Exactly. Those of us who grinded out the rep and then purchased the mount did so for a purpose. They are removing that from the game.
And they could make it so that that mount equipment must be crafted by a profession using super rare soulbound items that can only be found in heroic raids.
Imagine how much such pieces of mount equipment would cost.
What about when they decide to introduce multi-seater mount equipment and remove the ability to carry more than 1 person from all of the multi-seater mounts? Would you find that to be acceptable as well?
Trust me. People thought it was dramatic when they talked about having to buy your flight training once you hit a certain level. Then guess what? They gated flying behind Pathfinder, but even better, not until well into the actual x-pac!
It depends. Most multiseater mounts are visually designed to accommodate more players. I don’t want to be crammed into one horse saddle with two of my friends.
If it’s cheap enough, I probably would welcome the extra choice in customization.
Agreed - not sure about ESO. But FFXIV and GW2 seem pretty nice. And I hear the mounts in GW2 are already way more engagiing and less restrictive. Plus - their engine makes the game look pretty cool in general.
I just don’t feel like I’m being robbed of anything. I can still use my water strider to stride across water if I choose for a minimal fee once in a while, or I can do it on any other mount.
I don’t particularly have it in for you guys though, so I wouldn’t care so much if they left water striding on.
Even if you ignore the fact that moving intrinsic abilities to an extrinsic system - one that can easily be removed or zone/level limited - is a poor trade for the players, the version of water walking we’re getting from the equipment is objectively worse than the strider’s current water walking ability.
Currently, the strider’s water walking breaks on damage from hostile mobs, but not fall damage; I can jump from the deck of the ship in Boralus, take damage landing on the water, and still have water walking. The PTR version of water walking breaks on any damage, including fall damage, meaning that even the kind of small drops off ledges or rocks that players routinely ignore will cause us to need to remount before we can use our water walking.
I think the piece that you’re not grasping is the fact that once something becomes a consumable, it can very easily be taken away.
The reason they have never taken water-walking away from the strider was because people complained about it the last time they tried. All that we want to do is to prevent that from happening.
No one wants to mess with your mount equipment. We want the mounts with special abilities to be exempt and kept the way they are.
Most people feel robbed when something you already have is taken from you and then you are given the option to buy it back. Makes zero sense. And it opens the door for this to happen with a lot of other things in the game.
Again, we still have no confirmation that the price will remain at 40g, that might be only for the PTR. They stated in their live stream that they expected it to cost 1k g. So unless they confirm that 40g price we can’t simply take that as fact.
But also again, why make someone pay for something across multiple characters that they already had to begin with.
Well, thanks for at least bumping the post count in this thread. While I don’t understand why ANYONE would ever be fine with being double-charged for an inferior version of something they already paid for once… if it doesn’t bother you… swell.
Although it is interesting that each piece of mount equipment takes something from another profession to make. You need something from the BS and LW to make that one for example.
Wormhole Generator: Kul Tiras,
Wormhole Generator: Zandalar
random destinations, 15min cooldown, requires BFA-ENG(1)
Better than nothing… I’d been hoping Engineering’s teleport gadgets would finally show up for BFA. Will be nice not having to go through the Banshee’s Wail anymore.
