Water Strider Discussion

If my water Strider is losing it WW DK’s and Shamans need to lose their WW ability too…its BS we worked hard for those mounts with WW.

I dont have the mount. But it shouldnt be changed when the water walking
was the reason most people even have it. Exempt it from using any mount
equipment, and keep it for the purpose so many earned it for.

Its only free on 1 character right? I will need to buy the equipment for all my alts which have already had free water walking for years.
Why are they making me pay for something i earnt years ago.
Not happy they are even considering this…

Big. Deal.

This isn’t an argument. I have 27 total characters across 5 servers, from level 12 to level 120. I have 4 120’s and am deciding on a 5th.

If you’re seriously arguing that I’m doing it wrong by playing alts, I direct you to the conversation about leveling, level squish, Allied Races, etc.

And yes, this will absolutely be a downgrade from what I have now. It will be an expensive headache to give my alts, present and future, the same ability they have now with the Waterstrider, and further, if they can exempt the Sky Golem from this they can exempt the Strider.

There’s no reason not to.

Well, considering that I, as an alchemist, can make you a water walking potion right at this moment that will give you a water walking buff which will work on every mount–or no mount if you just want to hoof it–your idea seems a tad redundant. And I’ve had this potion recipe for years–I can’t remember which expansion it appeared in first, but it was definitely a thing in Pandaria (but I think it’s even older than that). In other words, it pre-dates the striders.

Why would Blizzard want to punish some of the most “dedicated” customers in this way?

Great question! The people who have put in so much time, across so many characters get hit the hardest with this part of the system.

There seem to be so many other simple options to take when it comes to the strider issue. I find it hard to believe Blizzard thought this out all the way through and will make adjustments that won’t punish the more loyal customer base.

It’s not that you’re doing it wrong necessarily, but you should accept things like this as part of the burden of trying to manage that many characters.

I have to repurchase an ability I already earned, therefor, something indeed is being taken away. You can’t claim that removing an ability and making me buy it back is not taking something away. Or that this is a good precedent to set for the game going forward.

Yes, they give me one free piece of water walking equipment, so one character will not have to buy the ability back. But my other characters most certainly will.

Exempt the strider just like the sky golem, and I am fine with this change. But Blizzard will not do that because their real motive is to remove the strider’s ability, not to give us anything. The equipment slot is a smoke screen to blind players to the fact that they’re removing something we have and forcing us to buy it back. And their ploy clearly worked on you.

so basically all the time spent grinding faction, fishing countless fish (for faction) to obtain a water walking mount only to have the water walking ability removed for a socket? what purpose does the original quests have now? another ground mount that should walk on water but cannot until you install a gem in its socket?

ok. i see how that makes perfect sense.

not.

Couldn’t they just have every mount have it’s own equipment?

This way all the free water shoes you get across your characters could just be equipped on the strider and we’re back to normal and still able to use the equipment on various other mounts - INCLUDING the new water shoes.

It would take a while to get all of my mounts their water shoes - but it’s something to work towards.

To you, maybe it’s not. To others, it is. I’ll be honest, it’s not THAT big a deal to me, but I don’t like what it indicates as far as the direction the game is going.

Can you really not empathize with people who’d rather not lose one thing in order to gain another?

No. You don’t get to tell me how to play either. And you’re not getting Waterwalking without doing the grind. Go grind for the mount if you want it, stop asking for it to be taken away from others just so you can gloat.

There’s one from Northrend and one from Draenor. Looked it up yesterday so I can get my alchemists stocking up.

Edited to add that the Draenor one is level 90 or higher. The Northrend one doesn’t have a level limit, I don’t think. So you’re right; the one predates Pandaria.

In other words, you are doing it wrong. Also, there would be nothing to manage if this wasn’t a thing. I think was their point.

I say it’s the burden of the creators to get me back to paying and playing. There are things that play a part in that. This and these kinds of decisions are some of them. Will they accept that?

I’ve accepted their vision, and I’ve moved on to other things because I don’t like it.

IMO they are doing it wrong.

Fine with me. Sorry they don’t design the game around your ridiculous playstyle. If you have a relatively niche playstyle you can’t be surprised when it gets stepped on from time to time.

Wait…does that mean all the alts will have to buy the waterwalkinability? Are you f ing nuts? Who in the dev meeting thought this was a good idea? I grinded the rep to be able to use the mount on all alts at level 20 without cost.

If alts will now have to pay gold to buy something to allow the mount to walk on water then wtf is wrong with you? This is as fun as daze-dismount, Is that the same person who came up with this idea?

I grinded the rep because that it how you sold it to me. I don t want to have to pay or spend more time to get a benefit i already have. Make the current users grandfathered if you want but for crying out loud stop f ing removing stuff from the game.

If my alts can t use the water strider on water without having to spend a lot of gold then what is the point of playing when more crap like this will keep happening

What ridiculous niche playstyle are you referring to? Having an alt? Why is it ok to have this taken away, but my level 20 is Warlord of Draenor?

I’m a big proponent of the devs not being dbags and taking away things we’ve earned in a game we’ve paid for for years so we can re-earn it under the lie of “fresh and new content!” and deciding for us how to feel “immersed in a game.”

It’s been said for years that the only game that could kill WOW is WOW and sadly we’re seeing it more and more. Very few companies are so openly antagonistic or apathetic to their customer base and eventually it will dawn on them. Whether or not it will be too late by then is an interesting debate.
