According to world of wargraphs: 52% of the population owns an Azure strider, while about 6% owns the Crimson strider. That’s a total of 58% of the population with at least 1 strider. Sky Golem is owned by 53.7%, while only being useful to HERBALISTS.
You are not losing the water walking ability. You are gaining the water walking ability for ALL mounts - those who did not obtain the water strider DO NOT. They have to pay a much higher price for it.
Sky golem can gather while mounted, and not dismounted unless dazed.
Strider was only useful on water, and you are dismounted if hit 100%, no matter what direction the attack came from or if you take damage or not. That’s on water where it was supposedly superduper OP as hell.
As noted in my earlier post in the thread, the genesis of this change was an observation that the Water Strider was being used disproportionately frequently, which led to a genuine concern on our part that the mechanical advantage of water-walking was stomping on the cosmetic choice of a player’s favorite mount. This is different from other utility mounts like the Traveler’s Mammoth or Expedition Yak, which are rarely used for any prolonged period of time or as a default mount;those are summoned specifically for the use of their vendors and then dismissed.
Bold: claiming players chose it too much. claiming they were being “forced” to use it instead of their “favorite” mount.
Bold Italic: Which is no different than players mounting the strider when water was around and then went back to their normal one after.
Despite the spins and twists, the excuses are contradictory and inconsistent.
EVERY herbalist is “forced” to use the Sky Golem the same others were supposedly forced to use the strider around water.
Here’s a simple and logical solution that doesn’t require much head scratching… DESIGN BETTER TERRAIN AND/OR ADD MORE MOUNTS INSTEAD OF GUTTING THE STRIDER.
Also, keep in mind that some people only bothered with fishing to get the mount. So another consequence of this decision is more dumping on professions.
It was lazy, illogical, spiteful, and destructive to a game they are already destroying.
ROFLMAO, I used the water strider for what it was meant for. I mounted it and ran across water. I never used it for my main mount or for any prolonged period of time. I used it specifically for what it’s intended for, to walk across water, but some how I was using it wrong.
And yes revenseye I know you did not say that, it was Ion. I was not really talking to you, It just looks that way, sorry for any misunderstanding.
The primary reason people did the grind for the strider was for it’s special passive as well — now and forever (even when Blizzard decides to remove or modify the mount equipment)
My thoughts as well. We have heard over and over that people see a “sea of striders when crossing water”. But, not once have I hard about a sea of striders in any of the zones. I have never even seen a sea of striders in Nazmir. I did see one strider in Nazjatar and I waved to him from my strider.
Sure. If l force myself to use inferior mount equipment to re-enable something that was taken away from me.
I don’t spend 10% of my time crossing water. 10% mounted speed boost is better, no contest.
Why I have to give up the freedom to use my on-demand water walking mount for that… I don’t understand, and no one has been able to adequately explain how this is good for most us.
Except Paladins, it’s fine for them… yaaaay. /snark
I just have to add my 2 copper fwiw.
I’ve followed just about every single thread on this topic for months now.
I said I would cancel my subscription if they implemented this strider break, nd after I get flying, that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
This company has always had problems listening to their player base, and with this, I have had enough of their crap.
Been playing since just before the 1st expansion.
The give and take away mindset has finally broken me. The bug I worked for worked when I first logged on. As soon as I opened my mail and accepted the ridiculous explanation of my strider “losing” his ability to walk on water, that’s exactly what happened. He sank like a rock, and I was so angry, I could have spit razor blades. You couldn’t have seen your way to listen to 90+% of your player base.
Nope, nope nope…you just had to make sure you pissed everyone off, give them the finger, and tell them to take a hike…
After 14 years on the game, I’d feel weird if I didn’t get flying if I had the chance. Like I walked away incomplete. After seeing the new areas, which just seemed like the water world of Valshara(?) from several expansions ago, nothing has convinced me more that I’m making the right decision. No more money from me.
Strange part about this is you don’t need the sky golem to herb in nazjartar at all.I guess it for kul-toras and zandalar…lol.
Oh ,also there really isn’t that much water in nazjartar and I found away around the strider problem .Underwater breathing potion and subdue sea horse.
