Water Strider Discussion

They’ll be annoying, but, honestly, I think it may make flying more interesting. I don’t object to them as much as I do being forced to give up account-wide water walking for ‘falling death insurance’.

I’m not testing on the PTR but I don’t oppose danger zones. I liked Blade’s Edge Mountain danger zones and the risk of being shot down in Taanan or by flying patrols in SW/Org. It is going to depend on mob density in the sky and how annoying they make it though (and if they make it just arbitrary annoyances).

If for example the naga harpoon launchers are setup in certain places to target airborne players to stay away from a fortress to encourage exploration from the ground – good. If it is all over randomly just to antagonize or just “swarm of bees! dismount time!” – not so much. Or just to justify the new mount equip system,…

We shall see…

I remember areas in BC, I think, when you could get knocked out of the sky by some type of anti-flying mechanism. (in a Fel area, if memory serves me) I honestly wouldn’t mind that as much but like Kyokii mentioned, if it’s just to antagonize, I’d be much less patient.
And I agree with Jops, it’s not as worrisome or frustrating to me as breaking my strider.

The Leatherworking barding still works in Nazjatar despite tooltip saying KT and Zandalr.

Well, that’s a plus anyway… hopefully this goes live

Still hoping this thread stays alive.
We need to let them know we have not given up.

Treat the Water Strider like the Sky Golem…

I would love to hear what is wrong with this compromise?

Freedom to switch without paying for new mount equipment & consumables wouldn’t drain gold out of our pockets fast enough to make people buy WowTokens.

Seems they are having problems with the water walking feature on the PTR. The larger mounts will not clear the water if you mount after being knocked off. You have to swim to land, mount up, and enter the water area…
you should go read the posts.

Yeah I’ve seen people point that out in here. The other main point about the equipment is that if you fall a tiny bit too far now and take a little damage landing on the water, the strider us fine, the boots are not.

If I understand this correctly, you used the water boots and all your mounts can walk on water. Sounds great right? So once you hit land if you want to use the anti-stun to keep everything and their brother from knocking you from your mount while traveling across land, you stop and click that on your mount which disengages your water walking ability. Ooops I forgot here is a big mass of water I need to cross, stops and realizes I have no more water walking boots, I need to go ALL THE WAY back to a previous expansion and buy a bunch AGAIN, equip the water walking ability because I can’t just switch to my WATERWALKING Strider I worked hard for and then I can walk across water once more.

No one sees this headache? Just have the waterwalking strider unable to equip anti-stun, if you must and leave the rest alone. If you think it’s going to be so great that all your mounts can walk on water with this thing and life will be easy are you so gullible to think that the developers won’t suddenly add more marine life to stun you as you cross, knock you off your mount, have to fight stuff at max level you shouldn’t have to fight, but that’s a whole other topic (mob leveling) I despise, you will be sadly mistaken.

They aren’t making life easier - they are basically making the water boots look so appealing at first then you find yourself, pretty much, are walking from place to place fighting everything within 10 miles that “saw” you try to go by on your newly equipped water boot mount and knocked you off it. They do nothing in this game to make your travel quicker, that’s against their rules, they want you in the game longer and to make you have to fight more than we already do so because you are stunned off your mount, you take longer to get from point a to point b.

Just another way of making you think they are giving you a cake but the cake is poison. And just like anything else objected to, everyone will end up hating it but they’ll keep on playing and accept it and everything will die down just like they did when they took away flying. Might as well say it’s taken away, because by the time you get it you are so sick to death of everything you quit for awhile and they don’t hear any negatives about it so they think, cool, that worked well.

This is the whole point of mount equipment. Blizzard is slowly taking away many of the quality of life improvements they have made in the past to make us play longer. It started with the war on flying, and moving on to portals and now the water strider.

Will not be surprised at all when mount equipment is gated with pathfinder in the future. In fact I expect it to be done. I also expect flying to be only available thru mount equipment in the future, so we will have to switch equipment, not just pick our favorite and forget about it.

Why not just put the water walking equipment on it?

You haven’t been here very long, or read most of the comments, have you?

That about sums it up. When I see this discussed in trade chat, many people are merely looking at the “cake”, and have no idea what the consequences will fully be. They just see the “water walking” ability being available on any mount, and assume it will be like the strider.

I am positive this was their intention, and it angers me that bliz has been so deceptive about it. Along with rolling this out at the same time flying becomes available, they are doing their level-best to hide the sneaky nerfs and inevitable frustration this is going to cause.

This is literally the first post I’ve made in here, yes. I read through some of the previous posts but I don’t see anyone explain why they don’t want to use the water walking equipment on the water strider, just that they don’t want to. Most of what’s being said is tangential arguments that’re hard to follow.

Scroll up 5 posts to Cadie and read their post. The boots do not work as the natural ability on the strider already and there are problems with them working at all on large mounts.

Oh so they’re one-time use?

Yeah that’s dumb, but unrelated to the water strider. Just make the equipment an unlockable or a slotted item instead of a consumable nbd.

That would defeat the purpose of them forcing us to choose only one and charge copious amounts if gold for changeing. Or the tons if bag space used to constantly change.

I realize that slogging through 4500 comments is somewhat impossible, but there have been thousands of lamentable explanations of why this is a really bad and unpopular decision should this go live. It is already being tested on the test realm, and those who are actually using these “boots” (or whatever they’re deciding to call them), are finding it very frustrating already.

In a nutshell, blizzard is intentionally taking away the unique abilities the water strider has. It’s ability to fall and not break from damage on water, it’s “bounciness”, for lack of a better term, will be gone. The strider has been in the game and used for many years, and many people did a long grind to get it and feel it’s unfair to rip that away now. Not all mounts can rise-up from depths of water to walk across it, as the strider can now, and that makes the description of the water walking ability being used for “any mount” a deception of the term.

It has also been normal for blizzard to “gate” a feature, OR completely negate it’s use in other lands and areas of future content. Because it allows players somewhat of an ease of travel, and they have often in the past nerfed such things, for a variety of really ridiculous reasons (making the world seem bigger, forcing players to “see” content and new design)…to many it is obvious this is their true intention. Flying, portals, and other conveniences being the most glaring examples of their history.
Even making the equipment or boots free to those who have the strider already when it goes live, is deceptive. There are some who will not get the initial equipment free. And it will also wind up costing those with alts, and will be a craftable item, making them in all likelihood, very costly for many.
There are many more reasons to dislike this move by blizzard. These are just some of the issues we are potentially facing.

The golem is being left as-is, and most of us would just like to see blizzard listen to us for once, and scrap this terrible idea and leave the strider alone as well.
With so many other issues this company needs to address, and has ignored for far too long, this issue with the strider should be scrapped if they want to continue to say they want to listen to the players.
This is a game buster for many of us.
