How dumb do the designers and developers have to be, that they couldn’t have figured out it “could” be a problem before something is implemented? A HUGE feature, like character flight? They somehow glossed over the problems, without ONE person saying “hey, we might regret allowing the players this ability”?
I totally get that sometimes things need to be tweaked, but this has OBVIOUSLY been blizzard’s oversight for MANY abilities. And as people have said over and over again, ww has been around much LONGER than the strider has. The only thing the strider does differently, is to enable us to scoot along faster than our characters can run.
The strider is years-old too. And you’re calling it “a horrible design direction”?
What on earth for? Was that comment based on the fact that YOU don’t like this mount, or do you just feel that a ww, bouncy little bug is overpowered?
I don’t understand the thought of a water strider being a horrible design, as opposed to creating a huge, clunky ship mount, that can’t even float on water.
I’ll say it’s bad. It’s like a person giving you a piece of cake ,you start eating it and enjoying it,then he come back takes it away when you’re half way through it.He tells you now you have to pay for it in order to finish it.
Bad pr and bad practice doesn’t make a good game nor a good precedent.
Doing that would significantly increase the permanent data storage needed for each character. And gives us agency that blizzard clearly wants to remove.
How we want them to fix this is pointless until they see and agree on why we want it addressed. And they obviously don’t.
Their own agenda comes first, even if they lose more subscribers over this. I guess they feel they still have too many.
Here something ,if people didn’t like the water strider for it’s appearance .Why didn’t Blizzard be inventive and make a magic lotus leaf that can float on water using magic?
Use the minds imagination ,you can do this Blizzard.
Didn’t need more than the first quote… The ironic self-reference is inherent in his “people need to stop complaining about the dumbest things” … Because what’s dumber than complaining about people complaining?
Funny how many of these “mistakes” date back to when WoW was a much better game.
Maybe the real mistake is a dev team that doesn’t know how to keep people playing aside from building obstacle courses between the players and the content they want to do?
people hating the Pandaren themes of warmheartedness, don’t hurry and enjoy life and
people hating Water striders?
I began playing in Cata because I heard about the new expansion promised, and was eager to try it. Pandaria surpassed all my hopes and I still go back there to relax. I have more farms than I can count.
Despite getting flight there in the first week from “just playing the game” and spending a little gold, I spent more voluntary time on foot there than anywhere else; there was always so much to interact with and so much to explore. There was no need to forcibly confine players to the ground as there were so many good reasons to be there, including Nat’s fishing quests, the hand-in fish and the still fishable rare fish pets.
I count myself lucky I played WoW in those days, when producing a great MMO was an art-form.
And Ion should count himself lucky WoW used to be such a great game, because it people had not grown so fond of the game in the past there would be far fewer putting up with this crap now.
This change can not be done. The water strider must stay as it is. Or my cat who loves listening to it splash as it walks and loves staring at it’s antenna and glowing rear end will become very upset.
You don’t want to deal with Skittles when she is upset… she can and has used instant transmission to warp behind me and get at my legs. Trust me it’s best you do not argo her.
Actually I can think of a better solution but repeating it here would likely earn me a forum vacation. Suffice it to say that all of this is much more of an attitudinal problem than it is a technical problem and that such attitudinal problems should likely be best resolved through the Human Resources department.
Our mistake as players is thinking the priority is to create a really fun game that we will want to play.
The reality is, the development philosophy is aimed at making a game that will maximize profits for the minimum expenditure, and open the path to highly lucrative micro-transactions, as that is the direction gaming has moved over the years. The game will have only as much content as they need to keep the gravy train rolling, and if that content can be systemized for easy re-use, so much the better.
The things we as players see as “mistakes” are simply elements of a design philosophy that’s built around the needs of investors, not players.
Whelp. They made the AQ bugs only summonable in AQ. They should/could have just made the water strider only summonable in MoP. Heck, even restricting it to whatever zones it’s in on Pandaria would have made more sense than a fishing group somehow using CRISPR to mess up all water striders.
I’m sure the new mount equipment won’t come back to haunt players or the devs…
