“Go get”? Yes. Walk to a mailbox. Open mailbox. Get your ability back. Is this the hill you want to die on? Is this the big barrier that will take you hours upon hours and a raid group of world firsters to overcome? Is this the huge setback you want to spend the next two months complaining about?
If you have the strider you have the rep. If you don’t have the rep you don’t have the strider and you’re not losing anything because you didn’t have it in the first place. So yes, that is my defense. In math terms 10-5+5=10. Not 8.
And here I’ve been just going to a repair NPC and mailbox. I guess TV got it right about you guys.
Nope. Still waiting for someone to tell me what they will be unable to do with their water strider in 8.2 that they can do now.
I’m seeing this cited often, but with no explanation or reasoning as to why most players would use it. Is it because the reason most people used it inconvenient to the fact flying has been gated this expansion for an unreasonable amount of time?
I saw the strider used often, yes. I never thought to myself they should nerf it. But that’s probably because I don’t really care how others decide to play.
If I want to mount and fly - I can’t use a water strider.
Unless you can’t fly in that zone
If I want to use a mount that looks cool - I shouldn’t use a water strider.
And still most people seem to prefer the water walking effect over the looks.
If I want to mount and pick herbs - I wouldn’t use a water strider.
is everyone in the game a herbalist? does everyone considers picking herb while mounted to be superior than water walking?
If I want to mount and transport friends - I can’t use a water strider.
Do you need to transport friends at a relevant frequency?
If I want to mount instantly (as a druid) - I can’t use a water strider.
Is everyone in the game a druid?
If I want to mount and repair - I can’t use a water strider.
If I want to mount and transmog - I can’t use a water strider.
So you just go out there in the world on the open field, constantly repairing and transmogging your equipment? Didn’t noticed a dominance of people walking around with repair vendors. but I guess I’ve done it before…
If I want to mount and use the AH - I can’t use a water strider.
ignoring the fact that people who use the ah are usually standing still. These vendor mounts are mostly used while stationary, the attachment to a mount adds nothing to it.
Having the strider keep it’s ability, and not benefit from the mount equipment does not increase the amount of times I would use the strider; and I already use many other mounts aside from the strider.
So having the water walking ability stay on the water strider won’t make it be used “too much”. The new equipment on other mounts will decrease the amount of times I use the strider in total.
What’s the problem with this being how the strider is handled? - which btw, makes it consistent with how the Sky Golem is being used.
if you ignore the fact that one of the equipments will be dead on arrival… I’ll grant you that the strider would be less dominant but it would still provide you with a significant ingame advantage since it would allow you to double dip and take 2 effects instead of 1.
As for the rest of that …what can i even say to somebody who took minor problem i have and exaggerate it to a point where it’s just silly?
Your defense was that since i have the rep and the strider, that i could get the equipment for free. What it sounds like to me that i shouldn’t complain that my mount that previously had the waterwalking as default, been taken away…
I honestly don’t know what’s the nonsense with the mailbox that you brought up, and even try bother to make sense of it at this point, but like i said… i’m an Engineer, that means i have access to M.O.L.L.E if i’m high enough skill lvl and have it (which i do), and again, i like to remind the Katy Stampwhistle toy exists. (And Nightborne gets free mailboxes too)
Not really surprised you didn’t get the TF2 Reference i made. That game is old but still enjoyable. I havn’t watched Big Bang Theory, and no intention to really get into it, it’s not all that interesting to me.
So you’re saying i’m a nerd that obsesses over detail, hence the big bang clip? I have no problem with that considering that’s what i am really. (and have gotten my obsession get in the way sometimes) Or is there something else you meant to imply? Provide me context or correct me if i get it wrong.
My problem isn’t the strider being … well since i can’t say nerfed, changed then, like i said, i like the idea of mount equipment, it just sucks that the strider had to be affected when it should’ve just been left alone and given no slots what so ever.
My problem here is people saying it will be the same exact thing, without mentioning there would be extra steps to take (yea small steps, but steps none the less) into… getting your mount back to the previous state it once was before it changed, cause before the change, waterwalking came with the mount… now after the change, it doesn’t, you need to put water walking equipment on it.
No. A nerf means a long term or permanent loss of power or an ability. This is a two second inconvenience. It’s as much a nerf as being forced to reselect your character spec talents due to an update.
Will get, not could. Will.
It’s the stated fact that a free water walking equipment item WILL be mailed to you when 8.2 goes live. Guess where you pick up that in-game mail? That’s right, a mailbox.
No. I’m saying that engineers tend to turn simple problems into giant world ending issues that need complex solutions. I’m saying that you are busy trying to design a Rube Goldberg to butter toast instead of just taking a knife out of the drawer and using your own two hands. I’m saying you are creating a problem where none exists so that you can have a problem to solve to reinforce your critical position in the WoW dev team.
Hence the Big Bang clip.
Why is that? What if I want to use my strider as an anti-daze mount instead of water walking? Why should you take that choice away from me? Why should the devs be forced to spend even five minutes adding extra code for no good reason? Who benefits? Why have one more mount exempt from the new system? I have yet to hear a solid explanation as to how that suggestion would do anyone any good?
