Water Strider Discussion

Maybe Blizzard can design a more pleasing water mount people would think more of keeping in the future. But for now ,they should leave it the way it is design for.

The problem is that we don’t know their true intentions, goals, and key metrics.

We do have evidence of overall decline at this point - so it’s hard to make an argument for them succeeding at this point (unless their goal was to lose more of it’s player base).

They seem to be doing a decent job of masking the issues with the wording they used in their public financial statements - but as an experienced investor, I blow past the doctored wording and go straight for the numbers. I assume they’ll be given enough time to hit up one more expansion before drastic changes start happening.

My wonder is whether or not they’ll start engaging the community with any changes they make to reverse the bleeding of players. It seems like they hardly ever talk to us about the change’s we’d like to see, and they often change things that weren’t an issue in the first place - leaving the players feeling like they’ve only lost something.

I love wow - but this is a time where a pivotal shift is going to happen based on their choices.

I hope for the best - but in the worst case, I’ve got real life I suppose. :stuck_out_tongue:

For some reason, I dont care about this mount. Why? Coz I have Path of Frost. Enuff said.

So do I - but there are lot of players that play other classes and/or play on various characters.

You get one “freebie” if you’re exalted with Anglers, so if you have a Water Strider you can equip it (or a different mount)…ONE mount…at no cost.

Any additional mounts you want to equip with the “floaties” (or water walking equipment) will cost 40g per mount.

Each mount has one equipment slot (from what I can tell), so if you have to have at least 3 mounts equipped with the various equipment (water walking, slow fall, and no-daze), but you can’t have all 3 on one mount.

So you will still have to change mounts to water walk if you normally use a mount that grants slow fall or no-daze, which is the same thing we currently have to do (dismount and mount up on the strider to walk on water).

This “fix” doesn’t actually fix anything, it just makes things much more convoluted. Also… Nothing was broken. People complained about not having a water walking mount…people who couldn’t be bothered to put in the small bit of effort to do a few dailies to gain rep.

Long answer, but here’s a TLDR for you…

– If you have a favorite mount, you will have to spend 40g to change it’s equipment for whatever it is you’re wanting to do at the time…
-----Run around without being dazed.
-----Walk on water.
-----Jump off mountains without dying.

– Or you can have 3 mounts equipped and change your mount based on what you want to be “protected” from…
-----Mobs dismounting you.
-----Death from falling.
-----Swimming and/or drowning.

Clear as mud, right?

I found this interesting, look at what he runs into and the daze circles throughout the things he fights. He also mentions that the mobs are pretty dense.

Interesting if you are talking about needing anti-dazing mount equipment instead of water walking. This should work, but in case it does not it is at 1:18.

He goes through a few battles over the next few mins and it seems like most of the mobs have a heavy daze mechanic.

Well… I’ll try to explain why I don’t want to have to do it.

I spent a lot of time doing dailies to gain reputation with The Anglers so that I could purchase, with what was a fairly large amount of gold for me at the time (around 4250g or therabouts with exalted reputation).

I do not have the Crimson Water Strider but if I did I would not just be a little irritated by this change, I would be about a mile past completely peeved.

The Crimson Water Strider takes exalted rep (or “Best Friend” status) with Nat Pagel himself, which can only be obtained by fishing up “Lunkers”. Lunkers, if you don’t already know, are rare fish types from Draenor rivers, oceans, and lakes. For an idea of how long it takes to fish up enough to reach “Best Friend” status with old Nat, feel free to check out the comments here…

Obtaining these mounts is no small feat.

Now all of the effort, time, tears, 6-packs, 5ths, etc. it took to get these mounts is completely negated.

And why?

So I’ll have to buy equipment for them. Remember you only get ONE water walking item “free” if you’re exalted with The Anglers. So if you have both Striders you will have to purchase the equipment for at least one of them because Blizz can’t just leave their functionality alone and add the equipment for other mounts if it’s wanted.

I don’t want to buy, or receive, equipment for a mount that should be able to work the way it’s always worked with no equipment so that it will work the way it used to work now that equipment is a thing.

Get it?

That’s what the Water Walking potion is for.

Also, Shaman have water walking. Priests have levitate. And what’s that other thing again all players can use?.. Oh yeah…

Yet another crafted item that will now be utterly useless but was always available and did the same thing as the Water Strider and the new, very unnecessary, equipment.

No, I don’t think you do.
The mount equipment applies to all of your mounts for one character.
The slot is at the bottom of your mount tab page, and whatever equipment you have dropped in that slot, for that particular character, is active for each of your mounts, but only on that character.
About the only thing you stated accurately is that players with Anglers rep receive one each water walking token. If you apply it, and never change it to anything else, then all of that character’s mounts have water walking. None of your alts will until you purchase and apply them to each individual character.

It says it’ll give all your mounts water walking though?

This actually appeals to me. GW2 has a similar system where each mount serves a purpose and I like it. It’s different for sure, but at worse it’s still not a downgrade if you’re only interested in riding around on a particular mount exclusively.

I think that the Water Strider should keep its water walking ability but not have the slot for the the other abilities. If you choose to use the other abilities the you still could have one mount with water walking.

This is what I read as well.

I truly don’t understand this frustration with the water strider.

At worst you can just pop the water walking on and mount your water strider and literally nothing changes for you at all. Mount equipment hereby do not affect you. Your mount is still representative of the effort you put in to earn it, since they’re not just giving away water striders, and you can still water walk on your strider.

Unless you mean that you’re unhappy that other people will be able to water walk on mounts other than the water strider.

I dislike this as well.

It isn’t about not wanting to using the water walking equipment on the strider. It is about the water strider losing its special ability. Most of us have worked hard at earning a special mount that does a special ability. We do not want that mount to lose that ability.

For some reason, blizzard seems to think that the water strider is an overpowered mount because it can walk on water. The company has tried a few times to get rid of its ability but the community protested. So they have created a deceptive method to do it. Create a consumable that can easily be replaced at some point, eliminating the ability for any mount to walk on water.

But you can still water walk on it. I’m confused.

The argument is that this what the water strider is for - which is why various players grinded out for it.

The issue is that they’re changing what we’ve already earned and how we expected it to function.

I think it would be different if they at least “grandfathered” the strider’s ability for current and past content - but then made it need the water walking shoes for all future content.

I wouldn’t like this - but I think it would at least not be taking something away that we’ve already had.

In the end - it’s just a sad consequence to a poorly executed and designed system that could have made mounts so much more exciting and engaging. Instead it marginally makes mounts better if you’re willing to stockpile consumables (on all of your characters; clogging up bag space) to allow you the option of varying your choice of equipment, while at the same time taking something away from players that have already earned it, only to offer it right back to them at a price.

Poor design, coupled with punishing the players who invest more time across various characters the most??? No thanks - I’ll take my money to just about any other company at that point.

If you’re ok with having them sell you something you’ve already earned, and the benefit is a sub-par product - have at it.

I love WoW - but I’m not going to be treated by it’s developers like this and continue giving them my money.

But it’s not a cash shop store item. And you get a free water walking equipment for owning the water strider.

It’s what I have done on the PTR.

Basic rundown.

Open mount tab page.
Drop the token into the slot.
All mounts now have that ability, but only that ability, and only on that specific character.
