That would at least suggest something concrete.
But classic is also very new, and it has been anticipated for quite some time, as others have noted. So it might be more meaningful to compare the two after some time has past.
Don’t get me wrong, the retail version of the game has no doubt made some mistakes over time, but that’s inevitable over a 15-year period.
Nothing is just perpetually the most popular game, or the most popular thing in a particular genre of entertainment, on a consistent basis year after year.
No King rules forever.
It’s WoW’s longevity that is unusual. And really classic’s success mostly confirms, I think, that it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
AGREED…you start out with amazing talent like Chilton and Kaplan…you start out listening to Jimi Hendrix then all of a sudden you are told,
"Jimi will have all of his music written by Brittany Spears…he will still proform it but Brittany will write all the music and lyrics
Youre close. The article says total revenue was lower. This is dur to the 60 dollar price of the expansion.
99% of them are welcoming and helpful, the “complaint” you made was probably something dumb like asking for lfr and wondering why everyone got mad at you
I am aware of the expansion vs total revenue. But it wasn’t me who said it:

One thing to point out is that Blizzard is great at spinning numbers, and we have no idea what the subscriptions have been for some time. When they say the jump in subscribers is the biggest it’s ever been, they are talking percentages – as has been noted.
So, if they had 1 million subscribers in July (just as an example), 223% brings that up to 2.23 million in August. This doesn’t mean the actual number count growth is the highest it’s ever been. The jump from 7.5 to 10 million during WoD, in contrast, is approximately 130%.
It’s all about the context. 2.5 million in this case would be more than 1.23 million, but the percentage growth is higher for the latter.

I got level 24 on classic about 2 months ago and never played it again. I think I played too much Classic when it was the current game back in 2004. So no more interest.
Thats great, wouldnt the more relevant thing to base growth off of be the blizzard Q3 results? Its more current.
Well said.
I don’t really play the game for community, I play it for competition so it makes sense why I prefer retail.
That being said, I do end up making new connections through the activities that I partake in because retail is so segmented.
No, because that doesn’t show the complete picture. Nor do we know what the numbers were for any recent quarter. The only numbers they provide anymore are the MAU’s, but that includes all Blizzard games in one. All they said was the growth in subscriptions is the highest it’s been, but only in terms of percentages. And as I showed in the previous reply, that doesn’t mean much if it jumped from a low number.
I think it shows that the reception for BFA was pretty bad though, if it jumped that high.
Wow, VIDEOS!?!!! Talking about GROWTH!?!?
Also, for future reference, so you understand what “likewise” means, nobody has argued that videos of people saying things don’t exist (lol you’re so dense). So after you’re asked to provide numbers for the 14th time and still can’t, “likewise” doesn’t work here.
Also, the world has already established and agreed on the fact that classic created sub growth, not sure why you’re trying to prove a point that nobody has argued with. It’s the AMOUNT (typically quantified in NUMBERS, those things that one uses in things like math, phone numbers, street addresses, etc.)
And nobody ever said BfA had greater growth than Classic. I know you struggle with reading comprehension but maybe try and slow down and go word by word to see if that helps?
Let’s recap:
You: Classic set record sub numbers!
Me: oh yeah, by how much? What numbers show that it’s a record for sub growth?
You: I SAW A VIDEO WHERE SOMEBODY SAID IT WAS A RECORD!
Me: So, what numbers show the record?
You: VIDEOS MAN, OF PEOPLE SAYING RECORDS!
WORLD: lol this guy rides front seat on the short bus.
^ See this part is why everyone thinks you’re stupid. To think that it’s just “someone” is pure ignorance on your part.

Coming from the guy that got so offended he was called out for being unemployed and playing Classic all day that’s pretty rich.
But you go on thinking that you’re illiteracy isn’t a major challenge in these “discussions.”
They didnt show a percentage in the Q3 results. All they said was it broke all records of growth in franchise history, and they continue to see that growth into Q4. They didnt list a percentage in that.
So me pointing out that you had to resort to something outside of anything related to Blizzard or World of Warcraft as a sad attempt to add to your argument is me being offended? If yes then I’d have to say that just like your name your level of creativity, when it comes to trolling, is equivalent to a high schooler playing CoD resorting to “umadbro?”
I’m terribly sorry that you’re so stupid that you cannot understand not only what’s being said but who’s saying it in the videos that have been provided. But trying to take it out on my IRL makes you look weak, uneducated and overall childish.
Got it, so let’s continue the recap:
Me: why are you so mad that I’m asking for facts?
You: because I consider opinions as facts, DUH!
Me: why are you so mad that i pointed out that Classic is a tedious old game that mostly unemployed losers play and defend so fervently?
You: BECAUSE IM AN UNEMPLOYED LOSER THAT HATES HIMSELF
You just keep digging the hole deeper, lol.
Yes they did. Scroll up to #60 on this page, or look at the Newsweek URL I posted. There was an increase of 223%
Heck, just do a search for wow increase 223% on Google. You’ll find wowhead, MMO Champion and others have posted the same thing.
You’re denying facts stated by people who work for and at Blizzard. Everything else you stated is irrelevant.
Im well aware of that article. Its dated September 24th. The Blizzard Q3 report is from November 3rd. Its new data, thats what im trying to explain. Its more relevant and indicative of the state of the game.
