Water Strider Discussion

The only thing you can do with a ‘herb’ mount that is useful is farm herbs, whereas the water walking ability with the strider can be useful during leveling, BG’s, questing, island expeditions etc. Don’t know how you can argue that.

last I checked the Strider has not worked in BG’s for a while.

I gotta agree here - any charge to regain what we already have has been a common critique of what’s being pushed out.

You can’t use the strider in BG’s.

Someone noticed how many people are actually using the mount to get around their ridiculous terrain and dazing sooo… they take it’s effect away, sell it back through gold but have it’s function removed if you take damage thus requiring more equipment. Then you travel back over to Nat again to buy more.
In the end, you just stop using it and once again are pigeon holed into their obstacles. Yay for excessive dazing and illogical roads.
If you are a new player that hasn’t grasped the auction house yet and don’t have friends with mountains of gold, you’ll be funneled to the token if you wish to use the equipment regularly.

This really isn’t a pro - it’s just a weird side effect of the system. Definitely not something worth putting up against all of the negative feedback that’s been posted.

1 herb node (with rested XP) is worth about 10 mob kills. It’s still worth considerably more than the average mob kill without rested. Same goes for mining.

Crafting mats sell for decent amounts of gold, regardless of expansion level. Mob drops account for a pittance comparatively.

Water walking just allows for shortcuts across large bodies of water and nothing else.

In before dual seater mounts are exempted from mount equipment like the Sky Golem!

Could you please add these under the Cons:

*Sets precedent for Blizzard to remove account-wide functionality of items. Transmog and looted mounts could be restricted to only function on the character they were looted from.

*Allows for removal of water walking moving into other zones/expansions when it is currently offered across any zone/expansion.

Also to add to your post

What friends? They’ve mostly left to go play games where the devs don’t take things from players then try to make out that selling it back piecemeal is a good thing…

First, The players who earned the rep are NOT getting anything for free. We earned a mount that was able to walk on water. You are taking that ability away and giving us ONE item to give the ability you took away back therefore removing the other 2 choices from those who WORKED for the mount.

Second, you can ask the question in any sly, convoluted way you want but BLIZZARD made the mount able to be used by all my alts. If it was acceptable then why is it now such a “wrong” choice. There is no “fair” price to pay for something we have and you take away.

Finally, I use my water walking mount when I need to cross a large body of water and have used it that way since inception.

Think about it. If you earned something and have been using it for years. Then someone comes along and takes it away. You only have to pay 2000g to get it back, you would be okay with that?

I am genuinely curious where this even comes from.

Why is the water strider considered “OP”? DKs/Shaman have an ability. Also there is this: https://www.wowhead.com/item=8827/elixir-of-water-walking

Why is this honestly a problem all of a sudden? This seems like another one of those “problems” no one knew existed.

Will other mounts lose their innate abilities so we can get “more equipment”? (transmog, AH module, repair/vendor, swim speed, etc.). This absolutely undercuts the ‘value’ (certainly the effort) to acquire them.

I could sort of understand if these mounts had been removed from the game…but they are all still there.

If this was such an issue - they could just add another elixir/potion of water-walking using current xpac materials … and save the water strider … and use equipment slot for something more interesting than an ability we already have.

It frustrates me so that they are so tone deaf to a majority of the players.

After flying, you’d think they’d listen. I’m tempted to send a cookie bouquet to their main offices with the decoration on it… "IonS u c k s "

Really though, this is truly theft of time, and frankly money, if you think about it, those who got the mount sometimes spent months on it. We pay 15 bucks a month for this game… so in essence, that’s 30/60/etc for months of play.

Now, having said that… time is money friend. A token is roughly 120k gold. you need one for a month of play… if you took say three months to get the strider, then you should get 360K in gold back for time spent.

Of course this is generalizing… you do things other than fish while online… but in principle, this is what this is all about… a time/money sink.

40 gold? L M A O… I don’t think so.

Theft… that’s what this is, and to trivialize it is stupid.

Too strong of a benefit? Where have all you Blizzard folks been since you put the golem in the game? Why do you assume you can take things away from people with ease just because some new dev doesn’t like something someone else designed.

You don’t think a mobil AH is a STRONG benefit? Who decides which benefit gets taken away and which stays. Tell me why anyone should work to achieve anything anymore when the possibility of it being taken away is always there. You did away with First Aid, fine, but you also took all our achievement points. Why? Do you all think so little of our investment in your game?

None of the innate abilities on the few mounts that have them are game breaking. There are sooooooooooo many other things you all should be working on and working to improve but the go to is “take this away from them and try to make them think they aren’t losing anything”.

There’s the rub: 40g to regain an ability we’ve already had account wide is a slap in the face since we have to send it off to all characters.

Righteous has it right: give it to us as a toy that generates one of these items rather than a vendor price. While I hate the idea of being forced to use water walking equipment always on all my mounts at least I’m not also forced to be going through the hassle of mailing the equipment every time I make an alt this way.

Or, you know, just let the Strider keep its passive and make it like the Sky Golem so we have more choices for our mount equipment.

It’s people like you that miss the whole point of the discussion. Before this change, I had water walking and could use an anti-daze barding and also jump from a cliff and use a glider. Now I have one choice. Thanks to people crying about using one mount because they were too lazy to use another in a zone where water wasn’t a factor.

That’s the thing. We shouldn’t be having to re-buy something that we already have as of right now.
All toons, if you have the water strider, should be mailed the item. Either that, or give us a toy that generates the water strider equipment. All you’re doing is turning the water strider ability right now into a “prime” ability that will be economically foolish to use anything else with. Even to the point of encouraging more people to go get this rep to get the strider equipment. You’ve made a massive nerf to a single mount into a automatic undermining of the new mount equipment system. Why would anybody buy other equipment on the AH when there are alternatives to those other abilities?

I feel like this applies to esports PVP and Mythics. Blizzard feels hurt that all the comps are the same, etc etc. So in their effort to force diversity they will nerf things like the Belf aoe silence to get those belf comps out of MDI.

If people keep abusing Shadowmeld that’s the next thing they are going to nerf or take away from me. Fun times.
