No.
Just no.
If you lose waterwalking on live, it’s camera angle.
I’m not sure what it is, but if I take damage on my water strider I’ll fall through and I can’t hop back up unless I dismount and remount, even in the water.
The only time this has happened to me is when I am being attacked by something in the water and it is biting my mount. I have never lost water walking when I jumped into the water.
Key words “take damage”.
That’s not fall damage, never has been.
It happens to me if anything hits me. I don’t think it’s happened with fall damage though.
Oh I see, you meant fall damage exclusively.
If you take a lot of falling damage, yes, sometimes the water strider’s buff may break.
But after testing it on both live and PTR pretty exhaustively… the bug is way way more tolerant than mount equipment.
Again, like I said… not that anyone will be using water walking equipment going forward. The illusion of choice is just that. We’ll need the other two very much if we’re doing new content from now on.
You’re right. They can’t. But they certainly can alienate and anger a good portion of their player base by going through with this change.
We did the work to earn the strider as a water walking mount. Keep it that way.
Maybe they don’t want us to be able to yeet ourselves off cliffs anymore and not break speed. It doesn’t seem like a massive convenience or inconvenience either way to me.
How do you not understand the frustration? I can already water walk on my strider. Removing that ability and then making me buy it for gold makes no sense. How are you going to feel when next x-pac or patch they do the same thing for flying? Any mount that can fly right now will now have the innate ability to fly removed and you’ll have to buy a piece of equipment to make it fly. How well do you think that’s going to go over? That’s how those of us with striders feel. I don’t think the strider is special in any way and I don’t even care that I had to grind rep to get it. What I don’t like is having something taken away and having it be made to look like a good thing that I have to pay to get it back.
You mean like, buying my flight training?
No. I mean like you bought flight training but none of your flying mounts fly until you put flying equipment on them. Because for all intents and purposes, grinding out the rep for the water strider = buying flight training.
But having to buy flight equipment would cause all mounts on that character to fly and they would not like that. Unless it was equipment specifically made for flying mounts.
OOF, having to do pathfinder AND buy mount equipment.
But at least they get to retain the ability AND still have choice across all the other mounts.
This option is actually the least impactful while providing the most amount of choice.
I see what you mean but I also don’t think that’s an apt comparison since there are dozens of flying mounts and a whole two water walking mounts.
I agree. Adjust the water strider to be just like the sky golem, i.e. it has no equipment slot, but it retains its special ability (water walking).
This is the only fair solution, but I’m afraid Blizzard won’t go for it. They don’t want anyone water walking anywhere.
As my achievement point score can attest, I’ve been a pretty darned loyal WoW player for years.
I’m used to change. Combat abilities come and go. Cool stuff I worked hard for becomes obsolete as newer/better stuff comes out. I’m fine with all that.
Now, instead of weaning us off old stuff with new-better stuff, Blizzard is just arbitrarily DESTROYING things. Portals, water walking. And what do we get in return? More lack-luster crafting recipes, longer flightpaths than ever. Massive travel obstructions that take longer to get around. A fancy new portal room (yay) that means more loading screens to get to old places and funnels us through one of the slowest loading zones in the game.
That’s a lot of straw.
I haven’t so much as even looked at another MMO in years.
Last night I bought and installed ESO.
I’m not saying I’m leaving WoW over this… but I’ve got a foot out the door they no longer have my undivided loyalty.
They pull more BS quality of life downgrades like this, and I’ll join the other 8.5% of subscribers that have lost interest.
It’s a great comparison. Because if they can do it to a “whole two water walking mounts” then guess what? Next time they can up the ante and do it to flying mounts. It’s the concept of taking away something we already have and making us pay to have it again. If they do it to water striders this time, there’s no reason why it won’t be flying next time. It’s about the strider, yes. But it’s also about a lot more than that.
I think that’s a bit dramatic but to each their own worries.
And they can also do it to the Yak, and the Brutosaur, and…
Get the picture?
