griefing or what is zone disruption and what a lot of folks actually got in trouble for.
Repeatedly killing quest givers, generally isn’t a violation of policy. If the mob can be killed, we generally do not penalize someone for killing it. There are situations in which we may intervene, but they tend to be rare and extremely conditional.
Corpse camping or otherwise participating in PvP, regardless of the level disparity, is still just PvP and we have no policies against it. If someone is flagged for PvP, in War Mode, etc… they are free game.
It should be fairly straight forward, though it can be a bit confusing at times. You’d select the Support in the upper right corner of the site, then Contact Support > World of Warcraft > “I would rather categorize the issue”, > In-game issues > Report Player > Zone Disruption
I can virtually guarantee they weren’t banned for world PvP. They likely were not being 100% truthful with you. Zone disruption is when someone disrupts a zone for an ongoing period of time (usually many days or weeks) and there were no other methods to stop them. Like people avoiding guards or jumpings/exploiting to places where others couldn’t get them.
I’d have to look at the friend’s account, Coldpaws, and I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to share any details with anyone other than them. From experience though, it is rarely as simple as those telling their friends and guildmates make it out to be.
these horde have been camping darkshire for 9+hrs today so far, and its been everyday so far according to general chat
And again, if it’s PVP, there’s a PVP solution. Go retaliate That’s what PVP servers are all about!
so I can go camp a horde town like these folks are and not get into trouble hmmm
Depends on what you consider “trouble”. Will Blizz ban you? Not likely. Will you gain a bunch of horde friends? Nope. Will you incite some entertaining PVP? Likely
get banned, cause everyone is saying something about the tos and it being illegal in general chat atm in duskwood,
Okay, and have they pointed to the part of the EULA (there’s no ToS anymore) where it’s against the rules? I’m betting they haven’t.
Here’s what the Support section can provide:
To clarify some muddling of terminology, there really isn’t much that’s considered “zone griefing.” Camping NPCs and low level players is a core activity that, while it can be widely accepted as scummy, isn’t something a game master will intervene with.
Zone disruption on the other hand, often tends to connect itself with server-related issues like bogging down the entire zone and lagging everyone out for weeks on end.
so let me get this right I can go and camp a entire zone with a bunch of other alliance for HOURS on end, stopping all game play for the opposite faction, which would be classed as conduct with intent to disrupt gameplay of others would it not?
Look, Coldpaws, we’re not going to sanction the behavior if you wish to engage in it nor are we going to nitpick the rules on what may or may not constitute disruption.
If you feel the behavior you are experiencing violates policy, submit a ticket using the link I provided. A Game Master will look into it and take any actions appropriate in accordance with our policies. It’s just as simple as that.
