Welcome to The Great Push!

And everyone at work wants to know what’s so funny.:rofl:

How great is it if the specializations are so hideously balanced in M+ that we won’t see a team without a Fire Mage or Balance Druid?

And 5x gnome teams probably won’t win because we can’t be Holy Paladins or VDH. Sorry, I’m not interested.

yeah…that dies off after seeing that the hype was overhyped.

It’s actually pretty sad too, because this could be avoided almost entirely by just dealing with the FOMO rewards; it doesn’t matter if somebody isn’t “good” enough if they feel they can slowly make progress, or eventually progress on something. But, as the e-sports mentality seeps deeper into gaming culture as a whole, exclusivity becomes king for rewards, and people get extremely pissed off if they can’t have a cosmetic to gloat over people.

Which is stupid, because MMORPGs as a genre are not balanced enough to have a “real” competitive scene, let alone grouping issues. Arenas see this at the worst, although MDI is pretty bad as well with spec representation unless somebody’s memeing.
A lot of the drive and motivation for people in these games comes from “collecting cool stuff” and more and more of that is just being locked behind trophy rewards.

I only have resources for PvP on hand right now, but when you have hard to obtain exclusive stuff, people are going to “min-max” the hell out of it to have an easier time getting it, and it leads to stuff like this always because of the limited time factors and the difficulty;

There are massive imbalances in regards to spec representation, and this is happening in M+ as well. Yes, any spec can get KSM, and to an extent, Gladiator, but it is harder, it is discouraging, and so many people don’t have pre-set groups in the modern state of the game due to factors like server transfers costing so much, server deaths, and general disdain towards the game leading to guilds/communities collapsing.

Arenas are the worst of this, and as I linked, were a regret for the original devs because they saw this coming. It wasn’t this bad in the past, but as the game ages and min-maxing becomes demanded by even more casual players for their groups, it just becomes harder and harder to just participate in content. People are being told to “find a group” when the tools to do so are awful, cost additional money (transfers), and the community is… very toxic. Especially in comparison to the competitors.

This is not sustainable.
And this is why people are mad. People play what they want in an RPG for the most part because they like the concepts, or they like the playstyle, but in some aspects of the game, we’re being forced to reroll or fall behind or have a harder time simply because they keep pushing this stuff, and then they’re making rewards harder and harder to get and limited time. Mythic raiding is pretty much the only end game left that isn’t like this anymore, because CE is just CE. It’s exclusively bragging rights, and that’s it.

When the in game structures are healthy for the masses, people love this sort of stuff.
But people are struggling to get groups, people are feeling pressured because of seasonal content, and people are watching their friends circle collapse around them…
and then Blizzard keeps forcing esports while everybody else is struggling.

It’s very out of touch.

Not to mention that the lists you show of classes/spec represented in this content means those who want the new mount may role an alt to get it. And what will they create? Likely one of the top 5-10 since they are obviously more desired. This creates extra competition for these classes and their spots, but there are only so many spots for a dungeon. More players may be left out if they don’t just run M+ content and can’t get their IO score high enough for some. This definitely creates a great push, but not in the direction Blizz wants.

It’s not even just classes at this point, but covenants too. You can’t have a true RPG with these kind of choices then force content that heavily revolves around metas.

I haven’t touched M+ this patch, but in PvP, the amount of times I’ve had people hassle me because I’m Kyrian and not Venthyr, is ridiculous. Kyrian’s viable - especially with the melee cleaves I like to run, it’s just not a 3 button rotation that does a ton of damage and randomly kills people on crits.

My Shadow Priest is also Kyrian.
I don’t get invited to anything on it. Mind games is just that broken. I got my 1800 set on it and instantly got told to reroll something else.

Why am I going to be excited for something like this when my actual in game experience is awful, and people are going to copy what they’re seeing here and demand more of it?

Happy players make happy viewers.
Players are not happy.

God that’s such a terrible name. Gives me the image of squatting on the commode after eating an entire wicker basket.

No thanks.

This stuff is costing you more customers than it’s earning you in ad revenue.

Ok I’m gonna take from your guys playbook

You think we want E-sports but we don’t

This sounds cool!

I think this will be a much better way to create competitive play in M+ than competitive timing.

Wonder what the store pet for that is going to be

Why would they do this after doing the DWB charity where they were actually hands off when it came to the money . They did something that should give them some good p.r. then they turn around and shoot the other foot.

Well looking at this and the previous expansion? Maybe it’s an accurate description for the dev process.

Welp, this got ratioed to hell. Swing and a miss.

Bad enough this expansion has bigotry to class’ specialization and then this.

I’ll watch the push if I’m paid or given game time. Tax purposes keep it under 600!

I find charity stuff like the pet funny personally. All that money raised for charity, that counts towards Blizzards charitable contributions for taxes next year.

Like you’re not making a donation directly to the charitable organisation so no tax credits for you…you give the money to Blizzard who gives you a dumb digital pet and probably gets more money back in tax credits than it costs them to implement the pet in the first place. As much much money as they helped raise for the charity with these pets, they aren’t totally altruistic endeavours on corporations that do this stuff.

Actually the current one the donations we give go directly to the charity. Everyone of us that have donated have actually gotten a receipt from Doctors Without Borders for tax purposes.

Blizz may get an Atta boy for setting it up and they might get some kind of tax credit for setting it up also but the players get to use it for their taxes because of the actual donations.
