We should never be allowed to ignore posters, here's why

I don’t care if they post their opinions, like I already said.

If only it actually worked!

No, but I also know who is going to post the same garbage they always do and I don’t need to be notified or even have to scroll past their reply. It wastes space for me.

Once again, the mods don’t go around suspending or banning the people who are just spam happy or obnoxious in my personal opinion.

Tying the forums to a single character would be a good option, though those with multiple accounts could still potentially abuse it.

It’s unfortunate that we can no longer see who is saying what and that add-on sounds like it would have been super helpful in holding people accountable for their actions.

If we still had access to it I think the results would be very revealing.

Woosh. I never said THIS was the conversation I was referring to, now did I?

A thread doesn’t have to be pure troll to be obnoxious, but it does take up precious real estate on my screen. Like one poster who has threads all through the day about every random thing they can think of, sometimes copies of things already posted. Not really worth discussing about 98% of the time, but there’s one and another… Oh and another. Quite often.

Neither did I. I was speaking generally.

If you don’t want a post on your screen, not replying to it is the best way to go about it. All posting does is bump it right to the top, where many more people will see … and then bump it further.

Before you know it, that horrible :poop:-post you didn’t want to see has 200 replies, good job!

Look up the term “sea lion”.

No, I do not have to have a conversation with anyone I don’t want to. Period.

If you can’t stand the thought of people ignoring you, that’s a “you” problem.

We need a ignore feature again, it would cut the trolls by a large margin.

looks around

Where is this forum you speak of?

But seriously …

I don’t completely disagree, but whether or not there is formal ignore opinion, there are occassionally topics and people I feel I’m going in circles with to the point that my involvement can no longer be constructive so I just mentally filter them out.

It wouldn’t shock me if one or two people out there have felt the same way about me.

There’s nothing wrong with me ignoring everything you have to say because I don’t like you and disagree with most of the things you post.

Flagging your post and getting you actioned is where the line is crossed and it’s actually a problem.

We desperately need an ignore function, there are just some people that you will never get along with. There are two ways this will work out, either being able to ignore each-other and that’s the end of it or you will have periodic butting of heads which wastes moderator time.

Whats the difference anyway? If somebody ignores you you won’t know, if they scroll passed your comments because they are annoyed by you, you won’t know either. Might as well let people ignore those that really drive them crazy instead of increasing the amount of pointless forum moderation that could be avoided by allowing people to ignore each-other.

This is a place you come to for discussion specifically, and the only referee is the mods. Basically, ingame, you are playing the game, and it’s reasonable if you don’t want to be bothered.

It’s completely off the charts irrelevant here, because you come here to knowing you can be bothered as a result of conversation, which happens very commonly. It’s a natural thing. So if you’re bothered by conversation you take part in, why should you be able to ignore people?

The discussion is more important than the contributors. It takes priority.

It’s incredibly important to the integrity of discussion that people aren’t allowed to have that kind of ability.

Why go to a party to sit in the corner?

Says who? I don’t mean it in any sort of way but you could ignore me and I would never know. You could do it even without the function and just scroll by every time you saw my portrait pop up. The point is to clean out the things I, or anyone will ignore anyway in a peacekeeping effort. If you have two people screaming in eachothers faces because they hate eachother what “communication” is really happening there other than everyone in earshot getting annoyed?

No, most likely the situation would happen where no discussion took place and people just filter out what they don’t like. I’m not saying what you bring up doesn’t happen, but this is better.

It’s not black and white currently where people are either 100% productive or not, but making it black and white by adding this cuts out the inbetween.

Also, when you say:

I remember when the feature was here, that the same amount of pollution would happen with “I ignored you” “Ignore that guy” “that guys been on my ignore list” which whether right or not, is a jab at the person in which they can’t defend.

What we have here, is objectively more valuable. At least two people screaming at each other are disagreeing.

It’s honestly a forum.

We both know that it was mostly used for when the opposite person gets the upper hand in a discussion.

I’d understand if you needed to get on the forums in order to play the game, but you came here for discussion, not to phase people out.

“I like showing off other alts. Not to troll, just to play with them. I would hate to be limited to just one. That would be terrible.”

“I have a hard time remembering who all my Friend’s Alts are. That Add-On was a blessing for me.”

Oh god, I miss Cogshanks.

If removing downvotes really was because they weren’t intended to be used as a disagree button, then they simply would’ve changed it to Agree/Disagree (a common feature of many better forums than this one).

The real reason they removed downvotes was because people were downvoting official posts and it looked bad. They disabled downvoting blue posts only, but that simply led to people downvoting any shill who replied to said posts, and upvoting every post that was critical.

The forums are not for discussion, or help, or socialising. They are a marketing tool designed to drum up hype and increase Blizzard’s revenue.

I have a list of people that need ignoring asap. Including a few MVPs. Please give us the ignore feature back.

Every other major forum I go to has these features. Ignoring, downvotes etc. All are basic functions of a forum.

Restore our ignore and downvotes.

This shouldn’t even be controversial.

Reporting trolls would cut the trolls by a large margin.

Fair enough, except for the fact that this solidifies my stance even more in the belief that this would create an echo-chamber.

Fair enough, at the same time though, if you can’t stand the thought of posters having a different opinion than you then don’t post on a forum. If you don’t want to see trolls, then do your part and use the tools given to you by Blizzard and they’ll take care of them.

The idea of this forum isn’t to get along, it’s to discuss World of Warcraft in a respectful manner. If you feel that a user has broken the CoC then use the tools given to you and report them.

Because it creates an echo-chamber.

LFR is bad for the game because it promotes bad habits and doesn’t require any growth or proficiency. That’s not good for the health of a game if the content can be done at such a low skill level and with the titanforging system offer somewhat competitive rewards.

LFR can’t be improved upon without it basically being a sh**show Normal run with no dedicated leader. Any changes you could make to LFR to improve it would basically move it towards just being a Normal run, which is already in the game.

The only way they could “improve” LFR is if they significantly reduced rewards and made it like a training zone where it teaches you the fight mechanics like the proving grounds, at which point it may as well just be solo content with AI bots.

I don’t agree with this and I think it’s nonsense but it’s always good to see both sides of an argument. This is a prime example of my reasoning to never be allowed to ignore a poster. Half of the forum would instantly ignore this guy so they never see him again, so he’ll just be hanging out in his little echo-chamber with the other like-minded posters.
