And yet somehow, with all the changes in BFA, my play time is down to less than 5 hours in the last month, and I have started actively looking for another MMO to play instead of WoW. Personally I really wish they would fire Ion, and bring someone in who might actually start making changes with an eye towards player enjoyment, rather than running rampant with whatever insane notions float around in Ion’s brain.
My problem with the Water Strider nerf is the loss of investment in time and effort. I earned my Water Strider through the Garrison Fishing Shack. It takes quite awhile. I earned it. No replacement water boots our whatever they are called is going to replace my time and effort earning my Water Strider. I know that overall I will love the new mount equipment but the Water Strider should be left alone like the Sky Golem. Thank you.
I have both striders, but only use the one from WoD (Crimson version), and shelved the other one due to the fact that it reminds me too much of a shriveled up 1960’s Barbie car which my sister had, but I couldn’t play with because it was a girl’s toy. Come on! it was an Austin Healey for crying out loud!
And 100 times bigger than any of my Hot Wheels!
EDIT - hmm…I’ve seemed to have misplaced my level 3 status somewhere.
ALSO. Has anyone confirmed that owning either strider grants the vetted status?
At this point, I just hope this game crashes and burns to the ground. Ion has been a bane on this game. He keeps making the most idiotic changes and creating issues where there was none. I’m out.
Sorry to see you go.
By turning it into a consumable they can throttle and control player movement between expansions. Quite sad really.
Pretty much what you said. These devs spewing muh immersion rubbish a lot of times. Guess what? Nothing will be more immersion breaking than seeing grand expedition yak, or a elephant that are for the most part land animals scuddling across the water, and then seeing a insect that more, or less meant to be around, or in the water sink like a rock when it is on water. These devs are hilarious, and just clueless lol.
How about flying mounts that can water walk but can’t fly until they finish patchfinder? That is the most immersive breaking thing I can think of regarding this mount fiasco lol.
And that lol.
This is really not acceptable. The waterstriders should have their ability locked like the Goblin Harvester.
Also, if they are to be made by professions, why would their images say soulbound and not Bind to account.
If these are made by professions and the intent is for them to be sold on the AH, they can’t be BOA, they have to be BOE.
I think the shoes that you purchase from the Anglers is BOA so that you can buy something that you already had the day before and mail it to all your toons. You know, the gift they are giving us for taking away the ability of the mount we grinded rep for.
A Water Strider that cannot Stride on Water… interesting concept, don’t you think?
I would very much prefer doing content to unlock a certain ability, and to be allowed to teach/apply that ability to one or several mounts of my choosing (similar to calssic Hunter Skill “Train Pet”). This way we can get several cool abilities (water walking, slowfall, herb gathering, or even object interaction, mount-on-the-run, mounted combat (as in Draenor Nagrand) or whatever) applied to different mounts of our choosing, and more abilities can be added whenever they feel like it. Don’t mess with current mounts with extra abilities, though.
Failing that, I’d rather do content to unlock a certain ability, that will be applied to a pre-determined list of mounts. This way we can get several cool abilities applied to different mounts, but adding new abilities could be problematic, since some mounts should have to swap lists. Don’t mess with current mounts with extra abilities, though.
Failing both of those options, I’d even prefer Striders to be left out of the new system, same as the Sky Golem and the Mechanized Lumber Extractor, mostly if you take into account both the golems and the striders can perform those activities due to their very nature (a lumber extractor extracts lumber (and justifiably enough, any other vegetation) and a water strider strides on water). Basically, just don’t mess with current mounts with extra abilities.
In any of these scenarios, the time I spent to get the striders remains valuable, instead of becoming an AH commodity.
Defending this half-assed idea is just nonsense
PS: My water Strider can, currently, both walk on water and ignore daze, and it can also be faster than regular mounts, and allows me to interact with objects without dismounting
.
EDIT:
there will be one available via Anglers reputation that will be bind-on-account
And what about those who only have the Crimson Water Strider and are not exalted with MoP Anglers? No shoes for them, right? Who cares
Here you have three much better options than what you intend to apply in the next patch. Use any of them, even the laziest and worst of them all “exclude striders”
Nope. It will be camouflaged until 9.0 hits live, when it will come up again
It’s the same principle as with Azerite Gear: You want a different effect? Go pay for it. They’ve learnt nothing.
Portals + Azerite = Mount item slot
A Water Strider that cannot Stride on Water… interesting concept, don’t you think?
To be fair Blizzard does make boat mounts that don’t float on water.
Can’t the Strider just keep it’s ability and not benefit from the mount equipment once the patch hits?
This is really not acceptable. The waterstriders should have their ability locked like the Goblin Harvester.
This.
This is the only way to ensure fairness to all of us who have earned the striders.
Get all these new fandangled whatever you call thems for other mounts, but don’t touch or change the strider. And in turn don’t let it benifit from any other equip slot (like the herb mount).
A small clarification to our plans with Mount Equipment–
Hitting level 100 on one character will unlock this system. Once unlocked, the system will be available to all characters, and the equipment pieces themselves will require level 20. If your goal is to have waterwalking while leveling, you can just enable the waterwalking Mount Equipment (there will be one available via Anglers reputation that will be bind-on-account), and it’ll work exactly as before, with the benefit of making all of that character’s mounts walk on water.
Stop changing the game. If you want to make a new game with new features, make a new game with new feature. There’s absolutely no reason to keep mucking about with the formula for how WoW work. I don’t even have a water strider and I think this change is ridiculously uncalled for.
They can’t because then it keeps the “problem” they’re trying to fix. The Strider would then be the free water walking option for everyone’s Alts and would be all you’d see while leveling.
Apparently it’s the one goober who doesn’t like the thing. When I’m leveling and other people are riding around, unless they’re actually crossing water, they’re on random mounts. Nobody ever sticks to just the water strider unless they’re in an area where there’s a crapload of water, like most of the new zones, since we can’t fly. When it takes ten minutes and three zone changes to move less than half an inch on a map to find the one way to get up the hill because half the zone is vertical and half of it is covered in water, people will use the mount that lets them move around the fastest, because traveling from here to there is not fun. When I have limited time to play, I don’t want to spend most of it dicking around trying to find which part of the hill I can climb, I want to go do the fun part of the game. I don’t want to spend half an hour waiting for a boat when I used to be able to just take a portal and get to the area I wanted to be in quickly.
Padding is not ‘immersive’, it’s irritating.
I did a little research on the water strider ,it appears some player used rep tokens to get this mount. But Blizzard some didn’t used these to obtain this mount they did it the hard way rep grind ,so don’t confuse people here they are not the same.
Now,I even feel betrayed.
I’ve been saying for a while, if they want to retard use of the water strider, just make it cap at 80% mount speed.
No one would use it at all. That’s about the same speed as a normal mount swimming and you wouldn’t have to stop and remount again.
Making it take longer to get to the part of the game you want to get to is a bad thing. If you could instantly teleport to work instead of having to spend an hour driving to and from each way, would you not do so? Even though ‘it makes the world feel smaller’ and you don’t get to see as many people on the way?
Your water strider is ugly.
You’ll never get me to fish.
Most pointless activity in any game is fishing.
You must be some kind of boring to fish to exalted. Yikes.
I have my alchemist make me stacks of water walking potions that barely ever get used.
You wasted time fishing for literally 0 reason LOL. I can’t wait to see all you smug water strider nerds get rekt with 8.2
