Water Strider Discussion

But that would not make people be careful of what they ask for, on the forums.

What Blizzard did has actually been asked for, a lot. People asked for the ability to make any mount water walking, if I recall they asked that it be an “item” or something that they could use to make any mount water walking. So what we got, is almost exactly what I saw in those threads.

There always has to be a catch.

Blizzard’s “monkey’s paw” design philosophy must always be kept in mind when we ask for things.

what’s really incredibly sad is the amount of people complaining about being given more choice.

Thank you, a person with common sense who understands simple logic.

Literally nothing has been taken away, only expanded and the idiot soup that is GD just spams: :rage: rabble, rabble, rabble :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

The ability for characters to have a water walking mount without having to first buy an item and send it to each individual character is what’s been taken away. That may or may not be a big deal, but let’s not pretend there’s no loss at all.

Are you stupid or something? You get to walk on water AND get the other mount glyph which you can put on as an anti daze glyph.

Then if you are a DK tank, you have no daze passively + water walking + an extra mount glyph…

The idiocy of GD is simply astonishing today.

Really? So it boils down to “I have to buy this item” that is your complaint here??

Are you serious?

How can you not appreciate being able to water walk on whichever mount you want or have anti-daze on whichever mount you want? Oh but oh no…I HAVE TO BUY IT?!? WHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

^that’s what you all sound like right now.

Because I care less about which mount has the ability to water walk than I do the fact that I can easily and without extra steps use that ability on all of my alts that are level 20 or higher.

I understand that other people may have the opposite view and would rather pay per character to use water walking on any mount.

I would like both options to be valid that way no one has to lose anything and everyone wins. One way to accomplish that would be for water striders to be treated like Sky Golems and keep their water walking ability but not be able to equip any other mount equipment items. Then I could use my water strider on my alts without having to buy items for each and you’d have the option to buy an item and use water walking on any mount.

You sound like someone who only cares that you’re getting what you want. Me, I’d rather there be valid options for as many people as possible.

The item is account wide. Once used it applies to all characters. Furthermore, if you had the strider, you get the item mailed to you for free. That’s right! No shipping and handling either (offer only stands within Azeroth, Outlands, and Argus)!

Source for this info, please?

How would a sub 100 toon use the item if they don’t have access to the system?

Edit: Disregard. I think I may have misread the information and can see how it can be taken different ways.

linking… again

No need to link that article for me. I’ve been linking that for other folks. Where does that article say that once used, the water walking item applies to all characters? That’s what I was asking since the person I quoted said that was the case (and then recanted).

Ah, I see where I misunderstood. That said, if you had it before, you’ll have it mailed to you. I would assume this would be on all characters, but if it isn’t that would be dumb. Though I doubt it would be mailed to new characters. That said still, you aren’t losing anything now. I’d be for allowing it to keep its ability if it can’t be affected by other equipment. So you can’t be daze free and riding on water. Still this system as a whole is something I agree with and am willing to sacrifice a strider for it (though I don’t have it now, I have almost all of my tokens needed to have it…)

If you have the water strider mount already, you get one mailed to you and more can be bought at a discount. The item is BoA and is destroyed if you change abilities. The effect is character specific and I’m not taking anything for granted. It hasn’t been stated outright that the freebie will be mailed to all characters.

I currently have 40 alts level 20 or higher. If the cost of the item is 1,000 gold, which is the current estimate, that’s 40k, which is not a trivial amount of gold for me. And that only supplies each character with one item. If any want to switch, that’s another 1k.

What I’m losing is the ability to have water walking on all level 20 or higher alts for free.

Gonna post my thoughts here from another thread.

A water strider should not require equipment to walk on water. You talk about the fantasy aspect of things, etc., so why would this creature, that walks on water normally, now need equipment to do so? You got rid of Frostfire Bolt because it didn’t make sense. You’ve made numerous changes on the grounds that they didn’t make sense. This doesn’t make sense either.

Because I already can.

My issue:

They said they’re doing this because Water Striders have become too common. Then why, pray tell, did they mention Sky Golems as an example of a mount that won’t work with these equipment?

Sky Golems are MUUUUUUUUUCH more common than Water Striders. They are bought from the Auction House and are used by pretty much every Herbalist that isn’t a druid.

Why are Sky Golems keeping their unique ability? If anything, Sky Golems should be stripped of this ability as well, and IT should be made into equipment as well. But no, they’re PURPOSELY DOING IT JUST TO WATER STRIDERS. Just like Shaman and Death Knights can walk on Water, Druids can herb while ‘mounted’.

What’s the harm in retaining the Water Walking capability of Water Striders, like they’re retaining the Herb Picking Capabilities of Sky Golems, but simply not allowing it to work with the no-daze skill of the other equipment, etc.?

Tank characters will still have no need for the daze equipment, and will likely want to use water walking gear. Shaman, Death Knights, or hell, just people sick of water striders, or don’t want to grind rep.

People who grinded the rep should have a choice in the matter to keep using the Water Strider or not. We should not be forced.

Otherwise, they need to make this equal. Strip the Sky Golem/Recolor of their Herbing While Mounted skill, and make it an equipment as well. As well as any other mount with a special skill.

(This is from someone with all of them)
