Water Strider Discussion

What’s a water strider? :^)

I hope your Path of Frost isn’t removed.

Why is water walking being treated differently than the ability to harvest while mounted?

My opinion:

  1. If you are going to removed baseline water walking from the water striders, then you also need to remove the baseline harvesting from the sky golems.

  2. If you are going to leave baseline harvesting while mounted on the sky golems, then you need to leave baseline water walking on the water striders.

Be consistent with how mounts that have special abilities are handled. Do it one way or the other for all mounts that have special abilities. Don’t treat this mount that has a special ability differently from how that mount with a special ability is treated based solely on what that ability is.

The issue isn’t that they’re making water-walking easier or whatever, it’s that they continue to make unnecessary changes under the guise of “new content.” There’s literally no reason to remove the feature from those mounts just so you can re-earn it again. They could easily have implemented this new feature and left the striders alone. But for some reason the current devs feel the need to fix what’s not broken and put on a “feature-tax” with their content.

Now this is by no means game-breaking or unsub-worthy; in fact it’s pretty trivial. But it goes to a pattern of events and instances of head-scratchingly unnecessary behaviour.

Uhhh no they couldn’t. I won’t explain to you why since it’s been pointed out in hundreds of posts in multiple threads.

So they just aren’t that good at programming?

If it’s a programming issue then they shouldn’t put the feature in at all. It’s not like the playerbase was screaming for it or saying “water striders aren’t fun, let’s change that.”

And even then, that’s not really the point. It’s more the “change what’s working because reasons” thing that a lot of us don’t understand. Especially when there is so much more to fix.

I believe the argument is that people would still be “forced” to use the water strider, so that they could use another equipment on their other mounts. If anyone has any incentive to use the water strider, it’s not broken enough.

I just realized I have been playing the game wrong for years. Apparently the Water Strider is the most awesome optimal mount in the game and I should have been obsessively min-maxing my travel by only ever using that mount and then raging about how it invalidates all my other mounts.

Not sure what game everyone else has been playing but I thought I was playing an RPG and trying to have an adventure. My goblin hunter is mech themed. I use mech battle pets, hunter pets (ro-sheep and ro-bunny), and mech mounts like the motorbike and mim’s head.

Mind blown. Hold me mommy Blizz, I need an adult!

I can understand that, but the issue is that until flying is enabled, no one is going to utilize anything besides the water-walking option because it’s so valuable. And given the new zones are heavily aquatic-themed, I imagine there’s a high probability of needing water walking.

The zones are also mob-dense, which means water walking will often not work by the time you reach water (remember, any hit, no matter how minor, breaks the water walking passive), and you’ll have to re-mount anyway.

I would also point out that if “everyone feels forced to use the water strider” is a genuine problem, then there’s a good chance that as soon as “everyone feels forced to choose water walking over the other abilities” is deemed a problem, they’ll simply remove that piece of equipment in the name of “more choices.”

Agreed.

I think the devs focus on too many issues that are non issues. Players can show restraint and make choices. Devs don’t need to force choices.

Agreed, which again begs the question of “why bother?” It’s not a bad feature by any means, just seems like an unnecessary one.

The fact that it was implemented as an equipment feature rather than a “mount family” system or talent, tells me it was done this way to allow them to easily remove abilities they don’t want available in the future. Same reason they moved character talents from ‘things we learn’ to ‘things our weapons/armor can do’.

and just one more reason to stay unsubbed.

Yep, makes sense. This group of devs seems fairly obsessed with forcing people to play their way and in essence re-imagining WOW while getting rid of things people actually like. I wonder if Rian Johnson is on the team now?

I wonder if Blizz will make some change to remove Daze protection from Tanks that wouldn’t cripple them while actually Tanking.

When this change comes out Blood Dk’s will be have built in anti Daze and on demand water walking meaning they can just slot the slow fall equipment to have all 3 at once.

i was about to start farming this thing again. I guess I should wait

oh god yes. So much THAT!
Cant even farm a few frikking nodes without every stinking creature in the tri zone area having to fight to the death for it.
THIS is what a dying game with boring content looks like.

To be fair it’s been that way since Vanilla.
