Might as well get it now for the free item and discount on future purchases. At least that’s what I’d do if I didn’t already have it.
Edited to add that I’ve been working on fishing up lunkers to get the crimson one to have an option other than just the blue, but I guess I can put that goal on hold indefinitely. I certainly don’t like the look of the bug so that just dropped way down my list of priorities, so, err, thanks Blizzard for giving me an excuse to have one less thing in game to work on, I guess?
That’s probably what they mean. Yet another example of something you had to grind to earn and now is being taken away (or at least the functional value of it) so you can re-earn it. That’s how Ion rolls.
You respond with yes, when the answer is actually no.
You can not use barding or stirrups at level 20.
…which is why players without strider access, are going to be the ones who benefit the most from the proposed change.
This isn’t accurate.
You can not use barding or stirrups at level 20.
incorrect.
The mount equipment system doesn’t unlock until you have a level 100 character on the account.
Striders are obtainable before level 100.
Returning players from MoP, have their water walking removed, and can no longer access it.
strider is available to use at level 20… what’s the level 90 reference?
gonna need a source on that.
the 1k price tag which was referenced, was an estimate on the crafted items, not the vendor items.
Been giving this some thought. If they’re going to do a system like this, mounts need to have enough slots for all the equipment. As of right now, since I leveled all the professions for their perks such as barding, stirrups, hoofplates, etc and I can have all of those active at once and still use my waterstrider.
But only so long as barding, hoofplates, and stirrups are still in the game.
Most likely, in the usual “Blizz giveth, and Blizz taketh away (just that tiny bit more)” manner, we won’t see barding, hoofplates, or stirrups next expansion. We may even see the existing barding, hoofplates, and stirrups turned into grey items when 9.0 hits.
I think frost and snow type elementals would work nice - they freeze the water as they cross it.
Have more boat mounds, but make them able to actually float in the water.
There are also do exist cars and buses that can go through the water, so they could have made mounts that transform a bit when they reach the water.
A hover board that also works as a surf board would be cool.
Basically, of all the possible solutions, they choose the one that
a) Upsets people
b) Is Unnecessary
c) Is lazy
Worst of all, I strongly expect this is a start of a system where current aspects we associated with certain mounts: repair, transmog, and even flight, will all eventually turn into an item instead. I expect that to happen next expac.
Yes, it seems the real lesson they learned from “no flight going forward” and “we want to lock the water striders to work only in their native content” is that if they remove things in stages, they can convince a portion of their player base to defend whatever nerf they feel like implementing.
duh I completely forgot about boats hahaha. I guess after not getting any for any of the Kul Tiran factions I kinda forgot about them as an option I thought about freezing water but I think that might encroach too much on dks.
Jet skis might work too.
I’m sure our brilliant gnomes could come up with a bunch of stuff. And then goblins can have an exploding version ahem jk
[Devil’s advocate] But then people who want to min/max their mount abilities will still feel forced to use their striders for the water walking so they can use another ability on their other mounts. [/Devil’s Advocate]
(I don’t agree. I’m a big proponent of making a decision and accepting the consequences of that decision. But that’s what some folks have said to others who’ve proposed that solution. Figured I’d jump the gun and say it first. )
It will not literally function the same since right now part of the functionality is that it can be used on any character 20 or higher without any additional steps or expense. What’s being taken away is that part of its functionality.
