Honestly, I was looking forward to classic but after two weeks of running the same content I ran 15 years ago and knowing that I would continue to run content I had defeated years ago I lost interest. Without a doubt retail has its issues but classic just didn’t hold my interesting at all.
Maybe because you know nobody?
Post on Classic character.
It’s not a stronger draw, it never was.
new experience always generates a bunch of hype and increase interest, look at twitch.
people were saying all the classic streams and the million or so people watching, within in the first week were a metric of how great classic/interest was… it went from 1 million down to 40k in that time and those full time WOW streamers were mostly back playing BFA
Also didn’t help when there was an exp bug and players were making raid groups to power level in dungeons without getting exp severely diminished as intended.
This is actually a very apt metapohor. Books have depth and are detailed even if laboursome to read all at once. Movies are highly polished and cookie cutter for time invested, but often they are poorly made, poorly written and cut half of the stuff that’s in the original book.
It’s exactly like classic and retail, brava sir, brava
That’s what Blizzard themselves have directly said in their quarterly earnings report. It’s a tad tedious to listen to but it’s all there:
What also bothers me about classic are the fanboys who feel the need to always insult anyone not playing classic just goes to show how “great” their community really is which it isn’t just the same as BFA.

Good try, but I said nothing about books so your gross generalizations about books and movies is off base.
Let me make it a little more clear for you.
Going to the library is boring. Playing classic is boring. Going to the movies is fun. Playing retail is fun.
Bit compared to BFA, classic is not nearly as fun. Seriously. Classic is mind numbing, slow, tedious, annoying, rude, etc.
BFA is much more fun and does require preformed groups now since non-mythic dungeons and LFR give such crappy gear, even worse than easy instant world quests.
That doesn’t account for the millions that magically appeared out of thin air. You got a better theory?
Addiction perhaps lol. And did they post the sub numbers showing millions came back, or is that like politicians doing the he said, she said type of thing lol.
What bothers me more is how i can’t collect mogs/mounts from classic to use them in retail.
If that was the case the prices of transmog BoEs would skyrocket completely changing the classic economy.
So if i’m serious about ‘experiencing vanilla’, it is ok - but if i just want to collect mogs and mounts, it becomes ‘get out of my classic’.
Quite a selfish attitude to only care about your game while trying to ruin someone else’s.
Ian and crew are great at engineering and schedules and spreadsheets and numbers.
They are horrible at fun.
Retail WoW’s biggest problem in a nutshell.
It may sound silly, but what killed Wildstar for me was the art direction. It made it very hard for me to get into the game. There’s cartoony like WoW that’s both timeless and immersive, then there’s like… Saturday Morning Cartoony that was just awkward and jarring. Wildstar was very much the latter for me.
Classic is basically like a Saturday morning cartoon villain.
The same people who didn’t bother socializing when they had a choice in retail suddenly behave like Classic is Heaven personified when the game punishes them for not socializing.
It’s like boasting about how popular World PvP is on PvP servers and then suddenly wondering why everyone are turning off PvP when they were given a choice in Warmode.
Well, you are a gnome, does running really work for you at all?
:3
Without getting into specifics, my hope is really just that Ian and crew take a hard look at the current game and try to focus more on fun.

If you can’t be specific, your sentiment is meaningless.
Like if I said, "Without getting into specifics, I hope they make things nicer "
If that was the case the prices of transmog BoEs would skyrocket completely changing the classic economy.
Yes, it might. Then again, i did not say this ‘must’ be fixed, correct?
Quite a selfish attitude to only care about your game while trying to ruin someone else’s.
I care about my game, but i don’t try to ruin someone else.
Then again, pretty much every suggestion or even changes done to the game end up ‘ruin’ someone else’s game.
At least i was being honest by saying what i wanted.
The classic community is more toxic than retail in their own way. Lots of shady stuff going on, I believe, they believe, they are entitled because they think they work harder and everyone else isn’t punching keys on a keyboard the same as they are.
I play both, have a couple 60’s and one of every class 20-30+ on classic.
It’s tedious, it brings out a different player, mob tagging and greed are rampant.
I don’t believe people when they say they love seeing people in the world( IN CLASSIC ONLY) i think its opposite, from what I see in chat you hate it and complain in guild that someone is tagging your mobs, or just stole your herb cuz you saw it first.
It’s challenging but boring and a straight line, there are no options, its all been worked out and has a cookie cutter guide on any google search or youtube video. The only thing nice about classic are the FULL guilds and the talent trees let you play hybrids, THATS IT. The amount of options you have on retail are endless!
15 minute graveyard runs, grinding mobs for hours for a quest item and all the time sink is horrible and if they think players want this on retail they couldn’t be more wrong. You have a % of people playing classic who never left, they went to private servers and haven’t left vanilla, they have a different mindset. We can’t base the success of classic off a couple months of people playing and then try changing retail to act like classic. Players might have stayed longer then expected but lets wait till phase 6 and when everything has been released and your end game is just that the END, just like every expansion. Then all your left with is pvp and farming.
Classic players hate retail players its an on going joke LFG and pandas are trigger words. Leave these two worlds separate as they belong.
I cant speak for retail because EVERY GUILD i’m in is dead ( My server is DEAD), but on classic all i see all day long in chat in several guilds is " I HATE PEOPLE" they are talking about real world and in game. I think players only enjoy other people when it benefits them, other then that they would walk over your dead body to get to whatever shiny object lights up there endorphins.
Classic is a different world where you only group when you have to, because YOU need help or YOU need something and as long as YOU both get what YOU want then grouping is ok.
I understand this isn’t every person playing classic, but ITS a lot of players.
This feeds that toxic problem on classic, where you not welcome in a group because your going to roll on something. Also in in raids where guilds have there clicks and buddies who come first and defend favoritism with labels/roles.
Class identity and server merges are the only thing i could even imagine they would bring from classic to retail. Gives us back talent trees and let us decide if we want to play a hybrid class. Everything else can stay back in classic.
One other thing they could bring from classic, is duo objectives.
In classic half the guilds are husband and wives playing together.
I may be wrong and only seeing this one sided, and somewhat anti social, but im just stating what I see and how i see people act in classic.
Fun is relative.
What a lot of people consider to be “fun” in classic I consider to be worse than chores.
