We're porting Retail add-ons to Beta, Come Get 'Em

i could really benefit from healbot. i have rheumatoid arthritis in my mouse hand so bad the fingers are nearly entirely frozen stiff. i can push the mouse buttons but its hard to move it all over the screen. if i can have an isolated area on the screen for the name plates with mouse button spell casts from each name plate, that really helps. its like the only add-on i have kept up to date.

I’m just wondering how Curse and WoWInterface are going to add support for classic, with different TOCs, branches and all.

Someone sounds salty they didn’t get beta.

Wouldn’t mind seeing a few.

Flash Taskbar
KUI Nameplates
Decursive

A few others have already been mentioned. I’m torn between keeping it looking like a Classic UI, or having it feel comfortable and matching what I use on retail.

I personally would like the vanilla addons to come back in some fashion, though I imagine those authors are long gone. For example, I almost need PallyPower, and having decursive back with vanilla ties would also be nice. Titanpanel would also be great.

As others have pointed out, redistributing an add-on modified to work with Classic without the original author’s permission could run afoul of the license for the add-on. This was true in Clique’s case, so I took it down.

If the author of Clique says they are cool with it, it can go back up. Or, if they don’t have beta access but want a beta version of Clique available that they made, I have offered to pair program with them via Skype or Discord.

Nope, they work!

Yeah man, read the thread. You’re late to the party with all that.

Thanks i saw the Clique comment later. I downloaded DBM and figured it out, thanks. I cant get Weakauras to work though. getting tons of Lua errors and options wont even launch. so disabled that for now.

Yep. Can’t wait to install dbm and have it play for me. Just activate it and then afk while I make a sandwich and watch a movie. Should have me at 60 before the night ends

Try PM’ing Cladhaire on Wowinterface.com on that. Altough he hasn’t updated Clique in a while he is active in the comments section there.

Thank you for letting me know. I will add him as a contributor to the currently private GitHub repo, or send him a copy of my current revision, or get on a call or something with him so that he can review if he likes. A lot of folks in the Beta love and want his add-on and I’m more than happy to help him get it to them.

Curse has a project page that sometimes has alpha versions too.

the Vuhdo author has a classic version alpha available on his Curse project page, i have used both HB and it and I find Vuhdo smoother honestly.

Curse is already set up for different versions on every page, but i imagine both em and WoWInterface will make a separate section, at least WoWI has done that in the past.

With a little more effort you might have come up with “Someone sounds salty their addons weren’t deemed good enough misappropriate”.

Now I’m feeling the burn.

You realize in classic the api was MUCH stronger than it is now? addons that automatically decursed FOR YOU, addons that automatically executed your optional dps rotation for you, etc.

The reason classic is using 8.0 api instead of 1.12 is because 8.0 is MORE restrictive not less. They literally already nerfed addons from vanilla experience. Yes there are a few things you can do in 8.0 you couldn’t in 1.12 but this pales in comparison to what we could do with 1.12 api. One of big differences now is there is 15 years of knowledge now. the 1.12 api was so brokenly powerful and woefully UNDER used by addons. but if you took a 2019 addon developer and gave them 1.12 api, you’d be top dps on patchwerk, while you were afk in other room the entire fight. You meme that dbm does this. But in 1.12 api you ACTUALLY could do this.

All you purist also have to consider, addons are insignificant in all of this. I can promise you. you can have an entire guild go into raids with 0 addons, vanilla UI, and they aren’t going to find them even remotely difficult to do unless they went in there…too soon (gear still matters). 15 years of knowledge, guides, theory crafting, and just player experience (macroing, keybinds, etc) and better computers (actually good fps, higher resolution, better internet). This is what’s going to change the meta. A couple timers and cute sound alerts like “run away little girl” will not.

People who pretend it’s addons that will change the vanilla experience are ignoring the big experience. Classic is nostalgia, it’s community. What it is not. There will be no mystery, and in all honestly there will be no difficulty (not unless you hate having friends/community and rely on LFG to get stuff done, then yeah classic will be hard for you)…all classic is…is time. lots and lots of time. I’m enjoying the beta, and i’ll enjoy it on live, but my expectations are set properly.

I was being sarcastic

And when curse pops up a page for WoW beta classic and add on creators put their add ons there this will be super relevant. Until then, props to the OP.
