No you can’t have 50 characters on one realm …you can only have 18. " A player may create up to eighteen characters per realm, with a maximum number of fifty characters per account. Once a player has selected a realm, an option to create a character is available."
I say if they take away my Striders WW then DK’s and shamans should lose their spell ability too…
This was posted 3/1/2019:
Now, instead of the current 18 character limit per realm, you can create all your account’s 50 characters in the same realm.
This change was made in order to support the ever-increasing number of Allied Races and for those who’d like to keep all their characters in the same realm.
Yes, I did read it wrong. But in my opinion this is worse.
If I want Water Walking, I can have every mount do that until I want “no-daze”, then I have to put new equipment on until I want water walking, then I have to put new equipment on if I want slow fall, then I have to re-equip water walking, then no daze, then water walking, then…
How anyone is okay with this idiotic system that gives us nothing we don’t already have is beyond me.
Use the Elixer of Water Walking if you don’t want to obtain the mount. Goblin Gliders, or any one of several easy to obtain toys, will allow you to slow fall (if you don’t have it as an ability on your character already)…oh! and there is now a potion for that also. Pay attention to where you’re going if you don’t want to be dismounted by mobs that can daze you.
This new system is unnecessary and serves only to break things that work fine as is.
I’m NOT okay with having them sell me something I already have after taking away and/or breaking what I already had. I’m pretty sure I said this.
My “that’s what the water walking potion is for” comment was intended for those who don’t have one (or both) Water Striders who want the functionality without the mount.
The Elixir of Water Walking allows one to “walk on water” (or “ride on water”, it effects the player and any mount they are using) for 10 minutes.
I’m not quite sure how anything I said would lead anyone to believe that I am okay with this new equipment system since I pretty specifically said that I don’t like it.
The argument is that “all players should have the ability”… Well “all players DO have the ability” currently, with or without the mount, since the Water Walking potion gives the same functionality to any mount that the Water Strider has, albeit for a short duration, but a short duration is all that’s really needed in most instances.
Equipment is fine if it’s used to add functionality that doesn’t exist. It’s NOT okay if it breaks current functionality for no reason other than “because reasons”.
Leave the Striders be. Keep the potion for water walking that is already available. Add equipment for crazy folks to want to jump off mountains and get mad they died and to help with dazing.
There is absolutely zero reason to break Water Striders or to expand their functionality to all mounts. They aren’t making equipment to match the Golem’s ability to extract materials (herb, mine, etc.) without dismounting their rider are they? NOPE! So we know they have the ability to leave the Strider’s functionality as is, they just won’t.
I’ve defended this game, and these devs, through all their strange, often completely ridiculous, decisions. But even I am about at my wits end with these people. This could be my proverbial “straw”.
Yeah, and make it like war mode, you have to be in a rested area, or even a capital hub to change it out. that would give bliz their desire to not have us change it all the time on the fly but make a choice when we leave.
Are we going to get an answer for anything here? What’s the decision for the water strider after all this feedback? Why is the water walking on the PTR such garbage? Why is the mount system lackluster and lacking the customization it should have?
Or are the devs going to just ignore that the forums exist? Are we just playing the game wrong (again)?
It’s probably to control movement a bit more, ye. Too much convenience with movement makes the world seem smaller and means you’ll engage less with it.
This is a lame argument, The world feels a lot smaller if you just stay in the city or just do the world quests that are closest to the flight plan because travel is so tedious. As of Now flying from flight plan to flight plan and doing the quests closest to them is so much easier than running thru endless, useless mobs just to get to what you want.
I now have the azure water strider which took a decent amount of time and time walking currency to get.
Those with the strider shouldn’t just be given a pair of water walking shoes and a discount on future purchases. The mount should have water walking baseline.
This is a lame argument,
I don’t think so. If you find yourself high in the air above any city you get a sense of the size of the city but you bypass literally all of it over the rooftops.
Similarly, not having to wade through a body of water at a slower pace means that the water ought not even be there. You’re running across it as though it were land. Water walking exists for some classes, but that’s a class perk much like portals and slowfall for mages or levitate for priests.
A water walking mount is incredibly useful but I can see the value in reigning back a bit on it, if that’s what they’re doing.

Did they just make some revelation that water walking mounts walk on water “as though it were land”? Because we’ve had this mount for YEARS and there’s been no issue with the mechanics of it.
Water walking exists for some classes,
Water walking has existed for every class and every mount since at least Burning Crusade. Water walking potions can used by everyone and when mounted on any mount. I still have a stack in my bags on most every character. Some of them from the fishing daily outside of Shatt some i made in my garrison. Why do they feel the need to break the water strider to give every one something that is already in the game?
Didn’t they try taking it away once before? I’m sure they’ve thought about it.
Maybe to make it more concise, or more fun for people.
Yes, it definitely makes the game more fun for me when the mount I have that walks on water no longer walks on water unless I pay for an item to make it do so.
What’s your suggestion then? Leaving water striders alone and not giving them an equipment slot?
This would be my preference. They are doing it for the Sky Golem so there’ s no real reason they can’t do it for the strider. If I want to have anti-daze or slow fall or whatever else on my mounts I can use a different mount for that. But the mount that was actually made expressly for water walking should continue to be able to do that without some piece of equipment.
That seems like a reasonable middle ground, it would just make people who enjoy the water strider as a design unable to partake in the equipment system.
What’s your suggestion then? Leaving water striders alone and not giving them an equipment slot?
Yes, that would be great.

Would not bother me at all, Lock it behind a small quest line so the people that want the change can get it and those of us who don’t can just leave our mounts alone.

Yes, this.
