Water Strider Used Too Much?

So you are traveling around zones on your water strider, never once getting attacked by hostile mobs?

This makes no sense because other mounts aren’t useless. I use my other ones all the time for looks. I only use my water strider when I plan to go over water, or if I feel like enjoying the sound of it.

Funny you should mention that… On numerous occations the community has requested new or upcomming mounts to be made into waterwalking mounts because it was thematically fitting for them, and it would give some variety over the water strider… the only response we ever got from anyone in Blizzard on the topic was that adding waterwalking to any new mounts would remove the uniqueness of the Water Strider and that that was something they weren’t willing to do.

this is actually 50-50. sicne u can get item to interact with nodes while moutned this saves you time in areas with rivers/lakes.

I think most of us use the macro for different situations, but I must say it will be nice to finally us the mount I want, instead of water strider as default mount for non flight zones.

i’l quote from 8.2 wowhead.

As a result, Water Strider will lose innate water walking, otherwise it would still have an advantage over other mounts.

simple solution would be to disable striders from benefiting from equipment perks :man_shrugging: but I guess they realize we’d just continue using the macro and slot the rest of our mounts for anti-daze.

What does getting attacked by hostile mobs have to do with using a non water strider mount?

I am talking “useless” from a purely practical/gameplay matter. I personally dont care about looks when I am out and about WQing, etc.

Blizzard likes to surround nodes with hostile mobs. The water strider’s water walking breaks if it gets hit. I specifically don’t bother with a strider/stirrups combination because, more often than not, by the time I reach water I can’t simply jump over, the water strider has taken a hit that’s broken its water walking.

Because if you take a hit, the water strider no longer walks on water until you remount it. So it has no advantage to ride cross country through hostile mobs; you’ll often reach water just to find your bug sinks.

But you aren’t guaranteed to take a hit. So I should stop using the water strider mount in an area that has water, because I might possibly get hit? And I might have to remount? As opposed to using a different mount when I 100% will have to remount?

I will roll the dice on the “mights”. And save time in the long run.

I see waaaay more people using the MoP yak than the water strider. Blizz, I fully expect the MoP yak to have its vendors removed ASAP since that makes about as much sense. The balls in your court now.

Well, from my own play experience I see them more than any other mount.

There appear to be more words on the page…

If your goal is to have waterwalking while leveling, you can just enable the waterwalking Mount Equipment (there will be one available via Anglers reputation that will be bind-on-account), and it’ll work exactly as before, with the benefit of making all of that character’s mounts walk on water.

T&E announced that if you have a Water Strider on 8.2’s launch, you will get a free [Inflatable Mount Shoots] item which lets all your mounts walk on water. In addition, if you head to the vendor where you bought a Water Strider, you’ll be able to buy more of this item for a greatly reduced price as an advantage for those who already have the Water Strider.

Not a nerf. Your water strider can still water stride in 8.2.

I can guarantee that Sky Golem was used AT LEAST 1000% more. (AND it can fly, AND if you’re a Death Knight or Shaman OR you have a Water Walking Elixir, it can walk on Water too)

And is MUCH easier to obtain. Not to mention you can get a free recolor of the Sky Golem for collecting Toys, which becomes more and more easy as more and more toys are added to the game. I’m over 500 now.

But did they strip the Sky Golem of its unique skill and make it equipment? Nope. They made it the exception and made equipment not affect it. They should have done that to the striders as well.

So what your saying is…

The strider without waterwalking in 8.2 with the waterwalking equipment cause it can’t waterwalk anymore by default, is the same Strider that came with waterwalking as default prior? …and you don’t see this being a nerf there for having an extra step in once was a previously available thing that came default with the mount, just to get it back in it’s previously default state?

And don’t get me wrong, I actually like the idea of mount equipment. I think it’s a great idea on paper. but we can’t pretend their aren’t problems with this or things that have been negatively effected by it, and to say the strider didn’t change (when it clearly did …), i mean, that’s not being honest now.

I have noted that you brought the other notes from 8.2 wowhead. To the “you can get the mount equipment for free”… well… wouldn’t that mean their’s an extra step now to get the strider back to it’s effect that we had from the get-go?..before the…nerf? and not the same thing? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

…That water striders will still be able to water stride in 8.2. Not a nerf. Everything else in your post is what YOU are saying.

Depending on how close to a mailbox you log out before 8.2 goes live, there may not be a single step needed. But yes, some of us are going to have to endure the arduous grind of walking to a mailbox. It’s kinda like saying your class is nerfed when Blizzard does a reset forcing you to reselect your talents.

If you say so.

I was pointing out that what you said isn’t true and explained (i actually haven’t seen you explain on why you see them the same or think there’s no nerf) how it’s not really the same thing by comparing what it was prior and what it’s going to be in 8.2… but Mediocre at best arguments, i guess.

Is that a dig at my guild?

Nevertheless, I have explained why it’s not a nerf. When 8.2 goes live your water strider will still be able to water stride just as it does now. You said…

Yes, yes it is. Will the strider walk on water? Yes. Will you have to take a single step to enable it? Not if you log out near a mailbox. But if you consider walking to a mailbox, picking up your free item and equipping it to be a nerf, I can’t help you.

Is it the same item as before? No. Will it function exactly the same in 8.2 as it does now? Yes.

Now please tell me what your water strider will be unable to do in 8.2 that it can do today? Please explain what you are losing? Where is the nerf?

Hey, a better name then my guild’s to be completely fair with you.

If it’s not a nerf, then does the mount came with waterwalking as default or do i have to go get equipment to make it do so?

Your defense on why it’s the same thing is cause you get the item for free if you have the rep and if i’m near a mailbox?

Look, buddy, I’m an engineer, that means I solve problems. Not problems like “what is beauty?” because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy. I solve practical problems, like “how am i gonna mail my alts and sell my junk if i don’t have the katy stampwhistle toy and the yak?” the answer… use a MOLLE and Jeeves.

Are you pulling my leg?..
