Totally agreed.
The entire system is way more convoluted and confusing than it needs to be as it is. If you want more mounts to have water walking, just make more water walking mounts. Unless that’s not the real reason, a’course.

its crap policy for sure.
MOP makes BFA look like a sick dog.
I bought 9 boosts just for playing BFA.
That didnt last long before they ruined the expansion with the controlling crap.
I go back to MOP where I was at least enjoying myself and paying for a couple subs. But apparently that wasnt good enough. They have to hunt me down over there and start ruining my game there too (pointless temple portal removals).
fine.
I can just give ESO my $$$ instead if they want to ruin the previous expansions.
T&E’s most recent recap times mentioned (multiple times) that the Mount Equipment slot is ACCOUNT WIDE.
Thats not what has been stated that Ive seen.
The equipment is account wide…the effect is PER character…ie I have to buy it on EVERY SINGLE character i have if I want water walking.
You know, if the real reason for this change was because people wanted to use a different mount for water walking, Blizz could have just made an item that gives water walking to a mount. It could have been sold alongside the striders. There was absolutely no need for this convoluted “equipment” system. People could buy the item, apply it to a mount, and bam!, the mount now has water walking as a permanent ability.
Better yet, just lengthen the time on the elixir of water walking to say an hour. cheap and easy solution.

As an alchemist, I endorse this solution.
Update it to a current content item, remove the conflict with flasks, give it a 2 hour/8 hour duration just like the barding, stirrups, and hoofplates, let it stack with the other mount items. Problem solved.
Indeed, we have all of these things in game already. Why develop a system that does the same thing as the things we ALREADY have in game.
Why develop a system that does the same thing as the things we ALREADY have in game.
[tinfoilhat] So Blizzard can phase out those other items and then nerf the new system a bit at a time and hope no one remembers the way it used to be originally. [/tinfoilhat]
I mean, think of how much more efficient water walking, anti stun, interact with object and goblin gliders make nagivating the world now with them all being stackable. When was the last time Blizzard intentionally made travel more efficient or expedient?
Here are “answers” based solely on my cynical distrust of most everything Blizzard, at this point.
Barding, stirrups, goblin gliders and such will be removed, if not immediately then next major patch or expac. In my opinion.
All the equipment for the mounts is to be made by professions, so…yes. But it will be “equipment” not “barding” as such. None of these things will stack anymore.
Most mounts will be able to use the equipment. For some reason, they have decided the Golem gets to keep its flower picking ability, but will not benefit from the equipment slot. This until they decide things have calmed down enough and then they will introduce the flower picking ability as equipment and take it away from the Golem. In my opinion.
Good question. We don’t know if the innate farming abilities of the druid will remain or not. If not, I’m assuming they will get to use the equipment slot. The slot is on us, after all, not the mount, so it would make sense.
My prediction is that DK’s, Shaman’s (Shamen?) etc. will lose their water walking abilities. Tanks will most likely keep their anti-daze mechanic because Blizz probably doesn’t want to mess with the code to identify when they are in a dungeon or raid and/or the outside world.
The equipment is per CHARACTER and applies to all the mounts on that character, with the noted exceptions. For now.
I’m going to stop commenting on this now. (And the crowd goes wild!) My final plea to the community is this:
IF you believe this is a very bad idea, please STOP trying to come up with alternative ways to make it work. This, I believe, is Blizzards master plan for these things going forward. Acceptance, compromise, capitulation. They introduce something the majority (lets just pretend for a moment that the majority actually gives a rat’s bum) thinks is bad, lets us start arguing about it, lets us beg for some changes to whatever it is, and finally releases it in a form that the majority will dislike, but deal with, probably what they originally proposed anyway.
If you think this is bad, JUST SAY NO! No equipment slot, no changes to WaterStrider, forget this and use the development time better somewhere else.
The thought that a single mount “dominates” the world is, frankly, ridiculous. Somebody way up the chain here suggested that 52% of players have this mount. I’'m not sure how he/she got that percentage but lets assume its true. That is hardly “dominating”. The simple fact, as I see it, is that introducing Mount Equipment will allow Blizz to create areas where you need both abilities (water walking and daze immunity, for example) but you only have one. This will ensure that you stay logged in longer. Which, as I believe we all know, is the metric they use to report to the shareholders about how wonderful the game is doing or will do (or whatever). The sole purpose of this change is to accomplish that. The only possible defence we, as a player base, have is to absolutely refuse it.
I’m not optimistic. I’m certain this is going through. Maybe if enough people complain on the PTR it will get changed, but I’m willing to bet that the Mount Equipment slot is coming, for sure. Because Ion says it must be so. Because a mosquito dominates World of Warcraft.

