This.
Or hey, here’s a novel idea… actually put some of that creativity they’re applying towards breaking yet another thing, and put it into …ugh…“creating” other mounts that walk on water, or slow fall, or reduce daze effects.
Then allow the players to earn them.
On the PTR, yes. Live will not give every alt over 100 a free equipment, only characters exalted with Anglers will receive one. Better hurry if you want to ensure every character is exalted and over 100 before the hammer drops.
one-free isn’t worth lifting a finger for.
The rep vendor is SUPPOSED to sell BoA equipment for cheap, so even if only your level 100+ alts get the one free, at least you can send the rest one from whichever alt has angler rep.
Assuming you have the RIGHT water strider, not the wrong strider.
Says the wpvper. You don’t actually have any content progression (LFR BoD 8/9 Normal BoD 6/9 0/9 LFR-Mythic CoS is close enough to no progression as makes no difference) on the toon you are on so I have to assume its your only toon and its sole purpose in life is to go to traditional horde leveling areas to grief others. And each and every one of your “arguments” would only be argued by someone who tries to gain an advantage by the blue nerf bat. Your arguments are old stale invalid without merit or logic and your ulterior motive sticks out like a sore thumb.
And the fact that Blizzard isn’t implementing the mount equipment system this way, making it mount specific and account wide instead of character specific across all mounts for that character, should tell you a lot about why Blizzard is implementing it the way they are. It’s not about giving players more choice; it’s about removing choice and making travel more cumbersome.
There are so many ways that Blizzard could decrease player dependence on the water strider while at the same time increasing player choice and agency, if that were really what they wanted to do.
I, for one, will be filing a bug report, should the mount that I worked so hard to get, lose the ability to walk on water. If everyone who has a water strider were to do the same, it would communicate the level of blunder that this plan is perpetrating.
I am still angry, I suppose, that the water walking ability of my Dread stead was taken away. But far more egregious things have been done, so I guess that is old news.
That is actually a fantastic idea. And something these devs will never do because it makes way too much sense and would actually add something worth putting effort toward into the game.
They don’t know how to add things that make sense. They seem to only know how to break things that work fine and/or remove things for no reason at all.
Resorting to personal attacks isn’t an effective argument. You don’t even know me but you dug through my profile to dig up something to attack me with since you can’t refute any of my actual points. Bravo for that.
FYI, I’m an RPer - and I do happen to do a lot of WPvP because my roleplay is military in nature (it should be pretty obvious based on my guild name, transmog, and that I play on one of the largest RP realms). WPvP and griefing are not the same thing btw - you come off as completely ignorant when you take that clueless position.
To clarify - I choose not to use a Water Strider because of my RP. It is completely immersion-breaking for me to to ride my character around on a huge bug when there are perfectly good Kul Tiran chargers available. I like this change because now I can water walk on my Kul Tiran charger without carrying a bunch of water walking potions with me in order to get the same effect that I could have by simply riding an ugly water strider at the cost of my RP immersion. I had thought at the beginning of the expansion that it would have made sense for Kul Tiran blacksmiths to be able to craft Stormsteel hoofplates that would enable water walking - given the nautical nature of the island nation. This is close enough to that, so I’ll take it.
You can still enjoy your ugly bug - it’s just not mechanically superior anymore.
It absolutely is - if it’s due to a magical effect.
A water strider’s ability to walk on water isn’t due to magic, it’s due to it being a water strider, but real water striders are able to walk on water because they are so light weight that they do not break the surface tension of the water. That’s the scientific explanation of how water striders in the real world walk on water. This is impossible with the huge size of the water striders in WoW, much more so with them carrying a rider - so yeah, magic is a much more believable reason than this bug not breaking surface tension.
Can you show me where this is specifically stated?
I mean if Nat Pagle can make a change to striders that is going to change every water strider in the world and NOT just successive generations, I would have to say its magical in nature.
It’s not stated one way or the other, but it’s not difficult to surmise that the fact that Blizzard initially went with a water strider as the model for the water-walking mount is because they were drawing a parallel to the physical science behind how water striders in the real world walk on water.
A fair price for alts to get it is FREE considering they all have it for free now at level one and you’re already changing that to level 20. I shouldn’t have to pay for something I’ve had for free for 6+ years (your number).
I shouldn’t have to choose between water walking, something I already have available to all of my characters, and something else. I should be able to keep what I earned!
You guys need to stop taking things away from players just because. There is zero reason for this change.
I use it when I want to cross large areas of water. Small ones I use the potion or levitate (as a Priest), or I just swim. But I use it often. Probably just as often as I use the Grand Exp. Yak for TMog or repairs. I use it when it’s needed and I don’t use it when it’s not.
I has specific functionality that I don’t need all the time. I use it when it’s needed.
How is there a “wrong choice” when you can choose any mount you want to ride? We can use the mount we want then change when we need a “special mount”.
We won’t “easily be able to keep” anything! We will have to choose between something we already had and something else. Which equipment is better for what we’re currently doing? Then the “freebie” from rep is gone because we’ll need “no daze” or “slow fall” for some area, then we’ll have to buy a new WW equipment piece, then a new “no daze” then a new WW, then a new “slow fall”, then a new… and so on and so on forever.
Nothing about this system is “easy”.
How so? Please explain how being able to cross large bodies of water with a mount is “stronger” than being able to farm materials? I mean, seriously? Do you even play this game?
Feedback seems to be overwhelmingly negative toward this change. But, like everything else you guys dig your heels in on, nothing we say will make any difference because you don’t actually care about our feedback.
If they want to allow people only one equipment perk at a time, perhaps put an infinite, BoA Water Walking shoes behind Anglers rep for 40g.
It would be an inconvenience to need to buy one and mail it to your alt, but at most you’d need to spend 1,960g to outfit an entire account and it would still fall into line with Blizzard’s desire to restrict our choice to one perk at a time.
You have new mail.
Subject: Dear Water Strider Owner
Body: “Overuse of Blight has dissolved the special magic on Water Striders’ feet around the world. To help with this problem, the angler’s have added new water walking equipment your Heirloom Collection tab.”
I would accept this. I would be willing to buy the other types of equipment to use as I wanted to if I had a water walking piece of equipment that was not consumable and BoA.
