I approve of the mount equipment slots. Water Striders are hideous and having them be the only mount capable of water walking is bad for character customization.
I encourage you to look a little deeper into the mount equipment concept. It may look shiny and cool on the surface, but itās just a ploy for them to progressively get rid of water walking altogether. Also gliders, barding, and probably even shaman and death knight water walking spells. Those spells will be considered ātoo overpowered,ā or an āunfair advantage,ā and theyāll prune them.
Once the sub numbers start plummeting further thatās when they will be back to do their usual 180, arrogance can get people so far.
Metrohaha?
Heās an MVP (green poster) who streams and who you can guarantee will reply with an utterly clueless remark or poor shill.
In the old forums that tracked green posts it was easier to follow his nonsense for amusement.
Thatās some pretty wild speculation.
Getting rid of water walking is as likely as getting rid of flying. Even if they realized that it was a mistake, once the cat is out of the bag they canāt really get rid of it, just limit it to a small degree in current contentā¦ Which is fine IMO.
The pros of mount equipment so heavily outweigh any realistic speculation on the cons that this entire debate is just bizzare.
I donāt disagree that some speculation borders on the extreme, but this just isnāt really accurate. People are already poking holes in exactly how sideways this mount equipment system is. Long before the speculative parts.
Bingo. This for them is āworking as intendedā. Sadly;
f you are actively playing 49 other characters. Then this might be a shocker, but you are an outlier that they donāt balance or make changes around.
maybe not 49 characters but I know lots of people who actively play 20+ characters. Right now I play about 9 or 10 depending on how Iām feeling and what is going on in the game.
I do actively level 2 at the same time when there is new content (one horde/one alliance) but since I screwed up some of the horde stuff, I have to play 4 to see both sides of the horde story. I had one horde that was pro Sylvanas and one Saurfang, but when the Baine questline came out, it wasnāt obvious that there was a choice, so now my pro Sylvanas worked with Baine and my pro Saurfang worked against Baine. I might have even broken the game doing this
I honestly donāt think my speculation is all that extreme.
This is World of Prunecraft, after all.
The problem isnāt so much that they are removing something from the game. The problem is that they are changing something that doesnāt need to be changed. Change simply for the sake of change is annoying. If it aināt broke, donāt fix it.

Real customization would be introducing mount equipment on a mount by mount basis and letting me choose which of my mounts walk on water, glide, etc but Blizzard wants you to pay every time you want to try a new gear, not have actual options.
Also the current iteration of water walking shoes on the PTR breaks on fall damage (water bug does not) so already it is a downgrade.
The pros of mount equipment
What pros? As of right now I can use all 3 at the same time. Water walking, anti-daze and gliders. After this horrendous change, I can only pick 1. Weāre losing more than gaining the ability to water walk with any mount. Not to mention losing the reward specified from Blizzard for doing a rep grind. And if you did it back in MoP, thatās a lot to give up.

How so?
How in the world do you get this idea?
Thereās potions for water walking that have been around for years.
Whoās fault is it, that there hasnāt been more water walking mounts designed in the first place?
Weād like Blizzard to just leave the water strider the hell alone. Like they intend to do with the golem. What difference does it make to YOU, if they do that, and give you this ridiculous gem or equipment system, so you can walk on water with any flipping mount that you have in your possession?
Howās that gonna affect you? By still having to see the āhideous striderā???
The heck with people who donāt like itās looks. Itās been around for years. Get over it.
Thereās a lot of mounts I donāt like. That doesnāt mean I wish bliz would break any of their abilities so Iād have to see them any less.
For people who want the strider disabled, think of what it would have been like if Blizzard would have done something like this when transmog came out. Itās been stated for years that Blizzard wished they hadnāt made Corrupted Ashbringer lootable.
So imagine you got to raid original Naxx and got your hands on that weapon and held onto it for 3 expansions. Then Blizz comes out with the transmog system and removed all non-obtainable gear from everyoneās inventory and stated,āif itās not in the game, you canāt transmog itā.
This is the same thing. People spent their time earning the rep to purchase this mount and itās being stripped away.
Please let my tiny water strider keep his feet. He never did nothen to you. Iām sorry I had fun on himā¦ I will stop smiling as I ride him, Promise!
Donāt punish this innocent bugā¦ punish me! Iāll grind thru 40 LFRās in a row as my penance.

You may be on to something there. Maybe ā just maybe ā if we all start posting about how much we hate the strider, how un-fun it is, what an awful experience we have with it, theyāll consider not nerfing it.

I am amazed at the people who cannot just support the group of people who want blizzard to leave the strider alone. It isnāt like that we are saying to get rid of the mount equipment, and we are ok with blizzard exempting the strider from using mount equipment.
We just want the special mount we earned to be left as is.

I hate the look of the Sky Golem and the chunkiness of it, however, I understand that it serves a purpose and I would never support it losing itās primary ability just because I do not like the look of it.

With really bad tanks! And Iāll Join you! My cute bug should not suffer! he deserves better!
That is exactly the kind of cynical perception they are supposed to be fighting with more open communication but it seems that was just PR nonsense.
The pros of mount equipment so heavily outweigh any realistic speculation on the cons that this entire debate is just bizzare.
They could add mount equipment and exempt the water striders easily. That way people, like you, can use mount equipmentās inferior water walking buff on any mount of your choosing.
And those of us who might want to use something else on all our other mounts, arenāt forced to give up the water striderās superior water walking entirely.
But apparently āchoice, without paying to switchā is against Blizzardās design strategy these days.
