Water Strider Discussion

I think it looks awesome, thank you very much. It’s one of my favorite mounts.

And they should absolutely leave it’s water walking ability alone.

I’m not touching the ToS/EULA thing. That’s a deep dark rabbit whole that’s been explored elsewhere and adds nothing useful to this topic.

OMG, I’ve re-written this like 5 times now because I keep getting longwinded.

I agree. It seems unethical, and I’ve called it that myself. However, it’s in a virtual world with its own internal ‘ethics’, so that’s not as cut and dried as I’d like it to be.

My problem with this change (and the legacy portal slaughter) is that it’s clear that ALL ENDURING and USEFUL rewards from the past are fair game for removal, (ETA) not just being obsoleted by newer/better versions, just straight up yanked-out-by-the-roots deletion.

I strive for better gear to make it easier to complete challenges for useful rewards that endure. If Blizzard’s goal is to make every expansion entirely separate with no carry over (seems to be the case), then why bother?

If there are no enduring goals to pursue, why bother with the temporary goals that help me gear up? I’ll run the story content, do stuff once… then unsub until there’s enough new content to lure me back in. Then run all the unique content until I run out, and then unsub again.

It’s feeling less like a ‘world’ and more like a series of unconnected boxes of stuff.

You already have this, it’s been in the game since at least BC. Water Walking Potions will make any mount, yes any mount walk on water. So why do they have to take away our water strider to give us something that is already in the game?

You are fully aware that old Wod Garrisons offer resources that can be in turn collected weekly to then covert into materials that a alchemist can turn into mats for a ton of water walking potions yes?

Like you have to be incredibly lazy and just a huge prick if you cant be bothered to do that.

^ like right there bam you have over a 100+ elixirs at your disposal.

For the people who prefer the current function of the water strider despite it’s appearance, the water walking provided by the mount equipment is a step backwards, not forwards.

As others do as well. I grinded the rep for the water-walking strider because I wanted a water-walking strider. I could have easily just used water-walking potions. What harm is it to leave the mount as intended and exempt it from the mount equipment? You get what you want, I get what I want. Things do not have to be just one way or the other.

Try supporting your fellow players with this compromise. After all, wasn’t “vanilla” all about community?

aaaand another “non strider owner” chimes in, with their predictable opinion.

the ww equipment doesn’t function in the same way the striders ww ability functions.
let people feel how they want to feel about it.

reducing the price didn’t take anything away.
if anything, the prices should be raised again… just from a gold-sink point of view.

not for people who want transmog/pets/mounts/recipes or just the reputation itself, for achievement and title purposes.

In exactly the same way that the shiny new portal rooms don’t function in the same way as the portal rooms now standing empty. Let us feel how we want to feel about it.

go feel that way in the portal thread.

this is not it.

There is a nutty population of players who CANNOT use the water walking equipment so long as the water strider has passive water walking. They don’t see it as a cosmetic account wide choice. They feel they are entitled to double dip and therefore would continue to be “forced” to use the water strider for walking on water .

It would still be a choice, that they made, but they don’t want to take responsibility for not taking the cosmetic choice so now we all have to lose the bug’s passive.

Personally I would continue to use the passive water strider for water walking and ignore the mount equipment system as it provides no value to me. Daze and parachute are not worth my time or effort.

There is a very old saying that applies here, it is this:

The straw that broke the camels back.

That’s what this move is to many here. It seems like such a little thing to some. But it’s just another thing in a long list of stuff that has broken others. It is more about the principal and what this move represents then the actual move it-self. Players are taking a stand now and on this thing so that Blizzard never get’s used to making moves like this. Because when people get away with something once or twice it opens the flood gate’s and they feel perfectly entitled to do it again when ever they wish to.

Yep, I let my sub lapse from this decision. The funny thing is, I don’t miss it. I’ve been relearning how to play GW2 and having some fun. I don’t know if I will come back even if they change this decision, I have lost all trust with Ion and company.

I would as well. Now if they gave me a piece of equipment that allowed me to instant mount, I’d use that. But I don’t fall off mountains, and I know how to avoided mobs when riding my mount. So those items are useless to me. However, I would support anyone who wants mount equipment, and I hope they support me wanting to keep my Bug’s passive.

I resubbed for 3 months. I will play beyond the patch and get flying, but when this goes live, if they haven’t backed-off and come to their senses, my monthly contribution will go bye-bye as well.

Same here. I may even just go ahead and bail now, and then decide if I really want to come back to do Pathfinder 2 once 8.2 hits. The way I’m feeling about Blizzard right now, I’m thinking I’m just done.

Same here. Unsubbed today.

I’ve been testing out Najzatar on the PTR.

Even with my innate no-daze protection with Warlock [Demon Skin] … I’m getting dismounted -WAAAAY- more often than ever before.

And there’s flying predatory mobs patrolling -many- parts of Najzatar (if not all parts).

So once we unlock pathfinder2 and start flying, we will NEED either No-daze or Saddle-Chute or they’re gonna dismount us and we’ll take possibly lethal falling damage.

This is how Blizzard plans to force us to give up water walking completely, by making it the ‘worst default choice’ for mount equipment going forward.

Yaaaay. /sarcasm

If they choose to do something like this then I might be done as well. I have no desire to have to avoid being dazed when I am flying. I do not find that fun.

To be honest, I didn’t notice getting dazed (I think [Demon Skin] was preventing that), but I did notice getting insta-dismounted by certain mobs. Others, I’d run through them loop around and come back and it’d take them a while to knock me off.

I couldn’t really detect a pattern. Might just be RNG. But it’s still way more often than it was previously.

That’s a really vindictive way to finally let us unlock flying but screw us at the same time. You think you can fly finally but really… lolno.
