I think Argus’ soul was used to help bind Sargeras to the Pantheon. I like the theory you have, though.
Honestly, it’d probably be more interesting if Eonar’s bargain to revive us and keep us from dying was what broke the Shadowlands - a kind of dividing by zero; us dying away from Azeroth and having a titan resurrect us. But that is a leap I think, and maybe too abstract.
When you watch the cinematic where the Arbiter effectively ‘breaks’ you can see a red bolt of energy hit her. Now that could be anything really. It could have been an attack by Sire Denathrius for all we know, but the red colouring and the energy it affected the arbiter with is very remniscient of how Argus the Unmaker looked during his final phase.
So my money is on it being Argus hitting the Arbiter after we killed him that caused the break. It would also explain why Sylvanas was so eager to start the war with the Alliance right away after we defeated the Legion. She was likely told about the Arbiter being disabled and knew that it was time to start the war to funnel souls to the Jailer.
True, though that red color is also reminiscent of the power that struck Ysera by Xavius.
Also, if it was Argus, that seems to suggest that the jailer wanted Argus to die so that the soul would presumably overload the Arbiter. But I just think that’s very far fetched because 1) the jailer would have had to play the ultimate long game and then know that Argus would die 2) the jailer would have had to have some previous insight to how much anima-current would be needed to short circuit the Arbiter.
I write the above because, through the Dreadlords, the jailer had at least some indirect influence over or through the legion.
I think they’re very interesting and avant garde proposals, but I find the Argus theory to raise more questions than it answers.
Every expansion, but Shadowlands especially by several orders of magnitude, is way, waaay too small. This is supposed to be the afterworld for hundreds if not thousands to millions of worlds, whos denizens spends thousands of years there (if not forever?), and it’s practically smaller than zandalar and kultiras… a couple of islands on one planet.
They big time missed the mark on their world creation when they made shadowlands. Obviously they couldn’t possibly have made it realistically large, but it should have been the expansion with the largest landmass in the history of the game; and THEN it would make sense to see as many azerothians as we are seeing, which honestly isn’t even enough considering how many there really should be.
Don’t be daft! It’s obvious who broke the Arbiter, and he’s the same devious villain that’s behind all the misery and woe that has plagued the realms of mortal since time in memoriam . . . Red Herring!
Titans don’t go to the Shadowlands when they die. They are magical beings and go to whatever plane Order beings would go to, similar to demons going to the Twisting Nether. Be kind of weird for the Jailer to just forget about some of the most powerful souls in existence on his way out the door.
Yeah, that’s my understanding too. Hence why I’m taking an Occam’s Razor approach to this and thinking it’s Ramornia/Denathrius.
In the Limbo WQ, for example, we see Naaru and Demons, but that’s when the Kyrians come to them in death. The Kyrian Ascended aren’t bringing them to the Shadowlands, and thus they wouldn’t have gotten to interface with the Arbiter at all.
With this take on things… Are beings like Ysera and Ursoc not magical beings that should be going to their own Nature plane? Why does Ardenweald exist?
Ardenweald is the fall and winter version of the Emerald Dream’s spring and summer. At least that’s how I recall it being described. So, spirits go to Ardenweald to await respawn
TL;DR: When something is written this poorly, the pacing doesn’t matter. It’s garbage either way imo
For example, we still don’t know what zovaal did to be locked away. We don’t know anything about his range of power, we had to speculate about his motivations until he directly tells us he’s thanos
We still have to speculate so much about an antagonist we’re supposed to have feelings about or be fearful of, despite walking all over his territory with 0 consequence
So much of this story seems like it was written on a very small napkin after many fun beverages
Yeah I kinda wish they’d stop trying to one up themselves on the epicness of the story every single expansion. Let’s just go back to the world having regular problems.
