Water Strider

I’m sorry but no.

We are not equals. Someone who does nothing in the game will never be the equal of someone who raids, or PvPs or grinds reps/achievements. I’m all for casuals having access to decent gear in order to complete the things they desire(whatever those may be). However. Giving heroic raid level gear away willy nilly has killed Normal and Heroic raiding and has made M+8 and below essentially a waste of time for everyone.

We are equals in the fact that everyone has the choice to do everything within WoW. The fact some people choose not to, while others bust their butts. No, those people aren’t equals. The lazy should not have what the others have.

I grinded my Strider during MoP, it honestly wasn’t hard. The few dailies in Kasarang Wilds literally took 15 minutes, if that to complete. Far from your “18 hours a day” jibberish. The Crimson Strider from WoD was a lot of work though. Getting the fishing shack to level 3, getting Nat Pagle and then catching 100 Lunkers. That was a test of patience. So no, you shouldn’t have the same things I have.

Again, I’m all for casuals having access to decent gear to complete their activities. But Blizzard continuously rendering what was once rewarding gameplay useless for the sake of people like you is killing the game.

Like, I don’t have The Insane achievement because I haven’t grinded all of the reps. I don’t raid Mythic so I don’t have all those gorgeous transmogs or nifty titles or nifty Mythic only mounts. But by your logic, I’m equal to those that do since our sub fee is the same, thus I should have the Mythic Jaina Mount and full Mythic set of gear mailed to me with the achievements added upon next time I log in. Oh, I don’t enjoy PvP either but I like the PvP mounts and titles and sets, so those should be added to my collection as well. Do you not see how asinine that sounds?

EVERYONE has access to do the same things in this game. People choosing to focus on PvP, or Raiding, or Pet Battles, or Transmog farming, Achievement hunting, RP’ing, etc… By all means. Focus on what you want but if you choose to not do any of the content, then no, you should not have the rewards obtained from doing said content.

This game is designed around many playstyles. But the key word there is “play”. If you do nothing, you deserve nothing.

On topic. the entire mount equipment system is stupid. Luckily I primarily play tanks so I don’t need to worry about the daze equipment. And given that equipment is destroyed each time you replace it(and they don’t stack in inventory last I heard). I’m just going to use the stupid water walking things and continue using my Crimson Strider that I GRINDED for, that I EARNED and pretend nothing has changed.

I’m listening.

So you’re saying that Blizzard started handing out equal to everyone for trivial content.

Alright, go ahead.

Agreed.

To you they might be lazy but guess what? They are getting the same perks and free heroic raiding ilvl gear for nothing.

So all of a sudden we’re near equals again.

Alright, many people did. Now everyone is going to be able to have water walking with no effort, so we’re back at that equal thing again.

Opinions are opinions.

The development team disagrees with you.

Well, luckily for the rest of us, Ion doesn’t agree with you.

You are a troll and I’m biting but this is my last response to you.

We are not equals. Blizzard killing their game catering to lazy entitled players does not make the lazy entitled player suddenly equal to the person who busts their butt. Blizzard killing content for the sake of the lazy and entitled will not suddenly make the lazy and entitled equal to the people actually doing content.

You think these changes make you equal to 9/9 Mythic raiders, or 2000+ rated PvP’ers, or people with 25,0000+ achievements, etc… They don’t.

Again, the content has always been there. People who choose not to do content should not have rewards from said content. Disagree all you want, that’s fine. My opinion is just that, my opinion.

Your “us” is your opinion. My opinion is also shared by many as the countless threads created about this very topic show.

For the record, there are a lot of things I disagree with Ion about. There are a lot of things he disagrees with the players about. This isn’t some new revelation.

Which aligns with the current direction of the game, which is the same vision as the development team holds for WoW.

Those opinions aren’t the important ones as they don’t align with the development teams opinions, ideas, and vision.

Yeah, well, we’ll all be walking on the water tomorrow. Just like equals.

In no Azeroth zone is this a thing, sorry. You can’t just make stuff up and expect to be believed.

That is good to hear, yea. It was speculated that it may work like the Safari Hat used to, before it became a toy. You used to get it in the mail on every newly-made alt as a well. We shall see tomorrow.

