Used? A LOT, always. While questing, M+ing or what have you, its pretty much necessary.
Cost? IDK feels crappy to have to buy this thing on THAT MANY TOONS (because some of us have a lot!) because you finally found a way around the water strider “issue”.
I’d think like 250g max would be fine, because again some people have a loooooooooooooot of toons…paying 1k or 5k per item? Thats not okay, esp when you consider people might change it out sometimes…
Yes, I agree. The two people who want to use the water strider on land with anti-daze can change it to anti-daze, but the strider should come with water walking as a default for ALL characters.
This system would be much better if it was per mount. That way you can have your water walking mount, your anti-daze mount, your free fall mount, whatever. You could even have two anti-daze mounts if you wanted. The blanket equipment application doesn’t feel like it’s giving much of anything important. With how they currently have it, I’d personally rather just keep things as they are now, pre 8.2 — it won’t bring value to me. In fact, it’s taking things away.
It honestly feels like people don’t understand. This argument about “losing” what you paid gold for or whatever is incredibly annoying. Its like if someone buys a BoE 400 (heroic IL) belt day one of BoD and then complains it will eventually get replaced in Palace. I bought a heroic IL belt. It should always be a heroic IL belt. Or whatever.
Imagine if your mounts that came from boss drops were only usable on the character that looted the item - and you had to pay gold to regain the ability to use that mount on your other toons.
This is more in line with the risk involved with setting this kind of precedent with this change.
So like how all mounts worked before MoP except there was no gold cost option. So my alt paladin was stuck with his green proto drake he got from his tank satchel for like 2 and a half years. I would gladly have paid 40g for my druid to use the mount.
Or you have one sitting in your mailbox but then find out that it has a new infobox that says, “Legacy Mount Equipment inactive” because you need the mount equipment for Patch 9.0 Battle for Subscribers
I vote that the water striders keep their water-striding ability. The current lore behind why they cannot walk on water anymore breaks my heart. I’d rather they not be able to use any equipment and retain their ability to water-stride than this. This way, people can choose to use the earned water striders if they feel like, or use another mount to cross water. The daze-preventing equipment is useless to tanks or those with certain enchants (iirc they still work), and the parachute will not see much use outside of war mode after flying is unlocked. Water walking equipment really makes it so that you can choose to use another mount that fits your character’s style without being restricted to a water strider, but not at the cost of the original water walking mount. Blizzard, please consider letting water striders continue to water-stride even if they are not able to use equipment.
I can think of a few comparisons that work better than gear because gear has always been outdated by new gear. Always.
One example is how BM hunters were able to tame exotic beasts at a very low level but in the BFA prepatch blizz chonked that back up to 65. When I logged in to level my baby hunter I couldn’t summon my Spectral Gryphon or Lightning Fox anymore. I couldn’t even put them in the cosmetic slot for pet#2 in the stable!
Something I had, something taken. I didn’t have to buy it back with gold I had to get to 65 to use it again and damn that was annoying.
Another example would be transmog. I bought item x with the assumption it goes in my collection to transmog by any character of that armor type. Suddenly a patch comes along and they lock out say all the off-set items of a class set (the ones any armor type can use but look like someone else’s class set) and you can’t use it anymore unless you buy a special item to unlock the “chameleon” feature. Or how I can currently change some weapons into another weapon type. What if they change it so if I want to mog a bow to a gun I need to buy a new item to unlock what I already could do?
The concept is something you already had that now you need to go through extra steps, extra cost, or extra anything to get back. Gear gets replaced. Flying is earned every expansion (except Cata because recycled zones) be it by gold or pathfinder and has been that way since it was added in BC which is why nobody expects flying day one in a new expansion zone (we want it faster than current but offtopic). That would be like people who already have WoD pathfinder, Legion pathfinder now have to go back and buy a flying token to unlock what they already had, especially for alts.
Except it isn’t? Mounts were literally stuck on characters. As I have said multiple times that 40g means absolutely nothing when you are dumping thousands into alts for heirlooms, bags, riding, and potions and such.
The water strider would just be the default mount again because it could water walk AND have an equipment slot.
Let’s be honest here, a negligible amount of players use that stupid bug because they like how it looks. Most players just use it for the passive water walking. No one would care about the thing otherwise except for a very small group of players who use it because of a theme or because of roleplay or something.
That is why you keep the water strider as is with no option for an equipment slot. It would be the same as the golem that people use a lot for herbing.
It also gives people a choice to use it or use the water walking slot on all of their other mounts.
