Welcome to The Great Push!

Well timed! Well said! Hear, hear!

To expand on this statement:

  1. The need to add abilities to the GCD to make it clear to viewers when abilities were used.
  2. The timer.
  3. The exceedingly mechanical nature of dungeons that didn’t exist before. For example needing certain interrupts and class favorites to circumvent punishing mechanics.

Disclaimer: I do think M+ should be more difficult than larger party content but both should be mechanically simpler than they are today. You’re not going to get good class representation until things are made a bit simpler mechanically.

I think I’m not alone in thinking you should PUSH e-sports right out the door. They’ve done more harm than good to the GAME of WoW over the years. Sure, the COMPANY may have made bank, but it came at the cost of a game that is losing its soul more and more every day.

Here to comment that this is a waste and I dislike this push.

Not only are the comps going to be cookie cutter, but the casting will also suffer because of it. Which makes watching events like this even worse.

The great part about watching other esports is literally the casters, and the information that they spend weeks gathering about the teams, classes/champs, the maps/levels/dungeons they play on and how it all interacts with each other.

Watch a starcraft cast, the casters will have watched vods of every competitor, theyll have noticed patterns in play, mindset, and ability, and throughout the match they will have articulated why the players are doing what they are doing almost every step of the way based on almost every variable.

WoW has limited areas for these interactions which makes the commentary extremely repetitive that hits boring incredibly quickly.

There are only so many times you can hear about fire mages and their combustion windows before it makes you nauseous.

And this isnt a dig on the casters, I cant hate on them for being put into a situation that is literally subpar.

Take wow back to what it was and ditch all this esports garbage. You’ve got separate games for that stuff and your fan base is shrinking. Concentrate on fun and not on competitive stuff and you will tenfold the money that you are currently trying to make. Easy logic.

Looking forward for this event, but I’d like to make a suggestion that would make this way more interesting from a community point of view:

  1. Teams may only use a given Specialization once per tournament.

Pros:

  1. Spec variety
  2. Creativity in comps
  3. Provides a better opportunity for viewers to see their specs represented

Cons:

  1. Competitors would need to play specializations that they might not be familiar with, thus favoring players who are good in multiple specs.

I guess I could be blindfolded but you are saying it’s so noticeable. Yet people are doing +25 dungeons or +18’s in MDI three chesting them. Mythic Raiders clear and re-clear weekly. Torghast people are pulling multiple rooms in carries.

Can we not, please? There is just too much negative stuff that comes out of eSports in an MMO. Put the money back into focusing on improving the game and stopping players from leaving.

It’s stupid and before I go on, from the top of my head I can guarantee you most of the time it will be the same classes, you will see a balance druid, a mage, a hpal, a warlock, a priest, a VDH, a rogue, it’s the same old same old in almost every single run.

Oh will you look at that, top 20 runs have all the same compositions except one shaman and one monk. You have a druid, a rogue and a mage on DPS with a hpal on heals and a VDH on tank. And it goes on down the list, almost nothing changes.

The only regular exceptions in the top runs is a shaman healer, a monk DPS and the best bear tank in existence. Most everything else is a copy paste of the same group, it’s boring, it’s stupid, it’s a very bad decision by Blizzard and should never have made it past PTR.

Or a stubborn bowel movement.

Nah, no spec stacking. Fire, chicken, outlaw.

Thanks, that helps me get some perspective on this. Yeah, I do remember the player-organized stuff which was totally fine. I’m just now realizing how much the game is truly tuned “officially” towards e-sports now. Look, if folks enjoy that and want to participate in that, more power to them. But it’s definitely not my thing. At all. I don’t have an issue with that being an aspect of the game in general, but when the game is actually built around it… that’s disheartening. Very much so.

Didn’t want to be the one to say it, but…yeah

Normal sports are boring to me. Trying to make video games that are an escape from the normal life into having sports into them is bleh. Not interested. Maybe make a great push at better quality of your games.

If only we had something like a hot fix to address serious issues between major patches.

Yeah, good luck with that.

I’m not watchin’ it, and based on the responses… not many here on the forums will either.

Honestly I really just don’t understand this e-sports push. Your not League, your not dota, your not starcraft.

not every game works with E-sports style events. I get that you want the money that you hear other e-sports people getting but WoW just isn’t the game for E-sports

I always love seeing those comments. Hold out until the X.1 patch. Then that has cut buggy content, then it’s hold out until the X.5 patch.

Or the new excuse, we don’t want to mess with balance in the middle of a tier. Cause that makes a lot of sense.

We need Thanos up in here if they ever wish to achieve balance.

Sometimes they get close, then every expac they decide to reinvent the wheel for no reason. Oh yeah, there is a reason. They try to make the specs work around power systems that are boring and buggy,
