Is any of this actually happening? It appears the answer is “no, not at all”.
I am a firm believer in what I call “The Law of Intended Results”, which states that “The net result is the intended result.” Casuals are more than ever locked out of competitive content by virtue of them making the choices you see as giving them “unique niches”, which penalizes them steeply, while the “casual groups” who would accept them have a high failure rate because they are mostly screw ups like them.
If you look at this from the company’s pov they stand to gain more by actually addressing issues which the majority of the player base wants instead of wasting resources on a tournament which is getting overwhelming negative feedback just to appease a few people who like it.
Most of the time the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I guess not in this case.
For some reason more and more the focus has been on elite players worried about what casuals gain from playing. The game as it stands currently focuses way to much on making meta players and online streamers happy, while forgetting that the casual base (bread and butter of subscriptions) needs its cake too.
While I have less vitriol than a lot towards the esports additions to WoW… I do wish you guys would take a second to recognize that there are some progression-minded players who are not interested in a hyper-competitive, timed environment… and throw them a bone once in a while.
I have to say looking through most of your posts there’s a pattern of you randomly tossing the community into gutters while drumming up praise for the company.
You do realize you’ve just looped back to the beginning right? Blizzard can’t just rub a dollar and “address the issues” right now. They can do nothing and hope to hold out until 9.1 when they can actually address the issues… or they can spend money in the meanwhile on events like this to try to slow down the bleeding. There is no option C where 9.1 releases tomorrow.
When I woke up this morning, seeing a post of this kind was not what I was expecting to see…
Why the hell is this coming so far out of left field? And on the other hand, why was I completely expecting this to eventually happen? Why?
Blizzard Entertainment, you need to let it go: World of Warcraft has failed in the ESports scene every time you’ve tried it. It will not ever succeed in that sort of environment. You’re completely misreading your audience’s interests here. And before you ask: No, this will not appeal to a wider audience, nor will it bring more people to the game. The only people that can possibly care about this are the players. You won’t even appeal to the Koreans or Japanese with this to make the game more popular in those regions.
Just stop, Blizzard. It’s getting pathetic at this point.
You leave the forums high and dry in regards to news and bulletin updates on a constant basis. This should’ve been something left out as well. Instead of this, you should’ve made it clear that you intended to fix your game’s horrible class balancing. There are classes in this game that are underperforming from the top anywhere from 25-40% of dps margins. In conjunction with that knowledge, you honestly thought it was a great idea to do something as stupid as an MDI?
The WoW that I enjoyed for years is dead. My sub runs out soon, and I won’t be back. For those that enjoy the current game, I wish you the best. I only hope we get more innovate MMO’s soon.
