Not speaking for Brahmina, but in my imaginary reality, I’m picturing it account wide, since mounts are account wide. Put water walking on my Headless Horseman’s Horse and all characters would have water walking on that mount.
Completionists would complain because they’d feel obligated to get an item for each of their 400 mounts, but I’d be tickled to death to be able pick my top 10 most used mounts and equip various items on those.
The basic picture is one of taking away a perk that has been present in the game since MoP, and tacking it in with items to purchase, requiring more than the original selling price every time someone wants to change the mount perk, or have it on alts.
The bigger picture is what else does this change affect regarding professions?
Will players who make and use or sell mount perks via professions lose that ability or income? And subsequently be required to pay out even more versus using their skills learned for the same effect, thus nullifying their choice in professions and how they make income or play the game?
In all that time? I dunno, 3496q2068549480 times? Yes, q.
I use it every single DMF since my lowbies with not enough fishing skill Has to fish from those junk pools to catch the quest fishie. They have to run around the island on the water strider to find the pools.
Alliance lowbies doing the Rambo quest use the water strider to get across the giant lake with a zillion murder murlocs.
Of course they need it in Nazmir and various other zones in the whole game with water they have to cross or fell in by accident.
The main used it to get to the Baa’l location, dying many Many MANY times along the way (stupid fatigue area). That was one doozie of a repair bill!!
I use it a lot. Almost every day. But when I’m on solid ground, I always switch to another mount cuz man is that insect freakin ugly or what.
Got my money’s worth out of it since Mists though. I’m looking forward to the mount equipment so my unicorns can dash across the oceans.
Oh, my suggestion in another thread is to leave the water bugs alone but don’t let it be able to equip any of the new things. Just plain water walking strider, no change. I think people will be happy with that. I’ll use the water walking thing on my nice mounts!
I’m surprised on the water striders are being pruned of their special effect.
I never minded using the water strider for water walking. I use a normal mount most of the time and have a separate hotkey for the strider.
What drives me crazy is having to use the ugly shredder mount on any character who is an herbalist. That becomes your default mount more than the strider ever did. I would love some option be able to persistently herb while mounted, without ever having to ride a shredder again.
I worked hard for that mount when it was current. I don’t care if you can get it in a day with badges. And I don’t care if you don’t have one. I don’t care if I’m going to get free water walking mount equipment.
The point is you are taking something away that I took the time to do. This is why people are sick of the game and the developers. Constantly taking stuff away that people worked for.
Make it like the Sky Golem that won’t be able to use mount equipment. The strider is special mount and should stay that way.
He did not.
I watched his video and he specified it was per character.
Now we have Kaivax also specifying it’s per character - do you disbelieve him?
Each toon on your account will have an equipment slot in their mount journal which will work like a gem slot.
One equipment can be slotted into this - like a gem. If you replace it the previously used one is destroyed.
This equipment will affect all the mounts for that toon, (except the herbing golems,) and have no effect on the mounts when any other of your characters is using them.
We will be given one free equipment to the toon who bought the strider - don’t know if this is for both striders or just the Aqua - and each of your other characters will need to have their own equipment bought separately if they want water walking or any other mount buff.
^ This. This is my point exactly. Idc if they want to give new players water walking mounts or items to do so; It’s a useful ability. But rather than simply add this feature and let those players who are newer to the game or frankly too lazy to go get a strider have one, we get yet another instance of taking what away what we earned and having it re-branded as a “new feature.” One no one asked for.
Is this a game-breaking issue? Of course not. In the greater scheme of things it’s almost inconsequential. But when you combine it with things like pathfinder for flying, class pruning and the like, it goes to a disturbing pattern. Then they wonder why players are frustrated
This, exactly. Especially when you consider stuff Blues have said in this thread about not wanting folks to double up on multiple abilities per character, which is what would happen if the water strider were allowed to keep water walking. Even if it were exempt from the mount equipment, folks would still be able to use that for water walking and put something else on their other mounts. Apparently, that’s a problem, although I don’t understand why.
The fact that that’s a problem means that it’s likely items such as bardings and stirrups, maybe even water walking potions and the goblin glider, won’t be available or stackable in the future.
200g is fair as a high end. i don’t think it needs to be that much, but if you made it 10g or something there’s no point, might as well make it free. also if it is very cheap, can you just carry a bunch of each and change them on a whim or would there be other restrictions stopping that.
if you wanted to go the free route, why not just make it an ability/talent that you choose and can only toggle in major cities. i feel like it will ultimately end up this way anyhow.
Along similar lines, these mount equipment items are supposed to be craftable by professions. I’m waiting to see what materials they’ll require and hoping against hope that it doesn’t include something that only comes from dungeons or raids.
