Water Strider Discussion

Dont forget Shaman. I know its hard because Blizzard cant even remember they have them as a class…

haha That’s true, but Shaman only have the water walking. They don’t have the anti-daze. Although my goblin shaman has rocket boost and is an engineer so she has a glider and nitro-boost so her ghost wolf can speed along pretty fast if needed.

Exactly! Someone gets it.

Well, since that’s exactly what most everyone here is saying (and you seem to be ignoring) AND it’s exactly what they are doing with the “herb/mining” mounts (the golems)…

YES! That is exactly the suggestion.

But… but… class fantasy!! Certain classes need to feel special. I don’t know why the “x class needs this to be unique” statement comes into all of these crappy design decision discussions from the devs. Like mages with the portal removal.

I’ve not ignored it at all.

As to the lack of mount flavor (only two waterwalking mounts) and leaving aside that all hovering mounts should be able to hover over water as easily as land, I will never forget the disappointment when I finally claimed the riverbeast mount in Draenor and when I rode it into a river, it didn’t know how to swim.

I’ve had a great many straws piled on me. The addiction remains, but when the straw gets mixed with a lot of bullspit it makes a wall of bricks I don’t particularly want to cross. If they do this, and when they come out with mount equipment required to fly, I’m going to put it on the sea tortoise and fly with it.

Yes they can.

Make the mount equipment system a mount-by-mount system per toon or per account. Give the strider a mount slot and PRELOAD it with water walking. You log in and nothing has changed (aside from wether or not they are using this to mask stripping bouncy from Water Striders).

This way if you want water walking on your 10 favourites mounts, you can. Then you can go slap some parachutes on a bunch of other mounts. And anti daze on a bunch of other ones.

Real player choices. Nothing has to be taken away. This would be more like the specialized GW2 mounts which sounds a lot more fun. By making it per toon blizzard can make it cost players more gold (they seem to like that). Per account would be cheaper for us but some people would complain they want mount x to WW on toonA and antidaze on toonB.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, yes you can swap out that preloaded WW slot on the strider for people who want to have an anti daze strider. There I fixed it.

Ah,actually it is there in the mount page.

Leave my water bug alone or I shall sneeze on you!!

Warlock’s [Demon Skin] talent was pretty awesome dismount/daze protection.

But on PTR in Najzatar, it’s like it’s not even there anymore.

Don’t be surprised if your own innate no-daze protection suddenly starts failing you regularly.

Tooo all the skills I’ve lost before…
Who traveled in and out my door.
I’m glad you came along I dedicate this song to all the skills I’ve lost before.
The wheels of time are always turning.
And every time I turn around.
Some wow skills always burning.
And they just burn it to the ground.

It’s a simple problem to solve:

Add more mounts that float, exactly like striders for diversity.

Give all mounts in the “Floating” family an “on-land movement penalty” (like 15%).

Using ‘water walking’ mount equipment negates the on-land penalty and lets other mounts ‘float’. Making it both a cosmetic and functional bonus.

Let mounts in the ‘floating’ family benefit from whatever OTHER mount equipment is slotted. (no-daze / safe fall / speed boost)

If a mount, like The Dreadwake, can fly, then the movement penalty only applies while it’s used as a ground mount.

Solves: 'Striders are unfair and I don’t have one, wah!"
Solves: “Everyone’s ALWAYS on water striders, wah!”
Solves: “Don’t charge me for what I already have!”
Solves: “Boring, no new features or innovations, yawn!”
Solves: “Not enough gold-sinks / wow-token sales are down!”
Solves: “Stupid boat doesn’t even float.”
Solves: “Water striders can’t stride on water?!”

Perhaps instead of lecturing from a position of ignorance, you could maybe read a little more of the thread?

  1. The slot isn’t account wide. Unlocking it is.

  2. Using your alt with Angler rep, you have to go to MoP and buy BoA equipment for your alts under level 100 because they’re not getting mailed their “one free”.

  3. If you have the Crimson strider from your garrison, not the Azure strider from MoP, you’re Split-out-of-luck. No water walking ‘first one free’ for you. Too bad.

  4. If you use mount equipment, it’s INFERIOR to water striders because ANY falling damage breaks the buff and you must remount. (not true with striders).

  5. Remounting while swimming doesn’t work with ~40% of the mounts. They’re too big to jump back on the surface. More if you’re a big race like troll/tauren/draeni, less if you’re tiny like goblins/gnomes.

  6. Ain’t NOBODY gonna bother equipping water walking because everyone will NEED no-daze in the new zones until they have flying. After, they’ll NEED no-daze and gliders or safe-fall because there’s stuff flying around THAT WILL DISMOUNT YOU and make you fall, probably to your death.

This is the illusion of choice to soften the fact that Blizzard is forcing us to give up the water walking THAT WE EARNED.

I think the general consensus is to leave Waterstriders alone and exempt them from any equipment buffs.

Oh look, my flying mounts have infinite duration flying that I don’t need to restock on and drink.

Oh look, my ground mounts have infinite duration speed boost that I don’t need to restock on and drink.

It’s “intellectually dishonest” of you to presume that water walking ‘needs to be different’ from either of those.

You should dig up my post. You argument doesn’t hold water(pun intended) when you can craft hundreds of them easily and all you have to do is log in visit your garrison once a week and buy the needed mats.

4627 is the post number. Ill even be so generous to point out where. Since you apparently love the idea of all your input and choice being taken from you.

Oh I know, I did it to see if they had made it that all characters on your account got one when I heard that this was happening was all.
