You’re mistaken about the equipment being free or reusable for alts.
Each of your characters will have one equipment slot in their mount journal.
The equipment you slot in will affect all of that character’s mounts.
Every time you change equipment the old equipment is destroyed.
There will be 2 or 3 other equipments, Parachute, Antii-daze and possibly a 10% speed increase one. The water walking equipment is expected to be comparatively cheap, but the others are expected to cost ~1000 gold each.
That might not sound like much, but with Activision’s boss crazy for micro-transactions and Blizzard doing all they can to increase token sales, you can be sure the environment will be engineered to pressure us into continually changing equipments.
Not only is this another money grab to make us need tokens for gold to keep buying these equipments, but the water walking the equipment gives is a nerfed version of what we had on the striders.
This also paves the way for Blizzard to remove or further gate mount abilities in the future. One thing we put up with Pathfinder for is that it eventually, if we finish it, enables free flying in that particular area on all our alts. Now it will be very easy for Blizzard to make flying another equipment, so after completing pathfinder we’re allowed to buy flying equipment - separately for each character.
With the boring, reskinned 8.2 rep mounts price being increased to 90,000 gold each on the PTR, we can see how greedy Blizzard now is, and have some idea what to expect.
Wouldn’t just excluding the water bug from the mount equipment and keeping it’s skills save blizzard the effort of having to locate and mail everyone free watershoes.
A simple patch…VS…a million in game mail’s.
Blizzard look to your inner lazy…you know this to be true.
No-one will be mailed watershoes once this goes live, that’s just a testing thing. You will have to go to Pandaria and buy them from Nat there - which is a nice long trip from the only Pandaria portal left, Pawdon Village.
The only characters who will get free equipment are the ones who did the actual purchasing of the Azure Strider, or who have earned exalted with Nat. Purchasing the Crimson Strider does not make you eligible for free equipment.
I would have loved to see the programing effort and design team put into fixing class design, fine tuning the interface issues or adding more spells… But why this?
When we said “fix the bugs” did they take it literally?
I don’t expect anyone at all will get the WW equipment in the mail once this goes live.
Bornakk’s posts here mention several times having to go to Pandaria to purchase these, and never once suggest they will be available in the mail on live - which he would be likely to do if that was the case, as he’s trying to promote this change.
New things are often freely distributed in the PTR so we can test them.
Never really understood the group that feels the need to say suck it up. If you don’t care, then don’t participate in the discussion.
I also agree that some cannot see what might happen in the future, nor do they care to. And that is fine, however, they need to remain silent once what has been predicted (based on trends) comes to fruition.
What about the fact that you get 1 free token and that is it? The rest must be purchased. What about the fact that this opens the door to eliminate water walking mounts all together as the item is a consumable, and they tend to tie consumable to areas.
You like mount equipment and I support that. I only ask in return that you support those who spent time farming the rep for the water-strider and would like it to retain the ability they farmed & purchased.
No it is a consumable. If you decide to check out one of the other pieces of mount equipment, you must purchase a new one to bring the previous ability back.
This is a very important point, and it is probably the actual reason why they have introduced this feature.
I would have loved to see them put more effort into adding depth back into the game. Right now they are focused on things that can lead people to purchase tokens vs creating meaningful content that would bring people back to play the game.
Yep, all you need do to keep the same amount of milk coming in when your cows are dying off is tie the surviving ones to the milking machine and milk them harder and longer.
If they cark it or kick their way to freedom, you just need to milk the rest even longer. It’ll all be fine if you show them who’s boss and keep the pressure on, won’t it?
First they came for our water striders…
and we screamed up because we stride water, and they backed down.
Then they came for our flying…
and we spoke up because we’re fliers, and they relented with pathfinder.
Then they came for our flying again… with the promise we’d get it later…
and we spoke up, but not as loudly and we were ignored.
Then they came for our legacy portals…
And we spoke up… so they’re (still) working on giving us ONE back.
then they came for our striders again…
and we spoke up, but with a conflicted voice because they got sneaky and made it ‘seem’ like an upgrade to people who never had one … and then ignored us and proceeded to nerf them anyway.
They’re winning via attrition. Each time they pull this kind of thing, the outcry is less because more of the players who care about what this team is doing to the game have quit.
Pretty sure they’ve already had their way with classes. This is just azerite gear for mounts. Just wait until next expac, where we get to slowly empower our mount equipment via the newest AP grind.
Speaking of ‘cathartic’ therapy.
If “people like you” are going to be smug and happy about breaking the water strider so you can simply put a slow fall or anti-daze on it, instead of all the other mounts in your collection, you sir, are a sanctimonious jerk.
A good 95% of the commenting player base wants to keep the bug mount they worked for the way it is. The way it has been for darn near 3 years. And here you are still, chiding others because YOU want bliz to break it so you can put slow fall on it.
