Just horrible.
It used to be… grind the rep, buy the mount, all characters that can use the mount can water-walk.
Now? You have to go through the ridiculous hassle of buying these tokens for EVERY character you have (because let’s face it, why the $%* would you grind rep on an alt for a faction with whom you’re already exalted when you don’t have to?)
It SHOULD be this: Buy the token with your exalted character, and it becomes like a mount equipment heirloom for your entire account.
I’m a little miffed they took away water walking from a “”“WATER STRIDER”"" cough , but at least they replaced it with a mechanism for all mounts to water-walk.
BUT if you try a different piece of mount equipment on a character, you will have to travel back to the Anglers to re-purchase the mount shoes. WTF?
If you take something away from players, you really ought to replace it with something better, and this is worse imo because of all the needless speed bumps players have to go through to retain/get back the functionality one simple mount provided in the first place with no red tape or hoops to jump through (besides grinding the %$$#* rep in the first place).
Also, say you have 10 alts. That’s 450 gold to buy the equipment for all 10, not to mention the time to mail them to each char. Just stupid Blizz, just plain stupid.
And they are UNIQUE!!! Which was a nice surprise, so you can only carry one at a time. Completely ridiculous.
Yeah, that was an unpleasant change; when I first checked it on the PTR, I was able to go to the Anglers vendor, buy a stack of mount shoes, and pop up to the mailbox to send them off to alts. Making them unique is just adding insult to injury.
I went there once and sent them to my alts so that they never had to go back. I didn’t like the back and forth process of clicking on the vendor and then mailing it, but it is done and I never have to do it again.
All this when they could have just left our strider alone!
But then they could not add flying mobs to daze and dismount use so we would have to destroy the water walking and put in anti daze.
But yea, they should have left it alone.
Just wondered, I’m I still making the wrong choice by choosing to use the water strider to walk on water? Is it still the the wrong mount to use? is Blizzard going to completely remove it from the game if it is still the wrong choice?
after spending some time mucking around with these floaties, they’re completely useless, and don’t function anything like the strider did.
i’m normally fairly chill when i’m just out plonking around, but this change is rage inducing.
…a mob which booped me 2 minutes ago in another zone, shouldn’t be forcing me to dismount/remount to regain water walking.
You’ve been bad. And now you must be punished!
But water walking is such a super-duper OP ability they have to nerf it.
I agree, the water walking does not work the same. There are lots of spots in the water in Nazjatar that doesn’t allow you to waterwalk. And the aggro and leash increase is crazy.
I wonder if this was part of their plan on weaning us off of water walking. Make it so annoying that people won’t use it, and then they won’t miss it when it is removed next xpac.
Now that it’s in the game, and as someone who worked my butt off for my strider, I’ll say, on the one hand, yeah, it’s convenient. But on the other… it’s just SILLY. I mean, it makes SENSE for a waterstrider to water-stride. Having my stallion do it? Just… why? I mean, if they’d gone with your suggestion- invent mount equipment we could use on a mount-by-mount basis, and leave water straiders alone, I’d be thrilled. That way, I could leave my horses and dinos and meadowstompers all sinking like they SHOULD, and still have my strider doin’ his stridey thing. But I’m not completely outraged- just baffled and annoyed.
That was definitely true for water striders. One ‘boop’ and you’ve lost the buff until the next re-mount. Even if it was 2 minutes and in another zone ago.
ETA: Which is why I didn’t make the striders my ‘all the time’ ground mounts. Why bother if I’m gonna have to remount most of the time when I need to cross water? I just let [Summon Random Favorite Mount] figure it out as needed.
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve fallen through the water with my Artifact Fishing Pole since the change. Heck, today my Anglers RAFT fell through the water and I had to jump up multiple times to get high enough above the surface that it reappeared.
I think they’ve changed something fundamental in the code that controls all water-tension based abilities, not just the mounted water walking. sigh
My problem was more that I didn’t want to be on the top of the water with the fishing pole… was often faster to be in fish form than running unmounted. =)
I’d say that 99% of the time when I ‘fell through’ with strider, fishing pole or raft… it was always because I angled the camera a little too steeply. Looking down = dive dive dive!
umm… i don’t recall that.
surely it wasn’t that long ago…?
am i remembering wrong?
from what i recall, it would regain ww again once you were out of combat… without the need to dismount/remount.
I could care less about dazing. I am pretty good at meandering through mobs, but if one gets me, I kill it in 3 strikes. I took the free water boots or whatever they are and that’s it. I will never switch to any other mount equipment. And, I still use the water strider
If it did, I wasn’t patient enough to wait around for it to re-enable itself. It certainly wasn’t instant or less than 10 seconds from getting out of combat, or I would have noticed it.
If you took a zeppelin or maybe got switched to another shard while out of combat, it might have forgotten the buff was dispelled.
That was the original strider behavior, but they changed it in Legion after they kindly relented on their plan to make the striders only work in the zones where we originally purchased them.
Did not forget about this stupid change Blizz. Give us back our water strider, we earned it.
And besides mount equipment is useless Don’t even have anything equiped on most character.
What was it for again, oh yea just to take the water strider.