Is it really a tinfoil hat theory when it’s based on a clear pattern of behavior? I feel like this falls more into the “basic pattern recognition” category.
If you think this is bad, JUST SAY NO!
I think the system being proposed is bad, but I don’t think the concept of having water walking mounts other than the water strider is a bad idea. I don’t agree that the bug dominants and I don’t see the big deal even if it does, but I’d love for mounts to be more versatile and I’d love for a mount other than the ugly bug to have water walking.

Well, no. I was just preemptively trying to head off accusations of being a wild and crazy conspiracy theorist chicken little screaming that the sky is falling by admitting that I’m aware that’s how I may be coming across to some.
“the slot is unlocked account wide”.
This is what was stated in the preview video. At level 100+ on any character you unlock the mount equipment slot and that is unlocked for all characters on your account who are level 20+.
The actual equipment slot is 1 per character. Each character can equip 1 mount equipment item at a time. This means your Shaman could have anti-daze while your Warrior has water walking.
The equipment slot will give the effect to all mounts used on that character, with the exception of the Sky Golem.
This is all based on the assumption that the official Blizzard preview was accurate and that nothing changes between now and 8.2 release.
If someone in management would go through this thread and look at the highly voted posts, they would know how much they’re antagonizing their customers. A small, vocal minority of diehard white knights isn’t enough to financially sustain their product. They need to let go of the egocentrism and start actually listening to the customers.
If you think this is bad, JUST SAY NO! No equipment slot, no changes to WaterStrider, forget this and use the development time better somewhere else.
Well, it’s far to late to say “no” to the equipment slot since they already put all that effort into developing it. And there are some players that like the idea who would be more than a little annoyed if they announce something and then don’t implement it at all.
Personally, I wish they hadn’t wasted even a second of development time on this convoluted, unnecessary idea, but I discovered a long time ago that wishes only work in fairy tales.
They could still exempt the water strider from the system and leave it alone, just like the sky golem. If their real reason for doing this was because too many players use striders, they would have no excuse not to simply leave the strider out of the equipment “perk”. But we all know that’s not the reason they’re doing this.
They’re mad that players keep finding ways to avoid following the pathing they want us to take. They don’t want us to fly, and they don’t want us to take short cuts across the water. They’ve been trying to break the strider ever since it became the replacement for not having flight. Frankly, I find their attitude more than a little childish.

I just find it exhausting. I’m so tired of having an adversarial relationship with the developers of this game, and I’m so tired of feeling like I need to constantly be on guard if I want any of the aspects of the game I enjoy to remain.
And I don’t want to be one of those people in here extolling the virtues of FF14, but honestly…it’s so strange to step into a game and get the feeling that the devs just want me to play and enjoy myself, rather than micromanaging what I do and how I do it.
I have to buy it on EVERY SINGLE character i have if I want water walking.
That’s just speculation on one of several possibilities regarding how the BoA water walking/rep item will be implemented. A very real possibility, yes, but until 8.2 hits the PTR, it’s unverified, unless someone special pops in and lays out the full details before we get our hands on it.

Um…it’s not really “speculation.” Blizz flat out said the item will be sold at a discount for your alts if you already have a strider.
That is the problem in that they use this thinking to justify constant prunes trying to make standalone games every expansion. And systems are abandoned that could work while bad systems like mission tables persist.
That’s T&E’s take on it, which is what’s been floating around since their video is linked on Wowhead. I’ll wait until the PTR drops and hit it up. Not saying that it’s not exactly how this will all play out, but it may get changed for the better, or worse. You never can tell with Blizzard until you have access to it.