Makes no difference for my argument if I have it or not. As I said already those who don’t have it are gaining more from 8.2 changes than those who do, sure, but it still a net gain even for those who have it.

Please do so, I’m not biased at all and if you provide good arguments I will change my mind, I just can’t see how the choice between a new option and a better version of what you already have is not a net win even for players with the striders.

Okay I lied, this will be my last response.

Blizzard’s vision changes. Example, they pruned the hell out of classes for the sake of simplicity and bloating. To make things more accessible for the people who didn’t desire to learn. But they openly ADMITTED they took it too far. Which means their vision on that has changed, whether or not they act, time will tell.

No. You will never be my equal. Nothing you possess can come close to equaling my fabulous Crimson Water Strider. You may be able to walk on water with your panther or yak or whatever you desire but you not having the amazing and fabulous Water Striders, that by itself means you can’t equal me. Inflatable shoes be damned. My Striders will continue doing what they do. And they will continue being cute and fabulous.

Alright, I’ll have fun being your equal for the next handful of expansions while I’m walking on water and having heroic raid ilvl gear thrown at my face all day long.

If this were a single player game, sure. But it’s not. When the average speed of players increases, and you literally and figuratively “fall behind”, it stops feeling the same as what you had before.

It’s the same problem felt by those who hate flying… When the way they want to play becomes a competitive liability, they feel forced to fly as well to keep up. They can’t just “keep using ground mounts” because it no longer has the same value as it did.

The last part of your post send based on a reading comprehension error, reread what you’re replying to again more carefully.

I like your idea of using artifact appearances as an example, however using the mage tower ones is quite a bit different from our current case… Mage tower stuff is no longer obtainable nor farmable, while the water strider is, luckily all other artifact appearances are farmable…

So a more relatable example would be if 6 years from now Blizzard decided to make all the farmable appearances available for purchase, I’d be fine with that… In one hand if I want my alts to have one of the ones I already earned then I’d have to buy it (for an insignificant price btw) but I also get access to every single one of them if I want now.

Which is absolutely freaking stupid. That was the whole point behind that mount. It’s even in the name. “Strider”. It’s now no longer a strider. Just another mount. At least I still have my raft, so it’s something.

I also didn’t know about the boots. Are they consumed upon using or do they just have a cool-down or something?

Consumed upon use and character wide.

Well that just seems a tad foolish. This move removing water walking abilities from a water walking mount seriously just makes no sense. Why not remove the flying ability from our flying mounts, too, while you’re at it, Blizz.

(That’s not a literal suggestion, by the way.)

i would also like to be able to buy the mounts from this and the last few expansions that dropped in mythic only raids. They are still farmable and “it’s just not fair for some to have them and I don’t.” But I would be willing to but for gold.

How boring. MMORPGs are about character progression… Sounds like you like having the game play for you so you don’t have to.

Well you don’t really “fall behind” do you?, you are just equal than the rest. I guess if you want to see it as relative value like you say, then yes you are “less special” now, but in absolute terms is still a net win…

Coming back to my car example, would you complain or reject the offer?, I mean someone who didn’t had any 4-wheel-drive car would be gaining more than you, but you gain nevertheless.

To be fair, they did. Which is why we have Pathfinder.

And also why I won’t be surprised if they take mount equipment off of us later and add it to Pathfinder.

Once mounts were account wide, they should have put those quests back in. The game lost something compelling and interesting without that content.

Hmm ok, I have to congratulate you there, you are the first one I’ve found who has made a valid point right there. No, I think there’s value in players having to go back and do the content to earn the rewards, specially cosmetic ones.

However, in this case I think it’s simply that the new system being introduced overlaps with what players have, based on your input I agree that there’s a “feels bad” portion about the water strider becoming less special for those who earned it.

I still think players are massively overreacting and it’s not that big of a deal, but well, ok, at least I see some reason why it might feel bad.

then I want all pvp titles and mounts, all raid mounts, all raid transmogs, the best in slot azerite gear from the raids put on a vendor so I can buy them for gold. I don’t have 18 hours a day to play this game and I want to be on equal footing with everyone else. It’s only fair, right?
