I totally expect this to happen. Lets just hope it is only 100g, I figure more like 1000g each. Why bleed us a little when they can get us for a lot more.
Blizzard: Not very many people fish, we should just remove it. No, waitā¦ maybe, what if we incentivize it? A special pole? No. A Trinket with a fish-themed effect? Ah-ha! Iāve got it! A mount. A particular mount that is cool!
~The Water Strider is introduced~
Blizzard: Fishing is up! They do enjoy it! Well done, team.
~Time passes~
Blizzard: What do you mean you canāt put Piranha in every body of water? Well make it a shark? Resources and lag? Do you not understand that players are taking 2min extra to go around the islands on the ocean side to get to their quests, rather than go through the jungle?!? We need to come up with a solution!
~Team unveils proposal~
Blizzard: A consumable? Not bad, not bad. I like it!
Nowā¦ how do we get more players fishing?
First there was Pathfinder so we could āearnā back flying.
Then there was AP so we could āearnā back the talents they stripped off our toons and put onto rental gear.
Now thereās mount equipment so we can āearnā back the intrinsic abilities they strip from our mounts.
This is what passes for content in modern WoW.
The worst part is that people who just donāt care about the water strider, or donāt have one, or donāt understand it, donāt even realize that itās a small thing in a much bigger scale problem. When Blizzard DOES do something they care about, they will wish they spoke up.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak outā
Because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak outā
Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak outā
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for meāand there was no one left to speak for me.
yea yea that quote is very dramatic, but very famous. It just means people should care about what is happening around them because eventually it could happen to them.
Thatās the case with everyone who defends Blizz and tells others to āsuck it up, itās just a little change.ā They donāt see - or choose not to see - the bigger picture being created by all these ālittleā changes.
Itās not tinfoil hat to be able to see trends.
Is this issue still an issue? I donāt understand why. I was totally against this change until I learned the facts. If you grinded the rep you get the tokens/gems w/e FREE on all your alts.
I get the design paradigm argumentā¦ last xpacās grind is this xpacās new featureā¦ but this change is such an improvement from the current system imho.
Itās a sideways redesign at best in itās current state, and thatās giving it maximum credit by ignoring the million other issues that are not a direct product of the change.
Can you tell me how this is the same thing? If I am losing something I have now, and you are not giving me the exact same thing back, I am still gonna complain.
Isnāt the gemmy thingy re-useable by your alts? Free water walking whenever you want it?
No. Use it once and its gone
Have to go buy more if you ever change
This is the real kick in the nads here. They will put flying on this system. Then every time I want to change between flying and water walking then it will be a gold charge for something I have already earned (with flying many, many times over). This is to get people to either buy gold or spend time in game farming. A pure cash grab. Activision sucks the life out of everything it touches.
Did you learn all of the facts? Like as of right now, you can have all 3 abilities with a Strider and profession consumables? Now after this change, the only choice to make is which one of the 3 abilities do you want more?
Itās another Blizzard snatch and grab with a bone (any mount can have something resembling water walking) until the system no longer suits THEM.
Nah, I might just switch to my DK when I play and go Blood for world content. In addition to being able to solo any world mob, I get:
- Water walking - path of frost
- No Daze - tank
- I can add the glider in the mount equipment box.
No need to buy anything and I get all the perks in 1 character at the same time.
Note to self - level DK
Sure, but with this change are you sure you will still have anti-daze as a tank? As of right now, I trust Ion and team about as much as the MSM.
But if it stays the way it is, there will be no shortage of tanks
oh. I donāt like this then. The people who grinded out the rep should NOT lose ANYTHING. It needs to be status quo or NO.
The simplest solution is leave the water walking mounts alone and add the functionality on all non water walking mounts. I donāt understand why Blizz doesnāt do this. Such a simple compromise and they wouldnāt even need to rename the water strider to something else. Cause they canāt leave the water strider name LOL.
I donāt understand this design at all. It certainly is not for our benefit or our fun.
Blizzard could have made it a mount-by-mount system so you can choose one or more waterwalkers, parachutes, antidaze, etc. That would have been real choice. The water strider would not have needed a nerf but if they still felt that way they could have given 1 free ww equip and people could have socketed that into the strider.
The fact that it is a brand new system being rolled out with such a pitiful variety of mount gears is insulting. People have made lists of other types of gears like high jump, gathering/interact, and so forth. What is this? Minimal effort?? If the system is barely fleshed out then donāt release it until it is ready and polished.
I know we all hate on WoD (for valid reasons) but remember Aviannaās feather? It really softened the blow and made me less miserable before flying was released. We need that. Either give us a new ārocket to the sky + glide foreverā toy or make THAT a mount gear. Hell even legion had the Emerald Wind and the Roc feather kite. Iāve been making due with Glider kits and the DMF canon but that is no excuseā¦
Iām sad that Blizzard is removing water walking on a mount that is inspired by bugs who walk on water.
You knowā¦ Blizz actually created this problem by gating flying. Cause when you can fly over the waterā¦ you donāt need water walking.
How often do you ever see the water strider where flying is allowed? Never.
You would think as a company, youād rather have your finger on the pulse of the community instead of a boot on their neck.
