It isn’t permeant. Since the mount equipment was a flop, they could very well take it away. If they keep it, high chances are they will eliminate the water-walking shoes come 9.0.
You are, but I and others are not, so yes, they are selling it back to us. When I make a new character, I have to take the time to get on another 100+ toon, go to Pandaria and buy a set of shoes to send it to the new toon.
In a way, they did. Many of us grinded the rep for a reason. Blizzard has now made it so we have to pay to use what was already earned.
Fact remains that to (re)enable water walking on my alts I now have to switch to my main, get TO pandaria, travel across almost the entire length of the continent to get to the vendor to buy the stupidly UNIQUE 10gold piece of garbage necessary to replicate what I ALREADY HAD before they screwed things up.
And, of course, the trip is longer because the ONLY way to get to pandaria for Horde is now further away from the vendor than ever.
And why? Who knows. Who cares about continuity or immersion… it’s all “It’s the way it is because devs threw a dart at a decision board… get used to it or go away.”
Well, in 5 days, I’m in the “Going away” group when my sub expires. Enjoy this mess if you can. After well over a decade, I just can’t anymore.
Is it conjecture? Take a look at the price of shoes on the AH. It is also not irrelevant to the discussion. When they remove the shoes, or remove the equipment all together, we will be stuck with zero water walking.
Just take a look at the past and you can easily predict the future.
Because I want to maintain my striders water walking ability, I am being forced to purchase shoes. If I do not purchase them, then my strider will no longer have its ability.
Best of luck to you. Classic has done a great job of weaning me off of retail. It is so nice not to have the slot machine, watered down game that retail has become.
I wish I had your optimism Nihilis, but unfortunately I can see Blizz gating the next set of equipment (since the current set will be absolutely useless when the new expac comes out) behind Pathfinder 2 or some other meta achieve just like flying.
And speaking of flying, since Blizz likes to retroactively mess with mount abilities, I wonder when flying will be removed and made into mount equipment. If they get away with messing with one mount, what’s to stop them from going after others?
You think the Traveller’s yak or the Mammoth will be safe? I just don’t have that much confidence in the way Blizzard does things.
Ofc people are still here, they’re pissed and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t agree with them. Blizz should have just treated the water strider like the sky golem, let it keep it’s ability and just remove the mount equipment slot.

BEFORE the change ALL of my 20-99 level characters could use the strider on water FOR FREE because i DID THE GRIND for the mount !
NOW THEY ALL HAVE TO PAY for it!
This is wrong, I worked very hard everyday during MoP for the Anglers reputation to get the Water Strider, Stop taking things away from us that we earn with our time and effort! … this mount should have been left untouched and as is!
Now we either have walking on all mounts or no water walking on any of them if we use any other equipment and this is not right for those who spent time to get the water strider
Since I spent the time to get the Anglers reputation, I should be able to walk on water with the water strider at anytime and use dazed on all my other mounts! but nope, content removed years later like it doesn’t even matter and now players don’t trust that you’ll value their time and effort in the future

We all did the grind for WWing that the Strider had INHERENTLY and WERE USING IT before the change WITHOUT PAYING gold for it on characters level 20-99.
NOW we have to PAY for WWing…i know because I JUST paid 50gold AGAIN for a lowbie character to have WWing …something I HAD BEFORE WITHOUT paying for it just a couple months ago on those same lowbie characters.
Id say just stop talking until you have actually READ how things were before and how they are now.
