As explained several times:
- You can’t ‘put equipment’ on specific mounts. Mount equipment is character wide, affects -all- mounts (except sky golem / lumber extractor).
- Water striders keep walking on water after taking fall damage. But take 1hp of damage and Mount equipment inferior to water buff is dispelled. You have to remount to get it back. walking.
- A third to half of all mounts are ‘too big’ to jump back onto the water surface after you remount while swimming. So while you have the buff again, you often won’t have the benefit.
- Now you lose bag slots to always carrying around spare mount equipment / water walking consumables, and bag spaces are limited & precious.
- Najzatar will almost certainly be a royal pain to navigate without ‘anti-daze’ equipment, EVEN AFTER FLYING because there’s aggressive flying mobs all over the zone. Water Walking Mount equipment will be the worst choice of the three in that zone. Likely the same for mechagon.

You have to purchase what you already have with gold - and based on how they worded it in their announcement, only the character that has the rep will get the item. So you have to repurchase it in some way or form to regain “account-wide” access (which is how it currently works) - and then continue paying if one chooses to expand their account.
This is how it punishes those more “loyal” types of players that have more than just toon. It’s like an “anti-discount” for being in a loyalty club.

It doesn’t work the same way it does now. It breaks on just about any damage even jumping down a short distance onto the water from a rock, 50% of your mounts can’t use it and depending on your toon (Tauren’s for instance) remounting in the water is not working. This is not the current case with the water strider. It is with the equipment.

For one character only.
If you want alts to have it, you must purchase additional items.

Huh. I thought it said account wide, but maybe they meant account bound?
Also, people testing on the PTR have stated that the WW ability on the PTR is completely different to that on live currently. The strider and any other mount takes fall damage from very small falls and you cannot get back onto the water afterward. There is also a problem with many mounts being able to use WW at all without having the character swimming to land and remounting after taking a hit. Instead of being able to remount and just jump up onto the surface and continue on.
Is it a bug or intended is unclear. I for one have the Strider and feel that they should exclude it from the mount equipment as they are doing with the Golem. No equipment slot at all and retains it’s ability. I have no problem with any other mount having WW at all, just leave the strider as is.

This happens to me on live servers on the water strider. Unintended bug perhaps?
BoA item, aka, can be mailed to any character on the account.
I have seen it personally on the PTR. You get one account bound item if you own the strider you can mail to your alts. That affects one single alt, not all alts. This is the same for all other mount equipment, they can be mailed to alts but only usable on one.
We also do not know how much these will cost once they get into the professions people’s hands and the AH. This is not on the PTR yet that I know of and it would not a true indication of market price anyway.
Perhaps, no one knows at the moment. It could change in another PTR update.
The water striders water walking has never broke from fall damage. You take damage, and can die from fall damage but the effect didn’t/currently doesn’t break.
It does with the equipment on the PTR.

As noted above, it’s a bad system. And it’s a slap in the face to people who did the work to earn the strider.
Bad move, Blizz.

Oh and I am not sure if it is a bug or not either, but every character I logged into on PTR got a piece of boot gear that was over 100. I am thinking this is a bug or something just for the PTR.
But on a few level 20s I made did not receive it in the mail.
I think it’s just so whatever character you copied over had it available. Players who received exalted with the Anglers may not have leveled up that particular character so they wouldn’t have copied it to the PTR to test the new stuff.
I can see how it’s technically a downgrade from having an infinite water strider mount on every character by default but I truly think this trade-off is worth it. They can’t make everyone happy.
Take the water strider’s innate water walking away and give it an equipment slot with which they can slot water walking tokens: People feel like something was taken from them and then sold back to them for 40g.
Keep the water strider’s innate water walking and give it an equipment slot: water strider remains the overused and strongest mount for travel.
Leave the water strider as it is and give it no equipment slots: people who enjoy the water strider as a mount design cannot partake in equipment choice which was part of why they wanted to do this in the first place.
Out of those three evils, I think charging people 40g is probably the best option.
Again, I think this may be a bug. It happens to me on live servers pretty often on my strider.
The mount equipment SLOT is unlocked acct-wide when one of your alts reaches level 100.
The Water Strider Equipment bought from the rep vendor before being used is BoA.
The slotted mount equipment is character-wide, and like gems, can’t be removed only replaced with new equipment.
There are three: Water Walking, No-Daze(necessary in new zones before flying), and safe-fall(likely necessary in new zones after flying). Crafted versions require reagents that will likely make them cost 1000g each on the AH.
So, basically, if you’re doing new content, the 1-free/more-for-cheap water walking equipment from the rep vendor will be -useless-.
So as long as you’re doing new zones? You will probably never use Water Walking Equipment ever again, and the strider that we unlocked, earned and paid for will have permanently lost the usefulness that we acquired it for.
Which, in the end, is more severe than what Blizzard originally intended with making the Azure Water Strider a MoP-zone-only thing and the Crimson Water Strider only effective in WoD zones.

That is one other thing that we do not have any confirmation of, is it still going to be 40g on the live servers. I have tested on the PTR enough to know that things usually have a very low cost for those that do not copy characters over. So it could change once this goes live, again we just don’t know. What if they change the price to 1k gold instead of 40g.
But even at that, why take something away and make someone pay for it again.
