Water Strider Discussion

and that is why it is needed

Well. Blizzard introduced the whole “Can’t farm old raids until you’re eleven levels over the raid release level, unless you’d like one item per boss” system and that doesn’t seem bogus. Blizzard introduced the portal “fix” and I have yet to be able to find a portal to CoT that I used to use multiple times a week, so that doesn’t seem bogus.

I mean the player engagement time thing may be bogus, but they did show it as a metric they were concerned about on a shareholder call slide-deck so who knows.

In any case, Retail-Blizzard isn’t exactly putting things in the game to make the game more fun. They’re in a vicious prune cycle.

The Water Strider should be left alone, same as the Sky Golem. Leave the water boots for those that choose to use them, but don’t take away something players already put in the effort for years ago.

dps classes aren’t healers, I could make the same argument for drain mana which was also detrimental to the game

apples to oranges I don’t get repairs for free now or all indestructible armor, I do have the strider though now and it works on all my toons and alts.

So not sure your point.

Inferior benefit. We are losing our mount’s innate abilities and being sold an item for each and every one of our alts that will ‘mostly’ do the same thing and mean that we can’t ever use any other equipment without being sold the item again.

I have had lots of beef with Blizzard, especially the BfA story direction.

But complaining about getting more options that will allow us to make better use of our vast mount collections is absurd and makes me embarrassed for the player base.

this “prune” cycle has 23000 more achievement points for you to complete mate…

you mean like gear from new expansions? with that logic burning crusade would’ve never been a thing

my point from the get-go is the strider is unfair, OP, and needed the welcome nerf

Functional choice is more important to me than cosmetic choice.

We pay to make cosmetic choices in the game.

We, generally, don’t pay to swap specs, talents and pieces of equipment to change function.

How about they treat “mount equipment” like “equipment” and let us put it back in our bags for later use?

Or, Why not make the water walking ability THAT WE ALREADY PAID FOR an item in our heirlooms collection so we can switch back to WW equipment as needed?

No-no can’t do that, gotta create artificial value for the crafting professions and hope that it drives up wowtoken sales.

Sigh. “World of Weakcraft”

If they leave the strider alone like the golem and put it in place for the other mounts you prob would hear cheering.

But in effect they are trying to charge us for something we already get for free.

again how is it unfair can you still not earn it, (MMO you know you have to earn things in it, it’s part of the game.)

everyone can go get it but it’s unfair

Unfortunately, I don’t believe your goals and our goals align. I don’t think people are overly interested in making choices like that about mounts. At the very least, this isn’t like choosing talents where the choices are engaging and meaningful.

At current, I can use a potion (two different ones exist, in fact!), a glider, and a barding, to have all three buffs without ever using the Water Strider. The choice is already there, you can already do those things.

It’s even more interesting, because the only difference is that the potions and gliders and things cost money. That might turn some people off of using them, but that doesn’t mean the option doesn’t exist. In fact, if we’re discussing highly expensive items that we have to swap around all the time… then there’s less choice in the new system than we currently have.

Maybe a fifth of the time. I have 5 slots devoted to my favorite mounts, and the Water Strider is the least used of all of them. If I’m necessarily crossing water? Sure, yeah, I’ll use it.

Great swaths of the game don’t have any water to truly worry about, and I prefer my Rivendare’s Charger, or my Teldrassil Hippogryph, or my Amani Battle Bear, or my Raven Lord. Maybe some people strictly only ride the Strider, but I think we can all agree that it’s only actually benefiting them for a small percentage of the time.

The real question I have is what are you going to do about water walking potions, goblin gliders, and the leather bardings? They directly contradict the plan to limit us to a single mount utility. Is the plan to get rid of them, phase them out, or otherwise cease to be useful going forward?

and that is your prerogative, which is fine, but 40 gold is still a mediocre price
I’m not sure about your specific realm but there are mogs that go for more than I’ve ever had in gold as well

Mediocre price, perhaps, but I reject the notion of paying for what I already own. Theft of my earnings and selling back an inferior version is piling theft upon theft.

it’s unfair because the nature of the MMO isn’t tailored to mount collectors or this would be a very different game
it’s unfair because the mount gives an advantage where it shouldn’t, and when that advantage gets removed people complain with a holier than thou attitude that they should be exempt from the changes altogether
don’t assume just because I double your achievement points that I want or like to do the same content that you do
earning things take skill, unlike farming things whether time based or rng based, earning things are like getting world first or completeing 9/9M, getting rank 1 in a pvp setting

If by stating this Bornakk, I would like to ask, what will be the price of the water walking item without the needed rep if rep is needed for the low price that is currently on the PTR? Also, is this the final price that will appear on live servers? There is much talk about this 40g and I think it needs clarification.

I agree! I love my bug mount! I love jumping off cliffs into the water and how it talks to me while it is skittering across the water! Back in MoP it became a priority for me to farm it and I was the first person in my guild to get it! It makes me sad that this one set of developers continue to take the fun out of the game for zero reason. This mount wasn’t “over powered”, it just walked on water.:cry::sob:

Now, the Hivemind mount… 5 players can sneak up on you at once without you knowing about it. That is my definition over overpowered.

Heaven forbid sometime have to actually make any effort to get a useful ability ever. So unfair.