Then your problem is not with me. I have openly and honestly acknowledged that these steps exist. Where we disagree is on the amount of impact it will have.
You, and others, keep calling this a nerf. As I said at the top of this post it’s not. It is not a loss of any ability. It is a minor inconvenience to get that ability back. Yes, the ability will no longer be innate. But it will still be present and easily obtainable. I’m not stealing your wallet if I move it six inches over on the table.
Water Strider plus stirrups = water walking and mounted interaction (herb gathering) Currently available on Live.
Sky Golem plus barding = herb gathering plus no daze. Currently available on Live.
Sky Golem plus Water Walking potion = herb gathering plus water walking. Currently available on Live.
Any mount plus barding and/or stirrup or water walking potion = multiple functionality currently available on Live.
8.2 patch launch = no dual functionality instead replaced with single function collection level abilities, per character, with a gold price to change functionality per character. Unless you believe Blizzard will allow the current crafted items to remain and stack which is highly unlikely.
I put the strider in the golem category. I only use them when requiring their special ability. ONLY time. I’m disappointed to hear about the strider. It’s just another situation where you grind away for something only to have it removed later. Getting really old.
So a water strider mount losing it’s ability that it had previously form the get-go?
Making it free doesn’t mean it’s not valid to criticize.
If you want to talk about creating a problem where none exist, why not we talk about dazing and how that’s created to dismount players where they have to create a solution to prevent you from being dazed? To be completely honest, this shouldn’t need to be a thing. I’m usually optimistic with some things in this game, but i would be celebrating if daze is gone for good.
… cause the mount lost something previously it had before from the get go and we have to equip it again…
I wouldn’t call it a buff either.
Making it easily obtainable doesn’t mean it’s not valid to criticize.
I want my motorcycle mount to fly. Though if that happens, that will affect the flying mounts, hypothetically speaking. So i wouldn’t want that.
This is my own issue. If they want to remove water walking from the water strider, then they need to take the special ability from the sky golem. If they want people to still be able to use the sky golem to herb while mounted, then they need to leave water walking on the water strider. One or the other. All mounts that have special abilities treated the same, regardless of what special ability they have.
Personally, I only ride my water strider if I am actually crossing water. If it loses that special ability altogether, I would never ride it at all. My shamans and death knights already don’t use my water strider.
Losing it for the few seconds it takes to get it back, yes. Again, it’s like saying you need to open up your character talent window and reselect your talents equals a nerf. No, you just need to turn the ability back on. It didn’t disappear. It just changed forms. One time I gave a friend a $20 bill and he gave me two $5’s and a $10. Was I robbed?
Yes it does. The criticism is not valid because what is taken with one hand is given back with the other.
Irrelevant to the topic at hand.
Again, 10-5+5=10. A nerf or buff implies a net loss or gain. This is net neutral.
Yes it does. The criticism is not valid because we are not put out in any meaningful degree.
Since we seem to have descended into a circular debate I’m going to step aside. I feel I’ve made my views and the logic behind them clear. I do appreciate a spirited discussion though. Better than a big fat “meh” when the devs announce something new.
However, I do want to make a couple of points.
I am not personally invested in this topic. I have a strider myself. But I don’t feel ripped off or put out by this new system. I only expect to use the new equipment for a couple of weeks until I unlock flying. At that point it will be irrelevant to me until 9.0.
I applaud Blizzard for taking a first step in revamping the entire mount system. I would like to see this idea expanded upon in the next expansion. I would love to see some sort of more complex progression and/or transmog system around mounts. Bellular made an excellent video on this subject just yesterday citing the ESO mount system as an example.
It may not be perfect. But these kind of changes show the devs are actually listening to player feedback. They are trying to make positive changes. This mindset deserves support. The last thing I want is the team playing it safe because a small vocal section of the playerbase may be resistant to any change.
This times 1000. Obviously having a water walking mount is useful for this expansion. You would think Blizz could add some other mounts that have water walking. Maybe make some incentives to unlock them, but no. We’re going to just make all mounts equal.
The game is really going in the wrong direction. I know this change seems minor but the homogenization of everything is starting to go off the deep end.
I am serious. BfA zones and for recent obvious reason, Darkmoon Faire. Majority are Water Striders. Why the heck would I lie about it? I have nothing to gain and it’s already a done deal.
Fair enough, Though i hesitant to have any ideas to the mount equipment if it that means its gonna effect the mounts negatively too. It’s positive, but in all honestly theirs gonna be problems, i want people to acknowledge, like this is a good step, but it also negatively impacted something. and that is something we shouldn’t just brush off easily.
Like i said, i like the Idea on Paper, but the execution and the long term future remains to be seen.
Though if theirs only one issue i take from this post…
Everything is valid for criticism whether you like it or not. Sorry, not sorry.
No one has to pretend.
I rarely see other people using the strider unless they’re going over water. I almost always change my mount after getting off the water.
