Edit 8/15/2021 This appears to have been mostly fixed by Wave and/or Blizzard. If you are still experiencing issues, you should definitely mention it here and contact Wave to request they reconfigure your modem’s port security. In the meantime, a VPN like the one mentioned below will help.

Edit: For those of you having issues even connecting, as mentioned further down the thread, using a VPN can help alleviate the issue temporarily. The best uncapped free VPN is ProtonVPN, which you can get at the URL below.

Edit 2: This has since progressed to the point that it is affecting the launcher and other Blizzard games for me. (8/15/21, 12:45 AM PST)

The issue began Friday (8/13/21), and has persisted. Latency has been varying between normal and over 6000ms. The LookingGlass report seems to indicate the connection is being routed through an Amsterdam datacenter owned by Blizzard for some reason, despite me being in the pacific northwest, and connecting to US-BleedingHollow.

I have restarted my PC, router, and cable modem, flushed the DNS cache, and tried three different DNS service providers (1.1.1.1, OpenDNS, and the ISP provided one from Wave.) None of these steps seem to have fixed the issue.

Edit: I should note, this only appears to be affecting World of Warcraft. I can browse, perform speed tests, stream video, or play other games just fine. The connection issue appears to be specifically in that cluster of servers in the Amsterdam datacenter.

I have been experiencing the exact same issue all day today. It made playing games unbearable as I was having high ping and inconsistent connections. It appeared to be all blizzard games as I tried in WoW and Overwatch. Launching games on other clients yielded 0 issues.

Exact same issue. I can use a VPN and get normal latency like I had to before. It started last night for me 8-13-2021 at about or around 6pm. Wave Broadband user too. I know it is Wave as using a VPN works around the issue node that’s causing this.

It looks like it is right outside my home network though. I hate dealing with Wave as it took almost 6 months of fighting to fix this same issue with them last time.

Edit to add: Its not being routed to amsterdam they just have not changed the name of the previous owner of that particular cluster.

Good lord, I’ve been fighting this issue since last night (08/13/21) as well. I am also a Wave Broadband customer. WoW seems to be the only thing affected, I have a realm latency of 11,501 while anything else I do on the internet outside of WoW works perfectly.c

It has said that forever, its in the US however. You can use a VPN and the latency will be playable until they fix whatever is broken though. Are you all in the Washington State area?

Yes. Northern Olympic peninsula.

Using ProtonVPN did help, but it took a few tries to find a node that actually fixed it (and the latency is still at least double what would be normal for me, though that’s to be expected on a free VPN service.)

Your in my area then makes sense. Make sure to contact them and let them know about the issue also. I use Windscribe VPN. My latency is pretty much the same with Windscribe.

Same issue here. Port Angeles, WA 98362. Using OlyPen cable internet. Usually rock solid performance.

Same area as Demoncake, same issue. Game is unplayable, but no other internet issues (Youtube, Hulu, Twitch, etc. all run fine).

Could everyone please post up a WinMTR the link is below. Run it for 10 minutes while in the game. Instructions below. Make sure to turn off your VPN also while running it.

I am also a Wave user in the Seattle area and am experiencing this with WoW and Overwatch. Completely unplayable, but speed tests are over 700mbps.

We are also experiencing the same problem since last night (8/13). We’re on Wave in Oregon. Called and went through all troubleshooting steps with Wave. They see no problems from their end. They have recommended a technician visit but can’t get here until Tuesday. Streaming, web browsing, etc. all work just fine. Only a problem with Blizzard.

If the issue is specific to an ISP and using a VPN gets around the issue, then the core of the problem is likely something with the routing the ISP is using to get your data to us.

A VPN does really 1 or 2 things. It changes the routing your connection takes to get to a particular service and it may also encrypt your data.

Given that everyone here is reporting the same ISP. I would lean towards routing. Reporting the issue to them is definitely important, also reporting that using a VPN solves the issue to them can help them focus their investigation on their DNS services or contracted peering partners. It could be something as simple as updating their DNS registries. Or it could be they need to work with their peering partner to find the source of the problem.

Please note if you try a vpn and do not see a change, try changing the location setup within the VPN so it re routes you through different networks.

Also a VPN is not intended to be a permanent work around and we do not support troubleshooting connections through a VPN (We just recommend it as diagnostic or as a temporary work around. So please make sure you are all reaching out to the ISP with the information I mentioned earlier.
